Why on earth are we seeing one of the most armed nations on earth cornered into a position where its only option is to strike back against a force that is illegally restricting its right to trade with world partners. Is US that scared of economic collapse that it would rather face nuclear war?

Children from both nations risk loosing their lives over idiotic western leaders that couldn't run a McDonalds store.

I wish for the U.S to step back and leave you all to our devices so you may critisize your own faults while benefiting from your own triumph

I wish it too. That way we can all deal with sh** we brought upon ourselves...rather than deal with sh** somebody else brought upon us.

It would only be fair.

I guess you're not American. Our nation has a severe mental illness at its core. We totally would burn the world if we lost our power and affluence. Our ruling corporate class is more addicted to money and power than anyone has ever been addicted to any traditional vice like drugs or gambling.

As I told a Russian friend of mine when we were discussing the current state of geopolitics I hope to God Putin bends over and takes it because we are the only ones who would push the button offensively.

It's a god damn shame that such a small group of people who have more wealth and power than anyone in human history are driving this nation and indeed the whole planet into the ground.

These are the end times. Anyone with half a brain knows it. Sometime in the next few years or decades we will either reach towards utopia or annihilation. The entire destiny of mankind will be decided in our lifetimes. As I keep telling kids at my work, we are going to see so many amazing technologies become commonplace in our lifetimes. I leave out the depressing and frightening part of this though,.............if we survive.

Yes, this is the Russian position, and very eloquently put.

However, is there any evidence that the West is trying to bring down Russia? There are ex Soviet nations who had a history of mistreatment by Russia who have voluntarily joined the EU and have greater opportunity to prosper.

Sovereign nations making choices by themselves. If anyone knows a Pole, then ask them whether they would have prospered by staying aligned with the East - they would laugh in your face.

Russia's problem is that they don't have anything to offer countries who they want to stay aligned to them. What they do have is autocracy and a corrupt political system whereby their president (Putin) on a modest government salary can somehow acquire a fortune of 70 billion USD, if some reports are true.

Russia cannot accept that past vassal states just don't want them! Look at Ukraine and the mess the Russian authorities have made through their inability to react constructively to Ukraine's wish to create closer ties to the more prosperous West.

Russia may try to play the "picked-on-victim" status, but actually they are just "Billy no mates". They need to move on and adapt to the world as it is and not as they want it to be.

Regards

Impressed, you guessed right I'm from Australia. Unfortunately I see these as the end times as well but feel that it may start as early as March next year. You can practically smell the stillness in time before the storm.

And there in lies the greatest danger to mankind. It is materialism not nuclear war.

Oh please..... prior to Germany turning on Russia, they had planned to rule all of Europe and more, splitting in up into spheres of control. Russia was intent on conquering and enslaving much of Europe. Nato is a response to that and those former USSR countries that gained their freedom have flocked, to a large extent, to joining NATO. Why? Russia and its empire of strict rule without freedoms. SO America, with the fall of the USSR, being the sole Superpower, could have gone on a world conquering rampage.... but didn't.

Im not sure what version of history you have read and observed, but that's exactly what America and Nato have been doing since the end of WW2. There are a plethora of third world backwater countries and their citizens who will readily testify to that in the millions.

And it has only intensified since Y2k.

Every thread just becomes the same thing. A bunch of crowds of children shouting "he's wrong. No he's wrong" over and over at each other. Every country freaking sucks because nations are just another form of tribes. We need to make humanity one big tribe. The longer we argue over which alliance bloc is the worse one the closer we get to WW3. Russia sucks. China sucks. America sucks. England sucks. Everyone sucks as long as their agenda doesn't include all of humanity.

Of course they won't change course but the parallels are interesting. Why can't we break the cycle? Instead of destroying everything by trying to take down Russia we could offer to finally let the world begin to move towards peace and cooperation. All we have to do is let go of the "America is the best" attitude. There is a reason pride is the Lord of the 7 deadly sins.

America is the best.
The d**ks that run it are the problem.

It's a great place, but not the best. This is no different than a person claiming that they are better than everyone else... "American Exceptionalism" is really arrogant.

America stands for at least some forms of freedom and if we have allies, its because they share this same desire for freedom, not for being under any country's yoke again. Ask Poland if they want back in union with Russia. Ask Latvia. Lithuania. Estonia. East Germany. The Czechs. And who has America conquered and not ultimately given back their freedom? The Philippines? Japan? Russia had walls, fences, barb wire, minefields, guard towers, guard dogs, searchlights, machine guns..... to keep people IN!

The problem is, the West and US HAVE Been conquering, couping, overthrowing democracies, installing dictators in, bombing, and so on countless countries since WWII. All facts. For example, we've overthrown democracies such as in 1950's Guatemala and installed "friendly" dictators who reigned for decades but were brutal to their people.

American foreign policy has nothing to do with freedom and democracy.

I'm sure we all know the west is far from perfect but Russia can talk. Putin is practically a dictator. They invaded Afghanistan then Georgia and now Ukraine. So they are no better. Not to mention the scale of the crimes against humanity of Stalin's USSR. Russia could join the west and stop playing this us and them mentality, but it seems to suit Putin's domestic politics. They act like the cold war is still on sometimes.

The problem is that lessons have been forgotten. In Vietnam, US got few hard fists on the face that threw it off the balance and stumbled on the ground. It's evil foreign policy was in the check for a while, although not completely. Since 1991, this EVILNESS has come out in open again. It needs another "attitude correction" and for a while the world will be peaceful and focus on the real problems like Ebola, ISIL, pollution, food shortages, global warming etc.

Well said and I was going to post something similar

This thread isn't about who has done the most evil things or which country is best, this thread is about Russias foreign minister giving a quite honest speech. Russia may not be perfect but at least they're highlighting relevent issues on global peace which is a hell of a lot more than what the U.S. is doing.

Illegal mass surveillance of pratically the entire planet, the abuse of the information garnered from that surveillance, military bases everywhere, a military budget which is astonishing, thousands of drone strikes (even by their own admission on U.S. people), questionable invasions of numerous countries etc. you can't honestly tell me that Lavrov doesn't have a point with what he's saying.

So global peace in Russia is to invade sovereign nations, then back separatists and lie to their own people.

So essentially they are no better.

Sergei Lavrov can use all the emotive language he likes but it still doesn't change the fact that Russia, as a country, is run by a dictatorship. They have an appalling human rights record and they are in no position to start dictating to proper democracies. Every single word that has come out of a Russian officials' mouth since Russia invaded Ukraine has been a fabrication of the truth. The sooner the international community cuts Russia out of their economies, diplomatic circles and also the SWIFT banking network the better.

France is good at criticizing America, get something from them. It's a bit hard to take Russia seriously on peace and human rights. Still the Russian minister has some valid points I think. Team America world police put it better I think.

Lavrov, on behalf of the Russian Federation implicitly warned that US/NATO is risking global war in embarking on its campaign to seize and dominate huge territories

Lavrov mentioned in an interview this picture from the internet:

You're moving closer to Russia and blame Russians for being close to NATO

The cold war is over. Why doesn't Russia join NATO. They were allies with the west in WW2. If you can't beat them join them. Why do they have to see the west as the enemy and vice versa it's stupid.
