I kind of find it ironic that many anti-war artists profited and continue to profit off the system that causes these wars. It's like "Oh I'll sing
against you guys and earn millions. So please keep bombing third world nations to keep my legacy up..."
Well, it's not like they could at that time print on their own many million copies of vinyl and distribute them.
Could've skipped that and just done it live...less notice and publicity though.
The beatles made their own record label for instance. But distribution was an issue.
How hypocritical though of those so called (you're saying) record labels who 'cause war to release anti-war songs when they're supposed to be
pro-war.
Great thread and awesome songs. Some I was gonna post have already been shared, so the only other one that comes to mind at the moment is
"Woodstock" which of course is named after the famous and quintessential gathering of anti-war hippies to date. Written by Joni Mitchell, it was
immortalized by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young...
Lyrics somewhat cryptic, but one obvious stanza mentions the "bomber jet planes riding shotgun in the sky, turning into butterflies above out
nation..."
I'm certain that 99.9% of you have never heard this song, or even heard of the group (that was exceptionally short-lived).
But, this is a great song, and while not exactly anti-war, it is written in the form that it's the thoughts of someone at war fighting for something
in which he does not believe, but the thought of his wife keeps him going.
