So I cant believe how wrong I was. There is PLENTY out there. Following some of the suggestions here I cam across a HUGE list I am now working on.

I figured I´d post reviews of the things I have seen recently.

"Dark Metropolis". Production quality is high mid end. Nothing visually offensive and some sets and props and costume design are damn cool. Its a flipped version of "Metropolis" but with an original and well written take on the story that reinvents it enough to be its own story as well as making you want more at the end. Its a combination of Dune meets planet of the apes. A must watch. Not worth owning a copy of though.

"Maze Runner". Excellent production quality, Great story, OK-ish writing. Set, effects, and characters are excellent. Worth owning a copy of.

"Helldriver ", stay away. So bad its insulting and awful. Cant un watch. Stay away.

Thank you for the suggestions. Even if I have seen some of them, I forgot about them enough to enjoy another sitting. You guys have good taste in sci-fi.

One I have already seen that I think is worth a watch is "The machine". Newer film, great production, good actors, good story well written. Worth a watch. Not worth keeping a copy of.

One anime series I think people should watch is Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Its the best of the franchise IMO.

Hey all.

I thought I would share the last movie I saw from my new list.

"Capricorn One."

Its a cool conspiracy theory oriented movie from the 70s. It must have been a major project since the production is just awesome even for a dated movie like this. For all you moon landing hoax lovers check this out. It will be right down your alley. Its not heavy sci fi, but it is about science fiction none the less. I would say its a conspiracy movie with a science backdrop.

Its a must see and definitely worth owning a copy of.

Here's one I'm not sure many people know about.

Alternative 3

World ecological collapse; the next ice-age has already begun! Lucky for us, governments know what to do. Unfortunately it's a conspiracy to end all conspiracies. Vanishing scientists, dubious space missions, and a freak accident which kills the courier of a tape containing a secret radio message from an unmanned Mars probe - holds the key. Ruthless investigative reporters uncover the ominous master plan.

I can't recall if I enjoyed it or not but thought I would throw it out there. There are some people who believe some of the footage really is from a secret Mars mission. Idk about that, but it sounds right up the ATS alley either way.

If you're up for a heaping helping of 80's cheese, there is 'Hell Comes to Frogtown.'
I actually enjoyed this film. It's like roadkill...ugly, but you still stare at it.

So I watched "Dead air" and "Snowpiercer" as was suggested.

Snowpiercer was really good. It has fantastic production, is VERY well written, and has some epic actors. Its worth owning a copy of IMO.

Dead air was a nice twist for sci-horror. It was a well written story that had unique elements to it. It was a zombie movie, but like none I had seen. I would say its a must see.

I thought another honorable mention from that post was Iron Sky. It was a funny and fun movie all around. I have a copy of this myself. Good stuff.

EDIT TO ADD:
SPOILER:
Europa Report is a great movie. It dragged on in the beginning but once things picked up...everyone died. LOL I have a copy of this too. Great taste in Sci-fi.

The Inhabited Island!! It's a subtitled Russian sci-fi flick on Hulu now (yay!) I first stumbled on it on Dailymotion and was instantly hooked. I even tracked down & bought the English-print edition of the book it was adapted from afterward. It's a shame the movie didn't get any US attention when it came out, it probably would have been a hit over here.

Also, and it's kinda cheesy, but I also liked Ender's Game. I've got the book quartet marked for purchase in the near future.

Edit: Ok, so I've totally shot my night's worth of sleep watching this movie again. It's worth noting that when I watched it here on Dailymotion, it was longer than the Hulu director's cut is. I couldn't figure out why certain scenes I distinctly remember and know well were missing. If you want to see it in full, not shortened, watch the long version on DM. The downside is the subtitles weren't that great with that one. On the upside, it has the missing scenes that leave far fewer gaps in the adapted storyline.

Hiya T,

As you've seen so much, I've thought hard and checked my IMDB ratings list for some lesser known films and TV series.

