Not at all confirmed but here:

Gunman's headband reads, "We are your soldiers O Muhammad".

Want to add I pulled this from somewhere else, not trying to take credit for deciphering.

Again, i couldn't agree with you more! Very well said. It is looking more and more like an attention grab situation, usually when they carry out attacks it is quick and brutal, no negotiating what so ever.

Well it does look odd in the photos we have seen of the hostages wearing what looked to me like flack vests or something. I wondered if that was so that the Police do not shoot through a single hostage to the criminal? Even though I did not hear or read that they may have explosives strapped to them that would make sense since if it is a single man, why they have not just overtaken him. Oh I hope that is not right.

I know
i know many people from Sydney, i hope that it doesn't lose it's laid back attitude and atmosphere because of this, i hope our whole country doesn't.

Shana,

I hope that doesn't happen, because I sure do like the laid back, happy-go-lucky attitude of most Aussie's.

I think it's just a want to be showing support..

It could certainly be possible. I feel for those inside. I certainly hope they are released soon, but something tells me either the takers are awaiting a signal of some kind, or once they feel they have enough attention, this will reach a pinnacle NO ONE will want. I just pray I'm wrong.

I was just watching the Head Officer for NSW Police and he has said they aren't at all related to ISIS. They also said they wont be getting into the details of who the flag belongs too just yet..

I know Daily Mail isn't the greatest with news, but they're claiming the flag belongs to Al-Nasuri.

The group publicly announced its presence in Syria in a January 2012 video statement. In early April 2013, Jabhat al-Nusra pledged allegiance to al-Qa'ida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and confirmed the group has received funding and operatives from AQI.

Jabhat al Nusra, or JN's stated objectives are to remove the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and once this is achieved, to replace it with a Sunni Islamic state.

Although the group is affiliated with al-Qaeda, JN has previously not emphasised an attack Western targets or global jihad, focusing instead on the ‘near enemy’ of the Syrian state.

Jabhat al Nusra?

otherwise known as the falgg of Twheed

many groups fly this flag !

it has a significant meaning , being la illa ha ill la ALLAH (their is no god but god ) it can also be called the Shada this is the deceleration one takes when converting to Islam

this flag is common in Islam , not sure how they are trying to make the connection to Al Nusra ?

I deleted the insults to Victorians in your comment but to me, Victoria just made themselves more of a target. Coming out and saying "this doesn't happen here", right at this moment probably just got them a big tick and a "we'll see", from some other nutjob extremist. Very stupid idea, Victoria.

PS - I'm not Victorian

As soon has I heard on channel 9 that the Australian Government was to speak about the current Financial situation, I thought what a coincidence, then after reading and hearing so many speeches from various people about whats happening from police to public figures all of their speeches sound Oddly a like. That they either just copied each other word for word is some parts or its just a coincidence that the same words and same sentence structure came to mind to whom "ever's" wrote the speeches

So do i! I think that there may be some back lash for this though, there is 'groups' that operate purely out of hate for these Muslim extremists here and i have been thinking there will be another race riot like Cronulla for some time now , and us Aussies dont really tend to take any sh!t so i predict something will follow and there will be ALOT more tension after this.

I honestly can't come up with words for this. The video link is down, but I'm sure I'll find it in other news sources. Thanks for bringing this here. S&F

SkyNews is carrying it live.

Oh yeah, this is a good one. Saying the police are treating it as is "consistent with terrorism"; saying there are about 14 hostages (but the crawl underneath is saying as many as 40), and have only verified one person with a gun. So, mixed messages across the board.

ETA: Have been listening more to this and they are literally changing what they say about it with every breath. I guess there is really not enough info to have a handle on it yet.

everyone who converts to Islam takes the Shahada .... its also said every day in prayer ? ALLAH means god in Arabic its a perfect way of saying god , its a single you cant attach multiples to it .

Example : the god's

in Arabic it cant be the ALLAH's . it won't work grammatically.

Yes so far they are very reluctant to call this "terrorism", stressing that they are so far treating it as a 'criminal' issue, NOT terror related...
