As a practise (such as my participation in ATS) I listen to right-wing talk radio for about ten minutes most days during my various commutes. I started doing it about a year ago mostly to hear what these fellows that I'd heard of say. In LA, where I live, an old liberal talk radio channel turned right a while ago so I listen to that station because it was a preset already.

I've found I can almost stomach Dennis Pragger, his arrogance is astonding but he does treat most people (even those he disagrees with) respectfully. He's intelligent and while I disagree with the vast majority of his positions, I think he truly believes in what he says.

Rush Limbaugh is a clown who parrots talking points and loves to call people names. I think the only conviction he has is to the almighty dollar and will say whatever will make him a buck.

Now to the Evil one. I don't know whether this man believes what he saids or just says it for effect.

Today 11/11/14 (in US speak) I heard the end of his show where he plays self-grandizing bits and I heard, I'm paraphasing because I felt such a terrible revulsion to what I heard:

"...we're sitting on a fortune (windfall, whatever), enough for everyone to own a nice home .... the oil we are sitting on... we have more then the Saudis...." it went on for a bit (probably shorting then I think.

The ignorance, stupidity and pure evil of what this man was saying was repulsivie. Repulsive whatever you stand on 'drill-baby-drill' policies. It shows a profound lack of thought for any thing other then today and money.

He shows a total lack of understanding of the pollution that such drilling and fracking would cause.
He lacks understanding that this are finite resources.
He lacks any care for the health and well-being of future generations or the toxic consequences to the planet.
He doesn't so the least care for anyone outside of the US (and I suspect his WE includes only white people).
And finally he thinks that money is the solution to all our problems.

I'd like to believe that this man said this for effect and that he isn't really this self-centered, stupid and evil but I don't know.

He's very clever with words and makes a lot of money.

Clever is using your intelligence and wit for personal gain and aggrandizement.

Wisdon is using intelligence and creativity to enrich the well-being of others (including all specises we share this world with).

I hope by writing this I can stave off nightmares and return to my practise.

Was this news to you? We could have built paradise by now if our culture wasn't obsessed with personal gain over public good. The economy has been failing for years due to the hoarding of corporations and the wealthy. They hoard money, resources, and power, all for no reason other than their Forbes list status games.

Oil... oil... oil.

Our dependency on oil is just too high. There are other ways to produce, and even reproduce energy. But it sounds like something else is at work. What I think the issue is that no one wants to find that better energy source in fear of losing money.

Its not jobs its money. Oil is money. Petrodollar? Pblt.

We have gone through the stone, bronze, iron, oil, atomic, and uranium age.... solar power just gets ignored because people don't even want to give it a shot. There are other means of producing energy but too many people depend on oil. Until the last drop of oil is used to power some random bum's machine to turn so e rotor over just to cut a string we will use every last atom of oil on this planet. Then we will truly be #ed. Or will we?

I often wonder if our predecessors hadn't come as far as well. Atlantis. We pride ourselves on our intellect; we are so damned smart (or so, we tell ourselves). I think we are a repeat... and destined to repeat history, and destroy ourselves. Hope not... but not looking good for the home team

Seriously...............perhaps oil is due to be replaced by something, but what about chemicals in our food? Medicine that treats the symptom without a cure, but leaves more problems than the original one?

Damn! Who to blame, who to blame......

Petroleum products replaced whale oil. Progress. Modern pharms replaced aspirin. Progress. Sometimes, progress sux.

Someday, oil will be replaced by something, but until that comes along, we have no really good alternatives. And in order to pretend we do, the government has artificially skewed the market until other fuels have become almost the same price, meaning they've made oil more expensive artificially.

Do you have any idea of all the poorer people who have suffered because they cannot afford to pay their energy bills because our betters have deemed fossil fuels to be "evil?" What about the cost in human suffering? Make no mistake, there are people suffering because they have to spend outrageous sums on gas for travel and heating ... like my own parents.

That's worse.

There may not be any replacements.

I think Mother Nature will handle oil.

When She's "Had IT", it will run dry,

And then the next mess will display itself.

"Humans" might not have as much control as many believe.

Are you referring to those people who are poor primarily due to the same archaic failed system that promotes continued use of fossil fuels and endless growth and consumption?

No it truly wasn't news, hardly as you say. I've just never heard it is such an blatantly evil (I can think of no other words) manner before.

Succinct and to the point.

I disagree with your use of the word "evil" in your thread. Surely, within the last few days we have learned the true meaning of "evil" in the politics of today's world. And, buddy, I don't just mean some fellow talking wildly on a radio station you can listen to or not. I'm referring to the actual evil actions that brought us this thing known as Obamacare.

