This would be quite alright if it was a class that tough different religions or at least gave some backdrop and how they played a part in the making of history; but to outright just teach religion wasn't/isn't there something against that..?

What if I don't want anyone teaching my children about things that have no basis in reality? Learning 2+2 = 4 or the periodic table of elements are facts. Religion faith-based and faith is not based upon anything except one's belief and therefore has no place in public schools. Except maybe as an elective for a high school class, if the kids are interested in learning in it but introduce ALL of them, not just one.

With that said, after watching the video all I can say is this is nuts and I hope it's not true.

I don't care if it's Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism or the freaking flying spaghetti monster, as long as my child is in a public school setting, no one is to teach my child about any religion except me.

This is propaganda, regardless of how you want to slice it or dice it.

Not only was the assignment riddled with inaccuracies where it states that Christians, Jews, and all other religions worship the same “god” as Muslims, it is full of propaganda — stating that the Muslims’ god “Allah” is the “ONE and ONLY GOD.”

The assignment then goes on to paint the prophet Muhammad as the wonderful and peaceful messenger of “God” whose spiritual revelation produced Islam. They leave out the historical FACTS, however, that Muhammad was a mass murderer, terrorist, misogynist, cult leader, rapist, torturer, assassin, narcissist, and not to mention a pedophile — who married his child bride Aisha when she was just six years old.

School Assignment on Islam Left This Mother in Disbelief

Below is a the text version of the assignment the students received:

Part 1: Introducing Islam

Islam and Muslims- The name of this religion is Islam, the root of which is SILM and SALAM, which means “peace.” SALAM may also mean, greeting one another with peace. One of the beautiful names of god, is that he is the peace. It means more than that; submission to the ONE GOD, and to live in peace with the creator within oneself, with other people, and with the environment. Thus, Islam is a total system of living. A Muslim is supposed to live in peace and harmony with all these segments; hence, a Muslim is any person, anywhere in the world whose obedience, allegiance, and loyalty are to god, the LORD of the universe.

Part 3: Allah The One and the Only God

Allah is the name of the one and only god. Allah has 99 beautiful names, such as: the gracious, the merciful, the beneficent, the creator, the all-knowing, the all-wise, the lord of the universe, the first, the last, and others.

He is the creator of all human beings. He is the god for the Christians, the Jews, the Muslims, the Buddhists, the Hindus, the Atheists, and others. Muslims worship God whose name is “Allah.” They put their trust in him, and they seek his trust and his guidance.

Part 4: Muhammad

Muhammad was chosen by God to deliver his message of peace, namely Islam. He was born in 570 CE (Common Era) in Makkah, Arabia. He was trusted with the message of Islam when he was at the age of 40 years. The revelation that he received is called the Quran, while the message is called Islam.

madworldnews.com...

Under the heading, “Introducing Islam,” her teacher presented a whitewashed, lie-filled version of Islam that could have been produced by the radical Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). And if that wasn’t bad enough, the assignment compelled students to create Islamic propaganda — in the form of an “informational pamphlet “which would then be created to fit curriculum suitable for third graders, reported Inquistr.

The assignment’s “rubric” said Islam is a “religion of peace and unity”, which promotes living “in peace with the creator… with other people, and with the environment.” Not only was the assignment riddled with inaccuracies where it states that Christians, Jews, and all other religions worship the Muslim “god” “Allah”, it also stated that Allah is the “ONE and ONLY GOD,” as detailed by blogger Prissy Holly.

Yes, keep them in your protective bubble of ignorance instead of them getting a decent education from an unbiased curriculum.

Are you afraid that simply learning about a particular religion will lead them to believe in that religion? That's ridiculous...

Maybe if they taught you about Islam in school you would know that Christians Jews and Muslims worship the same Abrahamic God(Arabs are descendants of Ismael brother of Isaac)and that Allah is the Arabic word for God just like Dieu is the French word for God,just like Wende is the word for God in my native language.

No it's not. It's part of a class for kids. If you're going to demonize Islam, you have to demonize all the other religions equally. The lesson sticks to the basics, as it should. You can't cover the entire bloody, horrible history of all religions in one lesson. They're all responsible for murder and genocide.

The fact is, your quoted source starts out with a statement that immediately discredits itself when it says Christians and Muslims don't worship the same god. They do. The only people who insist otherwise are Christians and Muslims because they refuse to acknowledge it.

