I last saw them maybe seven years ago in a venue of maybe two or three hundred, it was very messy and Gibby was most unhappy with the behaviour of me and my chums and asked for us to be removed. I have no memory of this but was told by my compadres.

Without a doubt... THE worst thing I've ever heard. In case you were wondering, yes, this is legitimately how he sings.

I am sorry in advance for making your ears bleed, hopefully you can pry your face from your palms one day.

Heh..I was hanging with some dudes who were really hardcore butthole fans. They would give me a hard time about being a Dead Head and we would talk about who was the most hard core psychedelic band ever. They were like "The Dead? you got to be kidding" Well, I was fresh back from a run of shows armed with owsley's finest and they were like "yeah right" lets go see the buttholes! wtf??? Gibby beat some guy up who jumped up on stage...it was so loud that my ears were ringing for a week. bizzare movies and that dancing...girl? I have always liked them since.
from...and yes, its crap!

to

to be fair the dead were just as weird. Kind of had to be "there".

As a brit of about 40 the Dead were not really a band i heard that much when young but i got a few albums in my late teens and i probs got the wrong ones, as they were more kinda mellow country-ish stuff... nice music sure but not really what i was expecting as i was looking for something more cosmic.

heh....I have to write this up some time. Its actually very interesting how they started and how they got their reputation. Then you go get an album and your thinking you got the Conway Twitty albulm by mistake...

They essentially got their reputation early on as THE psychedelic band. They were doing all kinds of very weird stuff at the Acid Test parties in the mid 60s but it was absolutely horrible. They are even credited with inventing that "sound" but when they tried to put it on vinyl, it didn't work so well. You really had to see them live to get it I guess. It was almost like they went too far and it was like their way of staying in reality

"Mixed-Media" entertainment--this came straight out of the Acid Tests' combination of light and movie projections, strobes, tapes, rock 'n' roll, black light. "Acid rock"-- the sound of the Beatle's Sgt. Pepper Album and the high-vibrato electronic sounds of the Jefferson Airplane, the Mother's of Invention and many other groups--the mother's of it all were the Grateful Dead at the Acid Tests.

www.postertrip.com...

huh?

this might either bore you to death or put you on another planet. I go back and fourth. but notice the country twang turn into something else. maybe 10 minutes in though...

check the chick out @5:20. cosmic