Robot and Bruce: it's a good movie in the old style whereby it's character-driven and well-acted rather than full of special effects.

Attack the Block is a small release from the UK. It's similar to '50s sci-fi as space critters crash land and start taking over. Instead of Mr and Mrs 2.4 kids, the heroes are young gangsters who are well-drawn and well-acted. Good effects, plenty of violence and a classic storyline with a modern update.

Utopia is another UK production that's almost unknown. It's a TV series with a plotline of some NWO organisation seeking to do something terrible to the world's population. The characters are flat-out awesome and, to American eyes, you'll be either amazed or appalled at the language and scenes.

Repo Men (2010), a lot of people bitched that it's a bad film and got teary-eyed for the original. If you are one of those that refused to watch it - try again. It's a good, dark dystopian sci-fi that doesn't come around much anymore.

The Fall isn't sci-fi, it's fantasy. I noticed it in my ratings list and thought you might want to give it a go? It's one of the most cinematically well-framed movies I've ever seen. Literally every frame could make a poster. The story's cool, the acting's amazing and it leaves you feeling good. It's one of those films that you can only watch once imo.

Misfits series 1, has a bunch of petty criminals being caught in a storm that gives them 'powers.' Unlike typical 'heroes,' they are all assholes and their powers aren't really that useful....not at first. The acting is superb and the scripts are so bright and clever that I'd rate it as one of the best sci-fi mini-series made. There's a story-arc but each episode tells its own story too.

PM if any interest you and I'll see about where you can find them all

A newer film, Transcendence was also pretty good as well.

Wow - just no.
Transcendence is just terrible, its criminal how bad it is with the cast they had.
I was so close to turning it off but had to keep watching, it was car crash.
Premise is great and one or two scenes ok.
But one of the worst big budget sci fi films in a long time, possibly ever

Blade Runner is also one of my favorites. I've heard rumors that a sequel is in the works.

BTW, can you name all the Replicants off the top of your head?

My favorite was Priss, however.

So I saw "Atlas Shrugged 1 ,2"

They were great movies. I think its the case that the book is going to be a thousand times better than the movie, though having not read it I can only guess.

Its a story of individualism VS the moral charge of those who use the needs of others to advance their own interests while not actually working for their goals. Its not really science fiction, though it has aspects of it.

I would recommend it. Its worth a watch and owning a copy of. Great production, excellent story and plenty of food for thought. I think it is very fitting for the world we are faced with now. Funny how people in the 60s knew the things we would be facing now, or forever really.

The title is based on a conversation in the story where the concept of Atlas, a Titan who holds the world up on his shoulders is faced with a question of what to do when more effort to hold the world up only produces more weight on his shoulders. He shrugs. What can he do?

To the world that holds ours up: what do you say to those who use false morality and force to take what is yours...Who is John Galt?

EDIT TO ADD:
Someone mentioned KPAX. That is a great story. I have nothing but good things to say about it. Its a thought provoking story that leaves you with allot to question about the sanity in blind living in a world where reality is self imposed not experienced.

ZedVSzardoz....LOL Yeah I actually liked that movie. It was one of the first I saw as a kid. It has a good story, is a little campy as was said but ultimately if youre not laughing your ass of while watching it you are delving into deeper thinking.

Aeonflux.... This was a SPECTACULAR animated series that was WAY ahead of its time. The story is incredibly well written with superb dialogue and visual thought provoking masterpieces. If you were like me growing up in the 90s, you would watch it religiously after Bevis and Butt Head. I havent seen the movie yet, though I expect it to be a pile of Hollywood caca. We will see. If you havent seen this series, please do. I cant stress enough how awesome it is and WAS for its time.

The Fall.... another mind altering story. Its really one of the best movies ever produced. Such a great story and such a cool way of story telling. If you havent seen it yet, do so. Its a must see. Its one of those movies you can watch a thousand times. Beautiful.

