Telling somebody that there personal experience is nonsense.. is nonsense.

It was just as much non-sense when LostInAmerica did it too though, right? Therefore, your point is moot.

Of course it changes how the brain works. Every pot headed stoner friend of mine who didn't give it up after their teenage years and pounds joints all day is a little dull if ya catch my drift. Anything used in excess will have adverse impacts, pot is no different.

True, but does that mean that it needs to be illegal? Should people be imprisoned for it?

I think the punishment doesn't fit the crime in this case. Even calling it a crime i feel stupid.

Smoking marijuana should not be a crime. Growing it should not be a crime. If i can legally get drunk i should legally be able to get high. Simple as that. There is no person on earth who has ever smoked weed and drank alcohol who would tell you that weed is more dangerous. Alcohol is horrible for you. A large portion of people in prison for violent crimes were drunk when they did what they did. I doubt that could be said for being high off marijuana.

I am so sick of this marijuana bashing. Who cares? Its all BS and hype to keep criminals rich, the government justified and us under wraps.

I smoke about as much as I drink. I dont think Im dumb or different. I have done so for about 2 decades.
I am not a pot head like I am not an alcoholic.

Its BETTER than beer healthwise. Better than wine. Its like anything else.

Just yesterday I worked out way too much and was hurting. Had some and I am golden today.

It has so many more benefits than detriments.

Hi guys,

Why make this a rational fight?

They've studied marijuana and they don't have all the facts in.

So, you can't use it until the government studies those who have used it against their better judgements - and then of course there is tax bias - they make money from cigarrettes - not marijuana, not yet at least.

Yet people who didn't have all the rationale in, studied the use of wheels and decided to use them on carts - it's only recent that we've had so many sciences that point to "why" wheels are better than squares.

I'm sure if you ask the majority of people who have used marijuana, that their reasons are different and they point to different results as reasons for their continued optimism. That applies to alcohol use and tobacco too!

I don't see how this is going to get resolved.... except that a lot of people use marijuana, in spite of the government's inability to "get all the facts in".

Oops, missed the earlier post.

Just giving you a heads up, that is called selective bias you are employing when you stereotype pot users.

The argument that weed should remain illegal cause people who use it 3 times a day for ten years MAY have some changes in brain structure that may or may not relate to changes in brain function is specious to say the least. What kind of brain changes do you think you'd find in someone who drank 3 times a day for ten years? But I don't see anyone attempting to criminalize alcohol.

Exactly. Even though alcohol-related deaths are rampant; overdose resulting in alcohol poisoning, massive liver (and other organ) damage, fatal mishaps due to being cognitively impaired, and of course people who drive while intoxicated and take the lives of themselves and other people...it is still perfectly legal. And alcohol actually does kill brain cells and causes long-term impairment, even after the consumption of it has ceased. If they were to replace the ganja in the study with alcohol...or hey, do a comparison study, even better...the results wouldn't be so readily available to the public. Because they'd have to admit that they've been legalizing the wrong thing all this time.

Someone made a smartass comment earlier about someone giving marijuana to their children if it's supposedly safe, and it kind of made me chuckle. If I were to be required to give a mind-altering substance to my kids and the choices were either alcohol or weed, there would be no contest. An herb that grows in nature and contains no additives or chemicals or processing versus distilled, processed, mass-produced liquid ethanol, hmmm....yeah I'm pretty sure I'd opt for the plant. But we're not really talking about it from the standpoint of consumption by children, so that was a silly attempt at a jibe in the first place.

Whoa whoa! This article has to be propaganda. Marijuana is supposedly completely harmless and does more good than harm, cures cancer, makes people smarter, improves life in every way..etc?

/sarcasm

You know what, you're dead right! What a terrible terrible affliction! This surely proves without a doubt that cannabis IS thee most evil drug there can be and that it drives people into a stupa and makes them rape your mum and then they all die!

Wait what? No recorded deaths? No mention of madness? Actually seems like a totally benign non issue even for HEAVY users... Erm... Hmmmm...

No you're still dead right! People who take this evil drug or produce it and sell it should be locked in a cage for life! Or even longer maybe! To save them from the erm... Oh I dunno but you're right!

People can bitch and argue all they want. What I DO know is that I've been drunk and/or stoned many times. My personal experience is, there isn't enough fingers and toes to count how many morning I woke up still drunk and thinking to myself, "My God, I can't believe I did that last night, I could have been killed!." and than spend the next 24hrs recovering from a hangover. In my years of partaking of the latter, I have NEVER once felt that sense of regret nor the physical pain of severe dehydration.

I don't need a PhD, website or government to tell me #. I have critical thinking and personal experience and doing just fine.

You guys remember the film supersize me or whatever it was called, where the guy ate mcdonalds for a month... Can you imagine if they did a study of people who ate mcdonalds 3 times a day for 10 years... It would be pretty hard to do I reckon as most would probably be dead in that time or would need air lifting to the study XD

Ban mcdonalds and infact all fatty foods and if anyone is caught selling or eating them lock em in prison! Oh sugar too! And salt probably (even though our bodies need it but what the hell people abuse it so... Maybe rations for salt).

