The cast has been announced for the new Ghostbusters movie:

Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.

The rumor of this movie has been circulating since early August. Bill Murray — star of the original Ghostbusters movie — gave his top picks for an all-female cast: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Linda Cardellini, and Emma Stone.

It looks like Murray got 2 out of his 4 picks. A release date hasn't been set yet, but early indications suggest it'll be worth the wait in any case.

Great cast! This should be a very good movie I can't wait! What says ATS?

I'm a fanboy and movies like this where they try and resurrect an old favorite always end up disappointing. Maybe it won't suck. Maybe.

It is an excellent cast though.

Please don't suck. I reiterate...please don't suck.

Anything with Melissa McCarthey is hilarious.
& a fine actress too.

So that's a plus for such a classic franchise.

Kristen Wiig had some good comedy timing in Bridesmaids.

Haven't heard of the other 2 though.

Hopefully the script is good enough to withstand expectations.

With Melissa McCarthy, I'm sure it won't disappoint, at least not on the comedic level. I have't watched a movie she has been in yet that hasn't had me rolling with laughter.

Too late. Barf! Well, maybe next year's Twin Peaks will be something to look forward to instead. Unless David Lynch casts all mimes.

Just sad. I find these attempts to change previous meme's about as rational as trying to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Cheers - Dave

I think it's gonna SUCK! Look, we all loved Ghostbusters 1 and 2, right? There wasn't any girl Ghostbusters in those films. See? Things don't need to be changed for ANY reason. This is a stupid idea. Suppose slimer's gonna get a little girl slimer, y'know, for the kids. I don't know who the hell these actresses are and I'm probably never gonna know.

This kind of stuff pains me

Hollywood is terrible, reduced to milking old franchises instead of creating something new.

It's a good idea.
The women are funny, each in their own way.

and it's much safer
The odds of "crossing the streams" is decreased with this cast...

No talent, no originality, no creativity. That is Hollywood in a nutshell. Remakes, the same old gags, infantile jokes that cater to the low. What's scarier than Hollywood is the fact that people still buy into it and allow themselves to be distracted by such glittery nonsense.

So torn... I hate the idea of changing the Ghostbuster formula but I love Kristen Wiig.

It would be like casting Cillian Murphy as Uma's replacement in Kill Bill. Do I watch it? Do I hate it? Do I watch it, love it, then tell my friends I hate it?

I'm not affected by very many 1st-world problems but I gotta say this one has me perplexed.

I must be living in a cave or something. I have no idea who any of them are. Also, why an all female cast? Are they going to somehow tie into the original movies?

Nah.

Wiig is okay (not funny in anchorman 2, but I like her), but it's too late and no more Ramos. Leave it as is.

Also, I understand, no problem with an all female cast or female ghostbusters, but all female ghostbusters may not work. Why should it be all men or all women? The thing is the large majority of Ghostbusters fandom has been aimed at boys. Like 25/35 year old men make up most Ghostbusters fans and an all women cast will mean they make changes in the style, mood, humor and tempo. We dont want that. If you are going to do that then write a new movie under a new title. Yeah, it sucks, but thats reality. McCarthy is one of those im a witch tarot card reading psychic middle aged women (sorry ladies I know there are a few of you here), obsessesed with ghost hunters, starts her own group of less than hip imaginative ladies and stumbles into something real. There you go hollywood, ready made forgettable comedy hit With way more ppotential for original comedy compared to a Ghostbusters reboot.
All women cast is why they are going for a darker grittier tone. Women being classic horror movie victims and survivors. Not saying they are turning it into a horror movie, obviously a comedic cast, but the darker and no continuity concern me.

ALSO its no longer the 80s so for me there can be no more Ghostbusters, Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner, etc.

That's the truth. Let's think of a new franchise that is beloved and doesnt feel like rape (like saw, paranormal activity, fast and furious).

I sincerely believe computer generated graphics murderes great film making and secrease the nostalgia. The special effects have bcome the momenta I want off screen as fast as possible rather than to last forver.

Remember me and this post the second the put the new "slimer" on the screen.

The Willy Wonka disaster remake comes to mind.
Why mess with a classic movie ??
Ghostbusters has to be Dan Aykroyd and crew. It HAS to be.

No.
This Is Ghostbusters we're talin' about here and there is no way a remake, no matter who is in it, is gonna be anywhere near as good as the original.
Take a look at the lineup :
Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
VS
Bill Murray, Harold Ramas, Dan Aykroyd

NONONONONO

What gives you the idea that the movie will be good? The cast? The cast is only one piece of a movie. At the end of the day, this is Hollywood doing another cash grab by trying to resurrect an old franchise that has been out of the public's eye for a few decade. The whole, "Hey look! Nostalgia!" thing is getting old. I wouldn't bother getting excited about a movie like this until after I've seen and decided I liked it.

I had to chuckle at how you put that.
That tickled me.

Dont' destroy the classics. PLEASE!
