I used to do charcoal sketches back when I was younger. I always did them in charcoal because for me it was so easy to work with.. I did some paintings but I was never as happy with my paintings as I was with what I did in charcoal.

but on the computer, I cannot seem to draw at all.. not even a little.. I cannot even make a proper circle.. lol.. the mouse never does anything I want it to..

but it seems people can manage perfectly with those tablets.. someday perhaps I try using one..

I love charcoals too! If you want to have a natural way of drawing, then graphic tablet is must have. Mouse never does what i want, it is clumsy and too much friction with strokes.
When you do change to tablet be sure that you don´t get too big one, my first was A3 and too heavy to keep on lap. A4 works fine for me

Im going to have to dabble with this.

I used to be (when in young elementary school) considered a good artist. I lost interest with it when it became too much like work, with assignments and pressure to finish pieces when the inspiration just wasn't there.

Now that I am older, i have found a little bit of talent in a broad range of artistic things. Food is a good example, but even just the simple "trash to treasure" flea market find, or "redneck engineering" as we like to call it.

I struggle to learn to use the pen tool to draw paths. Mostly because i don't tend to photoshop in a sitting position with a regular mouse (i am usually laying in bed using the touch mouse on my laptop). But being able to do sketching and then coloring...that sounds like something I would like to do.

How could you possibly get bored with her ? I'm not into big breasts, but those eyes ..................... WOW

I'd crawl over broken glass to drink her bath water, seriously.

It's the eyes, green eyes send me wild, they are my Achilles heal with women, I just go all school boyish and start dribbling like an idiot LOL.

There my secret is out

If I had even 10% of your talent I'd be one very happy guy, (With a wall full of green eyed beauties)

I sit like a Buddha and have tablet on my lap, we all find our best pose to do stuff

When using pen tool.. try next
start with point A then do point B, now instead of going same line with point C, place point C in middle of segment of A and B and keep cntrl tool down and drag point C to where you like.. then just continue, it automatically continues from point B. ( i hope i made some sense )

I've never had any artistic talent except with wood, put a piece of wood in my hands and it talks to me, I can almost hear it purr as I work it.

It isn't a job when I'm working with real wood, it's a pleasure, almost sensual experience, I can see in my minds eye what it wants me to tease out of it, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it sounds weird, but passion drives me and wood is my passion.

Bugger me I just realised how that might sound to an American LMAO, apologies to our American cousins, I meant the organic life form...........................Oh jeez I'm digging a hole here......................I'll be in the corner blushing

a digitizer/draw pad....not knowing anything about the technology puts me at a disadvantage. Not wanting to make a second purchase in the next 12 months puts me in a bad place.

I am not really good with a pencil or pen. what I am hoping to do, at least to start, is give me an ability to create the line art with a draw pad, then colorize it in photoshop where i am more comfortable. I see pricing ranging from $50 to over $1000. My normal inclination is to go for a mid range item....but the difference between top and bottom price points is so large I am at a loss for making a decision that isn't just 100% guess work.

So with that said....can you give me some input? what do you use? In your experience, what would be a solid product to give me the ability to make line drawings? Does it work in layers? Ideally i would like to be able to separate segments of a drawing into separate layers.

Hopefully the line drawing practice will give me better control and ill improve. Because it can sometimes drive me nuts to have it in my head, but not be able to find the source images I can manipulate to make the image work.

Graphic tablet is a tool, some tablets come with corel draw but you don´t need to install it, you can use any application you have in your computer. Cintiq is a display screen where you can draw into, Intuos is cheaper and there are quite bargains in amazon. I sound like a sales person now, but having using Wacom for over ten years these are very reliable and strong items ( never broke one ) and you can count that you will be able to find new pens and pentips for your wacom tablet if you loose those or need new tips. Try Amazon, i can´t give any other advice on other solutions as i have never used them.
If you choose to buy lesser known tablet, there might be issues to find new pens etc... risky. There is a saying in here " Poor can´t afford buying cheap "

All you have to do is ask....

Do you want something made for you? Or do you have something you already made and want to upload?

As far as telling you how to make one for yourself....all I can do is recommend you start by downloading photoshop or gimp, and start practicing. Gimp is free, photoshop isn't. But Gimp is a little more difficult to get to using. And neither is really intuitive unless you have some computing experience.

But if you want to go that route, we are here to help you too.
Just stake a tent and hang out, ask questions when you have them, and participate in the creative process with the rest of the folks here. Its kind of bohemian like that.

Hello, TwoRavens!

So glad you made it to the Avatar Creator thread! We are all here to help you. If you have some ideas for what you want, bring them on and one or more of us will work on something for you. You get to pick what you like, or use them all! We have great fun doing it, so bring it on... (I'm assuming here that you wanted us to help make you something from your ideas or images - is that right? If you have an image already that you want us to help turn into an avatar-sized and ready image, then that's great too!)

As bfft said (bigfatfurrytexan), all you have to do is ask. I'm waiting to see if you have some ideas first, and if I can I will.