Religion is a personal belief and it doesn't belong in schools, especially at the elementary school level. Whether you agree with that or not is not my problem.

For the OP,
I found a source where the school claims they had curriculum concerning the top 5 major religions.

“The assignment was to cover the five major world religions: the religions included Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam,” Graham said. “In our social studies classes, we certainly study all those religions to learn how a people, group, and culture function. It helps us understand culture.”

I do agree that culture is important, and have no objection with that at all.

Honest question for the people who have a problem with this:

Do you take issue with Greek and Roman Mythology being taught in school? Or is that somehow different?

Religion is absolutely a personal belief system. Religions are also culturally relevant. It's important that young people learn about those religions so they don't grow up completely ignorant.

Learning... LEARNING... Again, there is a difference between learning about something and accepting it as your own personal belief system. Children should learn about the various religions from an unbiased source. Their belief system is their own choice.

If the US was leading the world in reading, science, mathematics etc, then I'd say, "Why not" to religious studies.

But we are graduating kids with a 3rd grade reading comprehension.

Schools aren't teaching anymore.

They are indoctrinating.

There is no place in the school system to even teach religion. And certainly not that one. If you want to take comparative religion and its offered in your school in senior years, so be it. But no where else.

They have this in social studies and I made a stink about it. They were willing to put my son in a special class and still get credits. But rather than do this, wanted to pay attention to what his texts are talking about, as I feel thats more important and also people should be speaking up in droves.

I don't know if this is the same school or related or not but I read this earlier:
www.huffingtonpost.com...

The school's principal, Brandon Graham, responded in his own Facebook post over the weekend, saying he wanted to correct "inaccurate information" about the assignment.

“While our high schoolers do study religions, the content is NOT presented to elementary students or used to proselytize in any way,” Graham wrote. “Furthermore, we *do indeed* teach Christianity along with other world religions.”

“The assignment was to cover the five major world religions: The religions included Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam,” Graham said. “In our social studies classes, we certainly study all those religions to learn how a people, group and culture function. I'm not a fan of any religion in school, but it seems to me like a balanced approach to cultures around the world by studying the 5 biggest religions in the world.

And to the poster earlier talking about the different gods for each of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, they are all Abrahamic religions which means they all worship the god of Abraham; which is 100% true except for Christians which have a kind of end around by worshiping Jesus and/or the Holy Trinity.

The question is: Why?

I'm tracking with Buster's comments on teaching about WWII. I can't disagree with TinfoilTP on pulling kids out of school to make a point.

But really ... what in the Hell is going on in school these days? And, don't get me started again on Michael 0bama's school lunch starvation diet. Sounds more like a North Korean teaching methodology to me.

Just like the MSM, education and the control of knowledge is nothing but a mind control technique.

Today's 'educational' system is being used to dumb down kids into unthinking conformists and zombies who won't ask any questions.

“Education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” ~ Joseph Stalin

"I begin with the young." ~ Adolf Hitler

"He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future." ~ Adolf Hitler

"...the academic meltdown in our public education system is intentional. It asserts that change agents have been working at the Education Department to change curriculum, not to improve teaching but to promote a socialist agenda. Their role is to create schools which will mold obedient citizens who no longer have the knowledge and skills to improve their lot in life, but are dependent on government/multi-national companies' guidance to survive. The system will create imprisoned citizens that will be managed from cradle to grave to serve the needs of the state's managed economy."

Deliberate Dumbing Down of America

As another man without a high school diploma, I discovered many years ago that the "educated" class is generally not educated at all, it is mis-educated. The whole purpose of American (perhaps all "western") "higher education" is obviously to bring minds into lock step with "The Agenda." As a general rule, the less official American education a person has been exposed to, the greater his/her ration of common sense.

"Education" is Spiritual Suicide

Only when all children in public, private and home schools are robotized-and believe as one-will World Government be acceptable to citizens and able to be implemented without firing a shot. The attractive-sounding "choice" proposals will enable the globalist elite to achieve their goal: the robotization (brainwashing) of all Americans in order to gain their acceptance of lifelong education and workforce training-part of the world management system to achieve a new global feudalism.