So the "most insane, ignorant, evil thing you've ever heard" was a radio talk show host discussing that we should be free of our dependency on Middle Eastern Oil and we should keep the $$$ and jobs here in the states rather then sending them to the Middle East???

Well, I don't like Rush but I agree with him on this.

As far as 'most insane, ignorant, evil thing' being spoken, there are a lot worse things being said out there. Nancy Pelosi's 'you have to pass the bill before you can read it' comes to mind. That's a better example of insane and ignorant.

Read the post again. Another radio talking head.

I assume from you reply that you endorse the notion of money, money uber alles at the expense of our children's future and the future of the well-being of the local (forget the rest of the world) environment.

Are you truly so short sighted that you don't see the harm to people's lives and health from these massive oil and gas extractions and only see dollar signs? I suspect you'd sing a different tune when some company stared drilling or fracking near your home. Do you have any idea whatsoever the toxic chemicals that are used daily and dumped daily by these processes? But, hey - let's make a buck or two for a couple of years and enrich the wealthy some more - who does it harm.

Honestly, I don't mean to be snarky but----have you actually laid eyes on any oil wells lately? Your lines about how much pollution they produce is from the '60s. Technology HAS progressed since then and oil wells do not produce or dump pollution anymore due to the cleaner technology. I can tell you now that if someone wanted to put an oil well in my back yard they wouldn't get any argument from me because I've seen them up close and personal and they do not pollute the surrounding area.
Why should we keep sending our economic resources to foreign lands in exchange for a resource that we already possess---a resource that provides good jobs for people, tax revenue for states and the feds and income for those of us who happen to own mineral rights to that resource. You may scream all you like about Big Oil but it is not Big Oil that has been severely hurt by these policies, it was the small businesses that worked in oil extraction who were put out of business by Shrub's EPA policies and remain dormant today because the community organizer continued the policies. But most couldn't afford to just remain dormant so they were bought out by Big Oil and shut down so we would be required to purchase foreign oil. If you use any products made with oil you pay more for those products because that oil must be transported at great costs to get to the end point of distribution.
Despite what you might have been taught in school there are literally thousands of average citizens, not fabulously wealthy, greedy people, who have lost significant portions of income due to the US government deciding that it is better to buy oil from foreign interests than to use the resources available here in the US, putting people to work in the oil fields, transportation industry and yes, even those bean counters who figure up what money goes to whom, and how much to pay the government. This has been a huge slice of economy that has simply disappeared because Shrub and the rest of the family favored the Saudis over Americans.
In essence, I think it might be you who is displaying an abysmal ignorance of what oil extraction actually entails in this age. It is not the 1960s anymore, the environmental legislation of the '70s began the clean-up of the industry and was successful. Perhaps you are too young to remember what it was like in those days but I remember quite well and, simply put---there is NO COMPARISON today to the methods of yesteryear. You can believe what you were told, or you can simply go to an oil well and take a look.
Perhaps you enjoy the thought of the foreign interests getting richer by the day while Americans struggle but I'm disturbed about that issue. The use of fossil fuels can't be stopped with magical thinking. If you are truly convinced that extraction of same will "ruin" the world for future generation, you need to be the leader and stop using ANYTHING---yes ANYTHING---made that uses fossil fuels in production or delivery.

See---that just doesn't work does it? You can't even make a phone call without using fossil fuels or make a post on the forum because your machines are made with plastic and use electricity---which are made from fossil fuels.

something your missing is the fact we already are drilling and fracking up those resources, what he means by we are sitting on it is not whats beneath the earth not yet recovered, he is actually referring to the fact that all of the oil we drill goes into storage, we reserve it, we literally are sitting on it, thats what he's talking about,

the US has a strategy with its oil consumption, that is to store and not sell everything acquired on homeland soil, and import all oil, the purpose is so the other countries run out of oil supplies first, then when all countries run dry, we then tap into our reserve of oil that we have been sitting on, using it to buy us more time to find the alternative to oil.

thats the oil he is talking about us sitting on. we already are drilling it.

Greed doesn't have a conscience nor a political affiliation. It is a disease that effects, seemingly, most people who get near enough the brass ring to actually grab it. Once in hand they will just become more and more hypnotized by their wealth that they cease being human and become some thing else entirely.

The greatest con job of all time is that our modern oligarchy has convinced the poor to fear the middle class and the middle class to demonize the poor. What was that famous saying about being able to hire one half of the working class to kill the other half???
