I'd be looking into Veteran's Today also... I think its an Iranian site. Not sure... working on proof... but they are parroting Iranian news organizations pretty hard core. And people are trusting them because of the "veteran's" label.

My only problem is I'm not sure yet... I just distrust all the parroting.

State owned propaganda versus fascist controlled (WMD in Iraq/Iran) news services. One is not better than the other, ATS just doesn't want debate, world is bad, US is the shining knight, end of story.

If it was true, and so long as it was true, it wouldn't bother me in the least. Because what I strive for above all things, is the truth.

It's all I care about. So no, it wouldn't bother me in the least.

So does it not bother you that many 'true' stories from RT are being labelled as propaganda? Or do you think that 100percent of what is said by them and everything that is typed by each one of their reporters is untrue?

Because if you care about 'truth' then surely it would bother you. no?

We may be fools but were not brainless! Were not brainless were brainwashed! We still have our brains the've just been programmed with all the Government projects

MKultra, Project Monarch, Moonbeam, Artichoke, Cointelpro, etc, I could go on and on about all the secret mind control projects this government has had and I'm sure still have. ... PROJECT THIS, PROJECT THAT AND THESE ARE THE ONES WE KNOW. Imagine what they don’t tell us.

SO no…were not brainless were BRAINWASHED, programmed, controlled to think were not controlled.

Apparently people haven't noticed that the same flag applies to Voice of America links.

Don't take this wrong way, but your lack of response is disturbing given this is a serious change in direction for ATS.

Did you not read the above post by SkepticOverlord. Both the U.S. and Russian state owned news outlets carry the same label.

The story is not being labelled, just the source. I ALWAYS look for more than one source... and try always to look for the original, because that is (usually) where you find fact verses propaganda.

If there is an actual event happening in the United States, you can listen to police scanners and other sources prior to MSM coverage. If its an opinion of a statement or otherwise then you track down the original statement, they got it from somewhere.

If you like the coverage of RT, then link RT first, and then link (for instance) the original UN statement, or an online police scanner, with it... and later if its a breaking story you add more sources that are covering it.

Everything helps, everything is nice as it gives you a fuller perspective anyway.

Okay, you gave a one liner, your usually a man of many words, and it feels/seems your downplaying the importance of your decision.

tbh, i'm not even sure how to respond to your post lol.

We don’t have to agree with it, but ATS has every right to an editorial position.

In fact I would rather know what I'm dealing with than not

btw LightningStrikesHere was banned the other day by the owner for questioning aspects of ATS. An act that shows just how bloody childish ATS can be. If they want control thought then so be it. We can move on to other sites.

Wrong , there is a difference between state owned and opinionated but still owned by citizens......

I fail to see how this is hard to understand......

On the second part of the post, I watched that thread evolve with Lighteningstrikeshere

That is not the reason he/she was banned

There are many instances of many members coming onto ATS and getting banned, and ATS being lenient and letting them come back with new accounts, under the understanding that the behavior that led to their first ban would cease.....

Some members cannot seem to do this, in this case he was granted multiple opportunities for redemption , but he continued to display the same attitude that got him removed in the first place......

MANY members from ATS that are banned are allowed to come back and most of them come back and have no further issues.......

If you continue the same behaviors the fault lies only with yourself......

Its one thing to be heated, ive done so myself, its another to display reckless disregard and disrespect.

Heated debates are fine, slanderous and vitriolic diatribe is not

So I just linked an Article from RT;

I'l do it here, just to show
rt.com...

Now look how this is shown?

RT - state run propaganda? So ATS now chooses on my behalf what to think of this news site? Good luck winning an argument in a thread when the link is shown like this!

Who is ATS to decide what is okay and what is not? Is this not the point of ATS figuring out things, learning the truth for yourself? This is so wrong on so many levels, and I lack the words to explain the gravity of this action right here.
This is really unprofessional, and verry childish!

We have this major thread talking about some recent actions, I read SO's comments and I understood them, I agreed to them on some part, but this seems like a slap in the face. This leaves no room for discussion!

I agree with the site entirely... Russia today is an arm of the Kremlin
and therefore do their bidding.

If you don't like it you can always log out!

Here is an example of why we should run down source. (no, its not RT, its just one from today I saw)

In this article, there was only one source used, and the article said they were quoting from another news media outlet and their interview with the president.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Yet, when I chased down the original article, which was not even linked to in the OP, I found the story to be much different, and actually as a conservative found myself largely (on that particular point) in agreement with the President (lol.. which is rare)

www.abovetopsecret.com...

One singled out one sentence (ignoring completely it's explaination) and added a word which was never there - and made it into something else entirely, something that was so misrepresented as to almost be an outright lie. This is how easy it is to change something into something its not.

All ATS I think is saying is hey, watch out for this with state-owned outlets just as much as you would a gossip rag.

I think you ought to give the members more credit. Seems disrespectful, somehow, to spoon feed them with annotations like that.

I don't mind RT being labeled a 'state owned propaganda source'.

Plainly, it is.

But I do wonder if this new approach by ATS will have consequences beyond what was intended?

One of the things I love most about this website is that it provides me with ample opportunity to interact with or read from people NOT like me. With this new change, I'm concerned we'll miss out on some on the diversity of participants this website seems to naturally attract.

I don't know about any of you, but if I had stumbled upon ATS for the first time and seen a source automatically labeled by the site in the manner done here, I'd likely make an immediate judgement about the forum's 'leanings' and miss the fact of how special this place can be.

In a sea of available forums, ATS stands out as a place of enforced civility and for the most part neutrality, but you need at least some time here to realize this. Otherwise, it's too easy to just assume ATS is like nearly every other forum out there.

I have seen this website described by the ownership in the past as being a virtual town square. I have also seen people come into this town square with one perspective, and over time, change that perspective because of the wonderful information and discussion to be found here.

It would sadden me, if that were to change.

Frankly, this would be a very dull place if the only people this site had a propensity to attract were the ones who already shared a common perspective and the agenda driven extremists who just sign up to oppose them.

There's already plenty of that on the internet.

Can't explain why, just a feeling.

As usual, I'm probably wrong.
