There are documented cases where a person is shot point blank range in the head where the bullet is ricocheted / deflected by the skull.

Do you think a material needs to disintegrate to be weakened by a projectile? Does a projectile need to penetrate, imbed or disintegrate to do damage? If I throw a baseball at my laptop, the baseball will just bounce off the laptop. How could the screen possibly be shattered if the baseball just bounces right off the screen? Would you care to address why you think spalling of projectiles or airframe components is "unlikely" and how you came to that conclusion?
