So many silly things we do at holidays. Xmas especially.

First we enter the forest (or any big shopping center), as the big hunters we are. Then we show our might in killing a small tree.

Then drag it home to crucify it's foot!

From there we continue to humiliate the small tree, in some perverted fantasy of "decorating the tree"

Just to finish it off, we then hang our stinky socks next to it.

After a day of mindless consumerism, the small tree has a few days left, usually 3. Then its tossed out like a leper.

Merry Xmas little tree...

I think you should help your fellow man during the holiday season.. This year, after hearing how bad Bill and Hillary Clinton had it after they left the White House I thought I could save some extra cash and send them a can of soup or something... just sayin. It looks like they had a tough time. So tough in fact they are trying to get back in...

You shouln't blaspheme the big guy up north, you know. I feel I should warn you all before it's too late. His return is near. Repent your naughty deeds or face the utter darkness. He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake! Those who accept his truth and live by his example get awesome gifts but the wages of naughtiness is a lump of coal (the utter darkness). You have been warned!

Nothing, it's just intellectually insulting...

How, pray tell, is celebrating "intellectually insulting", as you so eloquently put it? Remember: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

I definitely feel that the reasons behind such festivities has been largely forgotten and kids now aren't always taught about the history behind such things which is disappointing.

I'm a bit of a Scrooge as well so bah humbug everyone

Vas is das? you mean Bad Homburg, the real home of Santa, und..don't argue.
BTW put something in the little box for the little ones who don't have OUR privilege to wonder, and knows feck all about history. No intellect needed, a better 'history' would acknowledge that we are all family..Mmm, that's a problem isn't it?

Well, there's your problem right there. It's not supposed to be intellectually stimulating in the first place.

Personally, I enjoy the Food and Drink and hanging out with friends and family. If you can't find any enjoyment in those things I'm not sure what other simple pleasures are left.

Xmas lights on shrooms is fun too if you're into that kind of thing.

All the consumerism and stuff is BS of course and really annoying, but you don't have to do any of that if you don't want, nor any of the rest of it either. So don't do it.

As much as everything sux already every other day of the year, why look for something to hate about this time of year too??

It is a celebration of life and love with your family and friends. It is the joy and excitement in a child's eyes. As for the jolly old soul...

I stopped at a convenience store to pick up an over-caffeinated super sugar beverage the other morning, and found myself staring at a 3' tall santa statue hawking clearance Halloween candy.

If I wasn't done with holidays before, I certainly am now.

I'm all for eating- and I'll probably break out the smoker and smoke a turkey this month, too... but I don't celebrate corporate sales holidays.

Enjoy the time off! That's what I do. One Thanksgiving, we met my Mother-in-Law at the Very Large Array and had a picnic and toured the facility. One of the best Thanksgivings ever!

One Christmas Eve, my sister and I walked around downtown Portland Oregon all day and we ate, had treats, listened to the crystal bells, watched a movie... We had a blast and it was very memorable.

Don't count on America's oldest traditions being gone any time soon. I just make sure I don't have to go to the store ANYTIME around Christmas and I usually avoid the celebrations as much as possible. Use your imagination and create something wonderful for YOU that doesn't have anything to do with the holidays.

Live and let live. If you don't like them, then don't participate in them.
It's a crowded planet. Learn to be more tolerant.

Well just as it was established by the old world power, it will be abolished.
You know the movie script called the bible specifically forbids the x-mas tree.
I know you people didn't think that you would have these stupid holidays forever.

Even though I see the deeper symbolism in the days, but even the symbolism equates to its destruction.

You know the movie script called the bible specifically forbids the x-mas tree.

I'm very aware that the Old Testament forbids decorating the trees.
But so what? If people want to do so then it's no one else's business.
And no one can prove that God dictated those bronze age Old Testament laws.

Live and let live. Be more tolerant of people who live differently than you do.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Do you really think that God or a higher power or whatever you call the great creator would frown upon a decorative tree in someone's home? What kind of God would that be? A tree is a part of nature's beauty and wonder. To bring a bit of that beauty and magic into the home with decorations and lights is a wonderful thing.

I just thought of something...

For those who hate Christmas and especially the ones wanting it abolished, I was wondering...Do you have any family members or friends that you are close to? Is there a deeper reason why Christmas bothers you so much?

If someone doesn't have any family members to celebrate, perhaps you could invite some friends to dinner. If you have no family or friends, perhaps spend the day volunteering and enjoying a meal at a homeless shelter/soup kitchen with people who need and deserve some love and celebrating.
