Eh im not sure I agree with your approach that its just looking for boogy men, ISIS is a real threat to anyone they come into contact with, and its a very real posibility they could get in through the border........

I operate around that area quite a bit here in Texas im quite familiar with it, its porous like a sponge......

however i DO agree with you about the NSA , as far as im aware they have yet to actually thwart an attack, besides what they CLAIM to have done, with no real evidence......

NSA funding is just an excuse to keep tabs on US, not real threats.......

I also do agree that if something were to happen that it WOULD be used as an excuse implement more programs.......

What I don't understand is media reports of "1000s" of ISIS/ISIL/IS members from U.S. and Europe, supposedly they don't need visas to travel.

Okay...but then we should know exactly who they are, right? I mean, with all of the over-the-top NSA surveillance -surely they should not be able to get back into country to do any harm or should be monitored within their country?

Otherwise, fail. And give us all of our funding back.

I... This.... It's....

There's no MEAT in your speculation soup man! If you read over what's written here and think about it just a little baby bit, I think logic will whisper in your ear the answers to your malnourished hypotheticals...

Well my point originally was - How the hell can we know, after 13 years, what's a threat and what's not a threat? We have danced like monkeys each time DHS has put a quarter in the media slot - and nothing happens. So many silly or just plain baseless warnings, so many "foiled" plots" that could easily be argued as entrapment.

And now ISIS/ISIL/IS, - which seems real - yet has popped up suddenly and is this huge, shocking threat potential. So, again, I say, where was our intelligence data? Where were the red flags early on? Why did we do so much to tank Assad if this was what was in the wings? Why did we cede so much to Al Maliki if this was the lingering threat there? Why aren't regional powers taking more of an initiative to beat back ISIS/ISIL/IS?

It just feels like we're being manipulated. I'm not sure we actually are..but, perception is everything and my hink-o-meter is off the charts.

lolwut? If they know it's thousands then they know who they are and, if they don't after all the money spent for that purpose, well, then the entire thing is a house of cards.

Thank you for taking my colorful writing in stride... I understand your point, but where exactly do we start "knowing" what we're talking about? We dont really know any damn bit of it for sure...

A house of cards is right... But I have to say: there's no doubt that murderous zealots with way too much money and power are indeed amongst us. Terrorists who live in White Houses as well as caves. This is not news to you fellow ATSers I hope

i'm afraid i think ISIS/IS attacks on American AND European soil are inevitable. the doors have been open and unguarded for too long. battening down the hatches now is akin to closing the stable door AFTER the horse has bolted.

i hope not but i think so.

National pride would be hurt if America did nothing after a massive attack on ANY city.

Sure. I'm just saying I doubt the projects are real high on the list of targets. Besides, they are already a bit of a war zone. ISIS might get jacked before they have a chance to get to their target anyway.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I think ISIS is more concerned with 'fixing' Muslims who don't measure up to what ISIS considers to be proper Muslim behavior.

That being said, the US border is wide open and has been for decades. It's hard for terrorists and drug lords to pass up such an inviting opportunity. It wouldn't surprise me at all if terrorists were coming across the border into the US. But as for ISIS in particular??? I'm not convinced of that.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

All the bad guys have players here by now. The real question is what can they actually do.

Multiple terrorist cells are inside the USA from multiple groups, primarily fund raising is their purpose.

1 more group that hates us here isn't going to worry me much.

Look, it's real simple. Give up all of your guns (and ammo), install a strong leader for an indefinite period of time who will crush the enemy, morph the police and military to create a single unified Death Squad protection agency, abolish income tax and implement wealth redistribution, eliminate borders and get a chip.

Then you will be safe.

The other option is to get blown up.......convert or be beheaded.

The choice is yours.

If it's genuinely ISIS attacking any city will do. I see your point though.
If ISIS is a black-op then strategic targets would be picked. Covering up misdeeds......

The U.S. being run by a traitor that attacks any attempt to secure our border makes it so much easier for groups like this to infiltrate the U.S. and commit acts of terror.

But he already knew that.

Again, it is more of a concern with homegrown terrorists...People sympathetic to IS, who have bought into the ideals that IS presents. That is the concern right now. It would be far more realistic to think that a couple of wannabe Jihadist decide to make a name for themselves by shooting up a Mall or a church/synagogue.

To me this is the most realistic threat right now and most likely the source for the pictures on Twitter. Could they sneak across the border...of course they can along with everyone else but they could also sneak in along the other borders as well. Heck they could come in on a freighter/tanker and blow up a harbor! Anything is possible but the most concerning at the moment is the threat of sympathizers.

Isis is run by retarded men. Not a threat. They wouldn't last 10 seconds against a worthy adversary.

I think it's a good idea for everyone to not lose focus by mistaking the current "leader" as being in charge though. This goes well beyond our current Admin. This goes beyond party lines and political alignment. Whether it's Reagan, Bush, Clinton or Obama makes no difference. All just branches of the same tree with the same roots. The previous Pres. was a part of this too. So is the current and so will be the next. The changing of the Guard is just a formality like changing masks at a costume party. They may look or act different but their game is all the same.