I honestly can't believe there is still a debate about this! ugh just ugh!

Sounds like Marijuana use defrags the mind, just like on a PC when you defrag, helps it run faster.

Yes, but you do not want to , or need to defrag PC with SSD Harddrive, it does nothing but destroy it.

Every kid I have seen that smoked a lot of marijuana in youth, seemed to have a far harder and longer time adjusting to adult life........

Lol damn straight! But hey I like a drink too but I've certainly learned to take it more moderately the older I've become... Btw did you see the study they did about drinking and smoking at the same time? XD

The conclusion, alcohol makes your body take in more thc and thus you get more stoned lol

Everyone that is anti canabis, do me a favour, ask a taxi driver or bus driver next time you see one... Which would you prefer as a customer if you had to choose, someone really really drunk or someone really really stoned... Just ask them...

You know why that is? Cos those kids learned real early that this "life" is a bag of garbage and you're actually not living at all but you're actually a slave to the system! Cattle and nothing more! And that pretty much everything you've been told is BS... I agree, learning this so young kinda knocks the wind out of you some! But I'm still glad I know...

It is no sign of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

Just wanted to add an interesting self observaton.
I have been a regular daily smoker as well as cigarette smoker for 20 years. My brother has been a cigarette smoker for the same ammount of time. We are both pack-a-day smokers. His mj intake has not been nearly as frequent as mine, he took the path of alcohol use. I do not drink. Two things you will notice immediately are that he is overweight and has horrible lung function. Coughing and hacking contantly. I have visited him in the hospital with pancreatitis at 30. I am in an odd group where I run, bike, exercise, freedive and practice multiple martial arts and do more than most non smokers, and certainly more than your typical cig smoker.

I would love to see just one unbiased study about lung function of smokers and the effects of mj on it.
When I smoke cigs and don't have any mj, my lungs completely clog up with phlegm. I really want a study of the effects of mj vapor in a patient diagnosed with lung cancer pertaining to the cancer cells reaction. Also, long periods of stopping while I have been smoking give me the duh feeling that anti mmj people claim mj causes. This may be a result of changing your brain from its normal routine, but I would be interested to see this in an mri.

A person should not be incarerated or taken their right to happiness away in the form of permanent public records regardless of your opinion of said material. A person should only be punished for their actions when they hurt or take from others. We are breeding criminals for the cyclic trap of money known as the court system.

Eh, it's not safe to mix and I couldn't responsibly condone it. I think if your drunk first and smoke gives a different effect than smoking first then drinking. I'd even go out on a limb and suggest it is safer to smoke first.

Being drunk then smoking will likely intensively the drunken stupor up to and including passed out drunk. I certainly wouldn't recommend something like this, almost certain to kill someone or yourself especially driving a motor vehicle.

Brilliant analogy.

As to the article, I find the idea of being born with a smaller frontal lobe leading to the unconscious act of seeking out a way to counter it, truly amazing.
Considering weed naturally grows in the earth & needs no synthetic adjustments to have this effect on the brain only further proof in its positive use.

I wonder what else our brains might unconsciously seek out in order to compensate or balance itself in various ways.

What I would like to see is the long-term study of the most popular pharmaceuticals being pumped into young brains to control their behavior. I was recently in a conversation with a third grade teacher who has a class of 20 children. In that class she has 12 children who are on brain-altering chemicals that have never been tested in children under 12 years old. When she did a bit of research on what to expect from students being given these powerful brain-altering drugs, she found that they are all designed for adults whose brains have reached full development. When she went to school administrators and voiced some concern about these children being given adult drugs she was told, "Doctors know what is best." Being from a generation that was told Thalidomide was NOT the source of malformed limbs in newborns, she was understandably upset with the response. When she attempted to pursue this, the administration told her in no uncertain terms to keep her mouth shut or she would find herself without a job.
To me, all the brouhaha about marijuana use is just a deflection while they feed our children things far more poisonous to make them little robots to serve the causes of Big Pharma and Big Government. Fluoride in the water was just the beginning of the process.

There was no talk of being drunk in the study, it was merely that people that had alcohol in their system also had higher levels of THC, alcohol could be 1 beer, 2 or whatever... Personally from experience I can and have done it both ways, got drunk then smoked and visa versa, doesn't mean I'm supa dupa just my experience...

I have however seen people that haven't smoked before try some while drunk and then be sick very shortly after and blame it on canabis, it's just they had no tolerance and the alcohol amplified the canabis so made it worse for them.

These days I rarely binge on either, if I am to drink I'll have 4 beers of an evening maybe. But in the past I've been known to drink an entire bottle of JD and smoke throughout and be last man standing XD I've smoked since 14 years old and so I have a high tolerance. I have had fun with it and thoroughly abused my body in the process lol... I'm still sane though... Kinda 0.o

It's not about condoning it though, just my experience, it is what it is. For me from what I have seen and experienced the study made a lot of sense.

Bravo, well said! Our brain is still a mystery, and we got people telling us whats good and bad for it (our brains).

I have never met a person who lived to be a thousand years of age, but I bet he would be the only one qualified to know whats good or bad for yah, with untainted experience of course. Otherwise, live and let live.
