This is going to be short sweet, and cold hearted.

God damn it doctors without borders, missionaries and generally naive and dangerous people going to Africa: PLEASE DONT COME HOME.

I understand the willingness to go help people. I do. I really do. BUT can you people please stay brave and NOT COME HOME TO KILL PEOPLE! If you are willing to risk your life, then RISK YOUR LIFE. Not ours. If you get sick, stay there like you originally committed to. If you arent sick, good, KEEP "Helping" people THERE.

I dont care about a single moral consideration. I will LIVE being immoral if I must. You can die and go to heaven for your bursting hearts of good.

Its not like you are CURING people. Its not like you are doing anything but offering comfort to people that are going to die. Noble. Sure. Why come back home as if you did some great thing and now have the right to risk everyone else here. You done? All fixed? no more Ebola in Africa? What you are doing is nothing more noble than fluffing a pillow or bringing a glass of water. Dont lie to yourselves.

Dont give me that garbage either about how you are curbing the infection by helping in Africa. You could send every doctor in the world to Africa and it wouldn't change a damn thing. You have cultures there that rape virgins to cure themselves of aids. I am soooo sure your recommendations are really making a difference. Also, I dont think you have a bag of magical cures for Ebola, so dont insult our intelligence. Now is not the time for "noble adventures".

My god I have never hated missionaries or doctors without borders, but you people seem to forget that this is a FREAKING EPIDEMIC. You arent doing free plastic surgery or free heart transplants. You are giving comfort to infectious DEAD PEOPLE who are just waiting for their turn to go.

I know its cold. BUT you are even more of sociopaths to a higher degree for risking MILLIONS of people back home. You are irresponsible and sadistic to place your high morality over peoples lives at home.

Oh and while I am at it, F you Obama. Close the damn borders. That goes to all world leaders. We dont all have bunkers to go to.

The least they could do is put them in a military base in Africa for 21 days before flight. They have them there already.

Really how @#$% hard is that!

I agree completely. While I am appreciative of their efforts and applaud them for it, it does no good to go over there to fight Ebola only to turn around and bring it back with them.

There was a time not that long ago that soldiers were not allowed to come home to the US if they had VD... Now everyone can come and go without a damn being given about anyone else's safety.

Let your compassion cover those of your own country as well as those who you have gone to great lengths to aid in another country. A life is a life regardless of borders.

I can't believe these people think it's OK to just go traipsing around if they self monitor. It is NOT. What kind of jackass doesn't take the very reasonable precaution of just staying secluded for 21 days?

Why is our government being so infuriatingly dense on this issue? F-ing clearly all these precautions are not working, considering that the rate of infection is increasing (albeit slowly).

Someone needs to be put in charge of this situation and given some actual teeth.

Yeah sure. Why dont you sit calling relatives to make sure they dont get sick with a mortal disease some dumb ass doctor exposed their community to after a night out on the town immediately after coming home from fluffing pillows in Africa. (NYC doc who went bowling after feeling sick but said, "hey time to capitalize on bragging rights")

You can eat your words when more people start filling tombs over the "noble" efforts of people trying to make their resumes sound better or are just looking for adventure.

Tell me, who is the group of people that have to date most infected others in their home countries all over the globe now?
Nice way to handle an incurable EPIDEMIC.

EDIT TO ADD:
You dont know me but sure I am a coward. You sir have no idea what the hell you are talking about. When someone you know is dead you can feel like the brave little warrior when you are crying over their gave.

You should see what I will say if my family gets sick.

Self-monitoring?
Typical government plan.
I guess that's how we got our National debt.
Do what you want and the hell with everyone else.

He decided to come home and wallah, he has it. Coincidence/

I bet he came home because he feared he had been exposed and knew if he did come down with it he would be better off here.

Then he goes bowling, jogging and riding trains…

So if they are such helpers, why have they stopped helping? What was it just a tour or a working vacation? Where is the commitment?

You know who I applaud? Those that go to Africa and ARE STILL THERE. They have pretty much accepted that they will die from this. They live their ideals. Its not just all BS to them. Thats being the change. Thats being a real person.

These people who have infected every country in the world for the most part and are just going to come home and say "its so bad...but I helped". Yeah? You helped? What you cured them or its a done deal?

