While I don't agree you should be ashamed for joining I do agree with the general idea of the thread.

When was the last war that was actually fought with the freedom of americans in serious threat from the enemy?

The most recent ones for sure as heck were not.

I have nothing against the men and women that join, but I won't respect them any more or less then anyone else cause they decided they wanted to join the armed forces.

We treat them as if they are above the rest of us which I do not think is right.

I wouldn't say better at all ,as a matter of fact going to war is mind mutilating experience to witness, possibly the WORST place a man could be. BETTER US than you.
UNLESS of course you figure out how to STOP our leadership or alter humanity ...

Let me know when the troops actually start working towards world peace.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA from the corporate greed that has infested the country.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA from racism.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA from lying politicians.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA the evils of materialism.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA from inequality and poverty.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA from police brutality.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending our right to privacy within the borders of the USA.
Let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom of science within the borders of the USA.
Just let me know when the troops actually start defending freedom and justice within the borders of the USA at all.

Um you are not talking about soldiers with this bs post, you are looking religion, or the justice league.

Superman is imaginary, and this supposedly perfect world you think we should live in does not niw and never will exist.

Where the hell do you come up with this bs?

The military is barred by law from enforcing anything on the american people, except in extreme need ie..marshall law.

A little thing called posse comitatus.

I try not to get my hackles up too high when I'm here but this is disgustingly flippant.

The "troops" are not a faceless mass, they are people just like us and some of our members are part of the military.

In any population of size you will have some percentage of corruption, psychopathic tendancies, etc but it is morally WRONG to call these people cannon fodder and some of the other vitriol.

I'm disappointed.

I'm fairly sure the movie "American Sniper" was made in a direct result to more people feeling the way you have. The shock and terror of 9/11 has worn off for the most part.

I've noticed that despite most domestic terrorism NOT being from Muslims, all we hear in our media is fear of Muslims.

There seems to be a concerted effort to keep us afraid from people very far away, and a people that are a very small minority in our own home.

Ask yourself why...

And it worked, people ate it up and asked for seconds.

I agree that the war banners have come down and the drums stopped beating and now everyone is taking a look around and asking the questions that should have been asked when it all went down.

I know I was caught up in the hoopla

I think you would feel differently if you had some loved ones in the Twin Towers on 9/11.

I'd be upset that we didn't/haven't gone after Saudi Arabia in some way, considering most of the alleged highjacker came from Saudi Arabia.

I'm from the UK military, but the following still applies. The military is the physical arm of domestic and foreign social and economic policy. It is a tool to be used to give the government some weight at the table.

Now while you may not see the benefits of the actions of the military with your own eyes, you will experience them at home. The prices of your goods are as a direct result of foreign policy. The freedom to trade and build a strong economy resulting in a better quality of life are based on the ability to present a strong face at the international bargaining table. The fact that you are used to a high standard of living are as a result of policies that are backed up with the threat of military action.

Take it from someone who has been sent to places without these freedoms, you couldn't even fathom the poor standard of life. I know that this is not a popular point of view for many, even within the military. We like to view our service in more enlightened ways. However the simple fact is that we do protect the freedom of the people by keeping the country strong. This also involves protecting the economic standpoint of government agencies and private companies that improve the economy of the country.

If people want them to be seen as heroes they need to emulate that which we would consider heroic.

My heroes dont kill innocent kids. . .
Killing innocents for corporate greed and occupying peoples countries isnt heroic at all.
What we need is world peace, not world war.
Start at home and clean up the mess within our own homes before we go out and dictate how others should do things.
Anyone who supports the murder of children and calls it heroic is wrong.

Exactly!!!!#

Of course not to mention, our troops being over seas keeps the fighting in other lands and not ours.

Since 911, instead of our civies being attacked, our trained militaries have been receiving the brunt of the terrorists offorts.

The military over there is a shield for over here.

Well, I'd counter that other countries with less of a "strong" foreign policy are doing OK for their citizens:

-Japan
-France
-Canada

IMO, your viewpoint is the next progression of the media bias/brainwashing that's given to people that begin to question the logic behind the endless wars we're engaged in. It's a good one too.

Wtf?

My battle buddies do not kill kids.....

I mean obvious we hust walk into a war zone and shoot every kid we see right?

We take a lot of casualties, because kids have bombs on them and our guys dont want to shoot them.

Where do you get this baby killer bs?

You are the least informed person I have ever discussed war with.

I am a vet, I know first hand.

You are a troll, that watchs too much world peace propaganda.

This world is founded and based on agression, it is survival of the fittest.

You are living in a futile imagined world.

Look around you, every single creature and plant on this entire plant lives in the real world.

The strong survive, the weak suffer what they must.

Just be glad that so many of us strong volunteered to protect you, from agressors.

Would you like the fight to be here, in your neighborhood with your kids, or would you like it to be sombody elses?

The fight will happen, this is a fact, it is a rule of all life.

There is no exception, all the way from viruses and othet microbes all the way to us.

We are all a part, we all bound by these same realities.

All those countries you named are shielded by treaty and threat of force by america and brittain....this is quite common knowledge.

There has never been a single moment since man has lived that there was not war amongst men.

Men like all other life fight, for resources, territory, safety for theirs.

Believing this is not a fact is idiocy.

Sorry this isnt imagination land, but this is reality.

Seeing how this is a fact, how do we make this work as best as possible for our people?

But go ahead, live in a fantasy world, your leaders and soldiers will make the hard choices that allow you to continue on in abject ignorance......no thanks are required.

I think the world forgets that Japan hasn't even had a standing army since they tore apart their surroundings during WWII and tested plague bombs on their own people. They're only allowed a minimal protective force.

Think Fukoshima could have went better? That might be why.

I'm a 9/11 truther who believes in aliens for crap's sake and I still support our troops, all of them all over the world who decided to stand for something they believed in, or that needed to feed their families. Even the ones in Russia and NK.

I do not support extremists or terrorists. I think the militaries the world over should have the sole purpose of maintaining a meaningful peace.

Sure there are bad people among them, but even as a majority they are NOT bad people. Don't be ignorant.

I agree, america isnt the greatest on peace, but they arent empire building like the days of old.

If the axis had their way, the entire world would be speaking german and japanese right now.

I believe the modern west to be the most stable powerful nations in world history.

There is less large scale war less often than ever before.

It has lifted the entire world out of the past into the internet era.

Even third world countries have internet in many places.