Red lights...... was another conspiracy theory type movie well worth a watch or 3. Its SOOO well written and the actors are stellar. I highly recommend it.

Cyborg Cop....I just saw this today. It was what I expected. If it had a bigger production I imagine it could have given Robo cop a run for the money. I hated the actor chosen for robocop....I mean the cyborg. LOL It was a good story that combined several concepts shown in other sci fi stories. There wasnt too much that was visually offensive...I think the shoulders and helmet for the cyborg cop were dumb. The rest of his costume was cool though. The story itself was cool. Its not worth a watch though if you feel like it, MEH...

Cloud Atlas...WOW, I still think about this movie and I last watched it last year. Its a convoluted yet understandable story with allot of layers. Its really good. Just watch it if you havent. Its worth owning a copy of.

Ok,

SO wow.

DEBUG,....what an EPIC movie. Words cant describe how cool this movie was. Excellent production, superb actors, incredible story, FREAKING awesome. Worth owning a copy, is a must see and is one of those stories that will stick to you.

"Aeonflux"..........I finally saw "Aeonflux" the movie. This too was everything I said about the Debug as a movie and story and much more. I have to admit I didnt know what the hell I was talking about when I said it was probably going to be a Hollywood crap fest. It had a few Hollywood style moments but overall they did not take away from its epicness. I REALLY thought it was going to be a crap fest like an "Ultraviolet" type movie. Nope. It was true to the series unlike other Hollywood disasters. Everything from the weird obsession with tongue close ups while french kissing to the general feel of it, design and tone of the original story. Aeonflux was revolutionary for its time and this was awesome in much the same way. I would say this movie sets a new standard. It is a MUST see. Worth owning a copy of too. I was an idiot to avoid it for this long. It didnt ruin anyting....I want to watch the whole series again now.

"The Darkest Hour".......ANOTHER WOW from me. This movie was flawless. I honestly dont know what to say that I didnt already say about the other two movies. It was original, well shot, the cast was perfect, the production was perfect...flawless.

I would say these three movies are SCI-FI GOLD.

I have to insist that if you havent seen them and even only just like scifi a little, that you see these movies. If you are a hard core geek or nerd, you will freak the frack out. SOO COOL.

EDIT TO ADD:
Since I am at it....if you havent seen "Ultraviolet"....DONT. Stay away, can not un watch...EVER.
I hated that movie so much I avoided all movies that even LOOKED like it. I was wrong, but not about Ultraviolet. I spit at it.

If you guys can check out "Battle for Terra" and "Titan AE". "Battle for Terra" seems a little childish but its not a dumb story. I would say its well worth owning a copy of. Very cool. "Titan AE" was OK, nothing incredible but worth a watch at least once.

Someone mentioned "The Man from Earth"....That too is a great story. Not really Sci-Fi like was said, but still a truly unique story. Its well made and the casting was perfect. I own this one myself. Very good.

Oh, and "Project Arbiter". Its a short concept clip but if you havent seen it, please do. It deserves a full major production behind it. You will agree.

I just thought I would say that the first three movies I mentioned before kept me up all night and I am not even tired. They are that good.

I really liked the Misfits series. I used to watch it all the time when I was in Spain. I LOVE the concept behind it. The characters are awesome and the casting was on point. The characters and story telling make the series. The special effects arent bad but thats not what drives people to watch it. Its a genuinely good series.

The Fall was epic. Really beautiful production.

I actually liked Repo men. I think its worth a watch or two if you have never seen it before.

I will check out the rest from your list there.

Have a good one!

That is and always will be a classic. Its style is a little dated by our standards now, but the story completely makes up for that. Its one of the greats. You know I missed a few episodes here and there. I think I will re download and watch again. I was looking for some anime I havent seen yet, but I need to finish Cowboy bebop. After that I think I will try to find a good mecha. I like those.