How about they stop acting like this is ok. How about if you go you SEE THIS THROUGH. Coming home from a FREAKING EPIDEMIC like you just went on safari isnt noble. Its irresponsible and down right criminal.

EDIT TO ADD:
This is like going to war, shooting your rifle in the air and then coming home right after on the first flight with an armed nuke and claiming you are a war hero.

Ok, mince words. Not EVERY country, just every continent.

Of all the infected countries, who has brought this epidemic from a localized area to a global scale?

EVERY CONTINENT. Every place an epidemiologist would say to stay away from.

But yeah. That makes this all ok. Not every country. No. Not yet.

If they stay there then I applaud them. If they come home then no. They just stuck their finger into a gaping wound in an operating room they walked into after going to the bathroom in my eyes.

How many of us have they killed?

Try to keep some perspective. Ebola stricken countries need outside assistance if they're ever going to get the current outbreak under control. It's not about bleeding hearts trying to score karma points by holding the hands of the dying. I'm not saying that there's not something more that can be done in terms of sequestering people before or upon return, but the last thing we need to do is discourage people from fighting Ebola in Africa.

If the rest of the world withdraws their support, it's only a matter of time before countless infected people are sneaking in under the radar, unaccounted for and worse, reluctant to seek medical attention once they do.

This sort of unnuanced thinking is how we got the super effective War on Drugs. How's that worked for us?

Continue to enjoy living in unfounded fear. To each their own, but it's quite clear to me that by "every country in the world" you mean, "the country I live in". I would suggest a broader perspective.

EDIT: I just saw the "I ain't afraid" line in your avatar. Classic.

Like I said, mince words.

But you are right. I am pissed my country which is the size of a continent has been infected all over the place.

And like I said before, when you are calling people you love with worries that their immediate community may have been infected with a mortal disease you can call others a coward for showing fear after you handle it like a pro.

This isnt like a "Iran is going to invade us" threat. This is an epidemic. You should read up a little before you call others crazy for worrying.

Maybe its because my sister is a freaking epidemiologist who studied at Cornell. Maybe its that. Maybe I know something you dont and thats why I am livid.

Drink some cola, turn on the TV and think I am crazy.

Tough guy over here is immortal and loves no one.

EDIT TO ADD:
I aint afraid. I am also not retarded.

How many have they killed? OK.....

Who has been cured?

There is a cure?

No one has been infected here? Yeah? Where are the people that have been infected? Heard anything from them? Where are they now? You know?

Like I said, when you guys are worried like me over someone you love (or your entire family) , remember what you have said here and EAT YOUR WORDS tough guys.

EDIT TO ADD:
How is the war on Aids going for them? (several decades later with MORE infections) BUT this is going to be different...ok. Sure.

They absolutely need help and if we can help... we absolutely should.

BUT - There needs to be some kind of control on how people come back and reintegrate into society without thoughts of whom they might infect if they are indeed carrying Ebola. There needs to be some sort of quarantine, or at the very least a travel restriction until their 21 days is up.

It makes no sense for someone to help treat Ebola victims one evening, then catch a plane (to anywhere else, not just the US) back the next morning like nothing ever happened. They have just left an area where they (above anybody else) have seen how it ravages it's victims and spreads. Being confident that they handled things correctly so they certainly can't be affected has not worked well for a few folks so far. Humans mess up. The people around you shouldn't get Ebola because you messed up and didn't bother to quarantine yourself.

If people are allowed to keep doing this, there won't be any help for anyone else because we will need it here if an actual outbreak does occur. I hope it doesn't, but it's almost asking for it if we can't act in any sort of preventative measure whatsoever. It's nothing short of ignorant to continue acting like nothing like this could ever happen in a "civilized country".

Nobody needs to run around freaked out and screaming, but if we keep treating this like it's nothing more than the chicken pox... Then we may wind up feeling a wee bit silly and a whole lot dead IMO.

ETA - This whole post is not directed at AD... I seemed to have went off on a tangent before I remembered I was posting to them. Sorry AD.

Well put.

I have a great deal of respect for people that go to hot zones to offer assistance. That being said, they shouldn't just come back without some strict guidelines in place.

It reminds me of people that rush to save others and end up needing to be saved as well, making the problem worse even though they were well intentioned.
