Electrons are charged particles. Charged particles are captured by magnetic fields. The Earth has a magnetic field.

Wrong and wrong if you read that article you posted it has nothing to do with what you said.
In fact I dont even think they really know for certain why the phenomena happens. . . .
Nor do they know what is the cause. . . .
What they are doing is guessing after studying thier data, they say oh it may be this or that, but no scientist has 100% certainty why this electron shield is there.

I dont think that our scientists can reproduce anything like the earths electromagnetic field, the van allen belts, or the plasmasphere. How it all works is conjecture because if it wasnt it could all be reproduced in some form or another.
I do think someday people will be able to simulate the earth as well as its various magnetic fields. When we do that we may understand more about this plasmasphere that encircles the earth. Until then its just conjecture.

In short the Earth has a nuclear engine inside it. It is thank to the continous nuclear fission of elements in the Earth's interior that replaces the heat the Earth loses keeping it nice and hot. This fission process occurs in the form of radioactive decay.
