I think this idea is always present in discussions of aliens and religion, but a simple and elegant truth just shifted into place in my head, and I wanted to share it with the fine folks of ATS to hear your thoughts.

(note: when I use the second person pronoun "they/them" below, I mean - with no disrespect - He/She/he/she/they/whatever is appropriate for the Being that is real to you)

As far as I can tell, just about all religions throughout human history have a common basic story: sometime in the past, a Being or Beings created us. We had direct contact and communication with them for a while, they helped us with stuff, and then they left, saying they'd be back someday. Right now they're somewhere above us. We don't have any direct contact with them at the moment, but we have faith that they'll be back when we really need their help. At some point the spit's going to hit the fan, but it's okay because they've got our backs in the end.

I know that I'm oversimplifying and generalizing, but I don't think I'm really wrong. So regardless of the specifics that each of us individually believe, it seems clear to me that we (humanity) believes in the existence of extra-terrestrial life.

What do you think? Does this rattle around in your head the way it just did mine? Or am I way off base here?

There's definitely something to the alien phenomenon, although to know for sure is a long way off and those that may have knowledge on the subject aren't too forthcoming with their ideas:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

There is of course also the UFO stories involving the airliners JAL1628 and American West 564.

Thanks -- I'm not familiar with the story from your link at all, but from a quick glance it looks fascinating. I'll look forward to watching the documentary when I have time.

And while I want and welcome evidence to consider (I agree with you, knowing for sure is a long way off), I'm really thinking about something fundamental in our shared belief system - that we all believe, in one way or another, that we have had contact with someone or ones who aren't human, and we will again some day.

while i do believe early civilizations were in contact with ETs, it doesn't necessarily prove they're here to help us.
there's plenty of reasons they may be watching us, nefarious or benevolent.

for all we know, they could be waiting until our planet is nice and ripe for the harvest.

i believe there are multiple ET races observing us, each with different agendas.

there's an endless universe of possibilities.
i'd agree and say many of us do believe.

it will be a glorious day when governments decide to disclose ET life. the consciousness of the world will shift, and finally lead to progression of the human race.

Thousands of years and thousands of gods, there is absolutely no proof of any.

Therefor my own conclusion is an extraterrestrial influence has always set the course for our species, they've just been misinterpreted, forgotten, embargoed or whatever way you choose to look at it.

Yet I have no proof for my conclusion.

Funny old 'world isn't it.

How I see it, if life exists here on Earth than that's proof enough that life would exist in the universe, especially on worlds that would be very Earth-like. I have no doubts that there are other Intelligent life forms out there, and I have no doubts that there are life forms more advanced than than what humans have on Earth.

One thing I do find interesting is how many stories from the ancients can be seen as an Extraterrestrial contact scenario. You could imagine how a civilization of the past with little understanding of advanced technology could view advanced space faring/travelling entities as gods, and their technologies as magic.

So, do I believe there is life out there? yes, there would have to be. There's an uncountable amount of planets out there in the habitable zone of their stars in this universe and many others that may be out there. It would be ignorant to think there is no life out there considering we exist here on Earth as well.

Personally I need to see something with my own eyes to believe in ET. I don't dismiss it, hell am always looking for somthing in the skys that will make me a Believer . I don't believe in god as that to me is just man's ego.

Maybe so, but why is it being hidden from us if their here to help or was,

Will live in a time of questioning everything, not good for some people.

Fair point. I was thinking that the common narrative in most religions is that they were / will be here to help us, but you're right, that is an assumption that may not be correct.

Personally I believe in my gut exactly what you said: "there are multiple ET races observing us, each with different agendas." I don't have any proof for that, of course, but I feel it in my bones.

Thanks for the reply.

It has been radio silence for a long time now, so that's totally possible.

Is it not plausible to say that there is no life out there, and the only thing out there is US, but super advanced and realized that their is no life after death. I'v always like the possibility of us beening the one's right now flying the UFO'S and coming back at different times to "check up" on us.

Their was a short film competition on ATS couple of years back. and I don't know if it won it but my friend shown me 1 of the runners and it was so good, It was a scene where a UFO had been shot down and when a couple of soldiers began to walk over to the ship and Asian man stubbles out with a U.S.A air forces badged on, I just loved it, I can't find it if I do will post it.

I can see that. I think humanity as a whole believes in something, but as individuals we all have some degree of skepticism, and I think that's a good thing. Personally I believe, but I'm always looking for something in the skies that will give me proof.

I'd say that's plausible but it doesn't feel right to me. I do enjoy the idea, and of course I can't disprove it.

The short film reminds me of the opening scene from Strange Brew

Please do post it if you find it.

Sure. Like I said, this isn't a new revelation. I love me some Ancient Aliens. It's just that the simplicity of the big picture just landed in my head and I wanted to share it.

Thanks --

It's not a matter of who, ET out there may have simply come forth through natural evolution of their own species, and potentially with the manipulation of other ET that have evolved as well.

We have to keep in mind the possibility that they don't have the same concept of religion or the same beliefs that some humans hold to. They may also be more aware and educated as to how they came into being through their sciences as well. One thing for certain, if there are countless ET races out there, than their beliefs will differ as well from individual to individual and race to race.

Well, I was deliberately not calling them "Aliens" -- in my mind, what I'm referring to as extra-terrestrial Beings could be what some of us think of as God, or they could be what some of think of as Aliens, or they could be both at the same time (or they could be neither, I suppose, but this simple truth I'm exploring here is that we all believe there's something up there.

But to answer your question -- I have no clue. I can imagine the original act of creation being done by someone or something sentient (but then who/what created them? And then who/what created the who/what that created them? And then...), or by a non-sentient crazy coincidence of chemistry and energy and things I don't understand at all.

Thanks --
