I want my emoticons back!

You'd have to ask SkepticOverlord that question. The mods here are all member volunteers, with an emphasis upon the member part. We are from all over the world and nowhere near to code nor the servers.

Go forward not back, half of these icons look so similar they might as well just all be the same one.

U2U the overlord. Not that it will do you any good. He already knows the emoticons are a "sore spot", and has acknowledged as much. His house. His walls. He can paint them any color he likes. But yeah, I'm with ya. Bring back the real emoticons! Enough with faux versions, already.

How can Emoticons be a universal language if there are so many different kinds of emoticans for the same expression.

I liked the old ones best. :shk: was a good one

But I guess we have to make due with what we have. I'm not going to let my disappointment get to me. I don't actually understand the emoticon philosophy well anyway, I often put the wrong emoticon in my posts. My daughter said that even...has a special meaning. Not what I was trying to express either. so even three dots can give a wrong expression to people.

Are we going to be writing with emoticons in the future? I thought we were getting more advanced, now we are returning to hieroglyphics.

Emoticons are our version of the Hitchhiker's Guide Babble fish. Emotion is universal but agreed it may be more difficult to express ourselves with just them.

That's why we need both!

The eye rolling and blue shaky head guy were the best.
The emoticons we have now are quite possibly the worst on any site I visit or have seen.
Another site I use daily has many, many emoticons and they are awesome.
This is a much smaller sports site and yet it has great old emoticons.

ETA: The one's we had on BTS were awesome too.... so much fun.