A 100 yr. Silent War on Education

Never mind that this country's education system is already tailor-made to spread misinformation, entrench mythologies, and promote American exceptionalism to our young children. American history, as taught in schools, is generally nonsense meant to instill and preserve a sense of City-on-a-Hill nationalism, along with healthy doses of tall-tale founding myths, gung-ho militarism, and ethnic cleansing justification in the form of righteous Manifest Destiny. As James W. Loewen explains in his 1995 book Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong, textbooks used to teach our children "leave out anything that might reflect badly upon our national character."

Who's Really Brainwashing Our Children

A question to all who support this:

Would you support atheism, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Satanism, etc being taught in public schools?

Many have answered that it would be alright if they taught other religions too.

But I want to see exactly how many don't have a problem with it, but might have a problem with other faiths/belief systems being taught.

Maybe if they taught you about Islam in school you would know that Christians Jews and Muslims worship the same Abrahamic God...

Not buyin' it...

#1 Rule of Propaganda: always believe the opposite...

Allah was a pagan name for a peculiar pagan Arabian deity in pre-Islamic times.

Islam is paganism in monotheistic wrapping paper.

This is a perfect example of WHY studying Religion in search of truth is such a dilemma.

Religion MUST lie in order to keep the real agenda hidden.

The word to ascend used in Isaiah 14 when Lucifer says “I will ascend into heaven…I will be like the most High”, is in Hebrew “Allah” Strong’s #5927. Allah translates “to ascend.” Allah is the “fallen one” who wants to ascend into heaven. Allah is another title for Satan, the fallen one. The correct pronunciation of “elohim” is “allah-hay’m.” Allah means gods, powers, or angels. In this sense, fallen angels.

Makes sense why the Muslims who worship him behead infidels instead of loving their enemies as Christ taught. Islam is to Persian mythology (astrology) what Catholicism is to Babylonian paganism. That’s why the Islamic symbol is the star and the moon. Both occult idols. One for the “goddess” Diana and the other for the “god” Lucifer, the male and female occult deities. The Muslims worship an idol in the shape of a female vagina (fertility symbol) in the form of the Kabba Stone in Mecca. Islam is idolatrous and pagan.

Interestingly, not many Muslims want to accept that Allah was already being worshiped at the Ka’ba in Mecca by Arab pagans before Muhammad came. Some Muslims become angry when they are confronted with this fact. But history is not on their side. Pre-Islamic literature has proved this.” (Who Is This Allah?, G. J. O. Moshay, 1994, p 138)

“But history establishes beyond the shadow of doubt that even the pagan Arabs, before Muhammad’s time, knew their chief god by the name of Allah and even, in a sense, proclaimed his unity…Among the pagan Arabs this term denoted the chief god of their pantheon, the Kaaba, with its three hundred and sixty idols.”

In fact, he did not at first intend to establish a new religion, but rather to reform the belief in Allah which already existed, and to show what this belief truly signified and rightfully demanded.

There is absolutely no question that Allah was worshipped by the pagan Arabs as one of many polytheistic gods. Allah was worshipped in the Kabah at Mecca before Muhammad was born. Muhammad merely proclaimed a god the Meccans were already familiar with. The pagan Arabs never accused Muhammad of preaching a different Allah than the one they already worshiped.

The pagan origin of the word "Allah"

The Quran Confesses Allah Was a Pagan God before Islam

I haven't read the whole thread yet BUT...

I have no problem with children learning about all the different cultures and religions around the world BUT then they need to not freak out as much when it comes time to learn and teach about Christianity. Just because most of us in the US already know about it, doesn't mean that everyone does and there's no need to teach about it right alongside the rest of it.

If the Christians can't pick and choose, then nobody should be able to pick and choose. It needs to be balanced across the board.

And this is coming from one who believes in God and doesn't really think that teachers should be teaching my daughter about how she should practice our religion either. If they screw that up as good as they do other things... No thank you.

I'm going with what all of the non believers always say... All or nothing.

My problem isn't with whether or not faiths/belief systems are being taught in school...

My concern is with teaching things to kids that are deliberate lies.

If a belief system is based on facts and truth, no problem.

But when it comes to cults and counterfeit religions, just NO...

Religion is probably the most powerful form of mind control there is.

Same sentiments as you, but I'm going with the strictly "None" option. People can't help but express their biases, for or against. Kids don't need that.

This is another frikkin wedge driven into the family values system. I want the government OUT of the family.

Why are they trying to teach religion in school? Why not teach the religion of Klingons or the all about the Flying Spaghetti Monster? I don't understand. Go to school and learn FACTS, not go to learn doctrine or fantasy.
