It is interesting to see so many individuals on here assuming that these videos are faked in some way or another. The only detail that deserves or warrants skepticism is when the videos / beheadings were in fact performed.

If any of you have had the very unfortunate experience of viewing the 60min ISIL propaganda video (in HD might I add), you would surely know that this group of radicals has zero regard for human life. This isn't a religious driven desire for their sovereignty, its a lust for blood, mayhem and personal gain using religion as their crutch and purpose.

None of us can say without a doubt that there is or isn't an underlying agenda, fact. The videos though, such as the one mentioned above, does speak for itself and no innocent human being deserves to be subject to such barbarism.

I agree that something needs to be done, question is, who should do it? Unless you're the one holding the cards, and have as much credible intel as possible, you're just guessing.. and this type of threat is not won by guessing. Its a difficult decision, and way above my pay grade..

Why not fake it? I don't think ISIS made those videos anyway. But if they did, why didn't they kill Sotloff on camera then? By your logic they should have.

I wouldn't think miscreants are capable of that level of video production quality.

But like I said, could be CIA, MI6, Mossad, ect. All part of an act to outrage people so they will support more war.

Decent HD video cameras aren't that expensive — anywhere from a couple grand and up. That's one of the reasons for all these crappy found footage movies. The editing isn't anything spectacular either and certainly nothing that couldn't be done by a half-way serious amateur with a pirated copy of Adobe Premiere.

Maybe the guy who they chose to be the spokesperson is a little squeamish so they cut out and let somebody else do the deed or maybe they figured the video would violate less T&C on websites without the actual beheading and would therefore reach a larger audience. I would assume that if in fact ISIL/ISIS is behind the video, they'd consider a polished look as indicative of sophistication and legitimacy.

In any case, I'm still not understanding why it would be preferable to fake the deaths rather than actually murdering the men? That would only make sense for a group that is unwilling or unable to do real world violence and I don't see how any of the potential alternative producers meets that criteria.

How do you know they didn't cut the scene after the victim spoke, drained all his blood with a simple blood donor apparatus from any hospital easily acquired then hacked his head off? Their reasoning could be less gore equals more exposure ensuring Obama cannot ignore them or hide it from the public.

They were winning till the US air strikes decimated their ground units in over 124 strikes to date with no end in sight.
Now they are losing, everywhere militarily. They failed to take the dams, they are losing towns not gaining them to the Kurds and Iraqi's ground forces. With no battlefield mobility or artillery they don't have an edge in battle any longer. Their suicide bombers are only effective when they are sieging a town or military installation, not when they are the ones being driven back.

They don't cry out for America to send soldiers so they can kill them in these videos, they give an ultimatum to Obama by name to stop the airstrikes, and Obama symbolizes America and the will of its people to them over there.

Their only goal by making these beheadings is to stop the air strikes. Get it? They could have easily just buried these journalists in a ditch alive with the rest of their victims or shot them or beheaded them in front of the schoolboy age children in a town square somewhere but they didn't.

When this tactic doesn't work, expect them to try something even more horrendous to influence stopping the airstrikes. You can be guaranteed they will video and upload it like they always do and then the apologists will all cry fake as usual.

I have seen beheading videos from Iraq from around 10 years ago, unedited footage, head sat of the back of the victim when they were done, hands binded with blood everywhere... Then we get to today's beheading's.. Gore edited out of the video's, what seems like a backdrop worthy of Hollywood, pretty calm people being beheaded with no trace of a cut to be seen. If this is ISIS's game, they are nothing compared to who was killing people a decade ago. The people seem more like actors than anything else. You should go check some of those beheadings from all those years ago, you will see what I mean.
