I am pretty sure they didn't pay for all that equipment, they made deals with HHS in order to get it for "free".

Although I agree that not having cameras all over their cars was shocking when I heard it..... Even I got infared security cameras all over my property, with motion trips and "silent alarms." My setup cost me less than 3 grand.

I agree. Plus, I thought the Ferguson PD couldn't afford dash cams and body cams or just don't have them.

Maybe I heard wrong however, they got some expensive military equipment
This bothers me also...maybe they don't want the cameras to show how they really operate.Just my opinion of course.

That`s the way it has been for years,my favorite go to lines that they often use is " now is not the time to place blame..." the time to place blame never seems to come. They trample on peoples rights causing people emotional and financial hardship and are never brought to account for it.
After time passes and things have gone back to normal they never address the wrong doings or place blame, they say things like " I`m not looking to the past I`m looking to the future and trying to build better relations between the community and .. blah, blah,blah.."
They aren`t fooling anyone, we have seen that song and dance time and time again. We all know that nobody will be brought to account for the illegal things that have been done,it will all be swept under the rug that`s why the people are rioting, they know that there will never come a time for them to vent their anger in a civilized manner.

a reply to: TechniXcalityHi, So true. One of the problems I see in this world are all the things that divide us...and labels. Gosh, there are labels for everything...libs, dems, religious labels, gender labels, just constant labeling of everyone and everything. It is the old "divide and conquer" mentality that gets us every time. I think the media and TPTB like that...keeping us on the offensive or defensive and confused and frustrated. When did we stop just being "human" or humanity? Where is our humanity? Einstein was right, "Mans technology far exceeds his humanity". The events taking place in Ferguson are a testimony to that statement. As long as we label each other instead of realizing that we are ALL in this game called life together...we will never have peace in this world. As long as we let religious belief and politics separate us, and let greed and thirst for war and for taking land and minerals and money from others prevail, there will be no peace.

So many posts are slanting on the racial issue or the political issue and even the issue relevant to how much power the police should have over us all...how will anything ever be accomplished unless we learn to celebrate our sameness and accept our differences. We are all human beings just trying to live our lives and laugh and love and share and experience joy. Hate is a poison to the very heart/soul/spirit of man, period. It will ruin us all.

No sure what that has to do with what I posted about having military gear and not dash cams but I guess a "obama is bad" post is good anywhere these days

Is anyome else experiencing tremendous amounts of normalcy bias when trying to discuss this or the other major potentially big (interesting how hardly anyone is talking about Ebola now) topic?

Or is it just me?

No one I work with knew about last night, and when I tell them and they realize how big it is, they run scared.

LoL... Gosh I'm sorry, Sremmos! I got to that broadcast from a link to somebody's link on this thread, and then somehow ended up replying my frustration to You! (Not really sure how I did that.) But yeah, he went on and on and on about our efforts in another country, all the while ignoring the huge Elephant in the room. :\

I noticed that too.Everyone I spoke to(including my mom,who always watches the news)knew nothing about it.

That in itself is scary. This should have been front page news all over America.

i very much agree, but the hard part is people relate to this tension, people have been victims on both sides, it takes a maturity that i hope we as a species can accomplish; to come and say you know what someone did me wrong but this someone/s are not representative of everyone therefore i will forgive and move on...

Well...with Obama announcing he's directed Holder and the DOJ, and the FBI, to do an extensive investigation of the death of Michael Brown. I would think that tight little good old boy Ferguson Police dept, is shaking in their boots.

I think they are used to covering for each other...a lot. I also think that is why they opted out of getting dash cams. There are 47 white LEO and only 3 black LEO on the force. In a 70% African American community, that is not a fair representation of the peoples living in the community.

JMOHO...

This whole thing could have been avoided if the cop would have honed in on his people skills and used some manners when asking these two young adults to use the sidewalk for it's intended purpose. And along this same line of thought, when an officer of the law tells you to get on the sidewalk - since when is it okay to tell him:

1. "And we told the officer we was not but a minute away from my destination and we would shortly be off the street."

BECAUSE

2. "We was having a conversation"

First of all, jaywalking is illegal. I learned that common sense law as a kid. My parents taught it to me, along with the rules of traffic so that when they weren't with me I would be safe when dealing with traffic. Secondly, if I was in the middle of road and a cop told me to get on the sidewalk, I would have immediately done so and not given some smart ass answer. The cop was in the right to ask them to get on the sidewalk. He was not in the right to be a mud mouth to anyone.

So for a lack of people skills, good manners and simple etiquette, - one man lost his life and the cop lost the life he once knew.

Peaceful demonstrations are okay in my book, but it usually happens that there's a few out there that ruin it for the rest.

"Me and my friend was walking down the street - in the middle of the street. And we wasn't causing any harm to nobody, uh, we had no weapons on us at all. We just walking having uh a conversation no cars were blowing at us or honking at us like we was uh holding up traffic or anything like that, uh and, a police officer squad car pulled up and when he pulled up, these was his exact words - he said "Get the f on the sidewalk.' And we told the officer we was not but a minute away from my destination and we would shortly be off the street. We was having a conversation and uh he went about his way for about one or two seconds as we continued to walk and then he reversed his uh truck his car and in a manner to........" Dorian Johnson (I translated his interview for my own behalf).

well its simple really, united we stand divided we fall. If you can create a left and right paradigm you can always guide issues to divide along these lines therefore nothing getting done but the agenda

a reply to: jadedANDcynicalHi, Its not just you, relevant to the normalcy bias. I was out and about today and couldn't help noticing how most folks seemed in their usual fog mode or "me" mode...like, don't invade their space and such.
I guess it might be because the news media gives such slanted or sketchy information or so much is scripted that many folks really don't have a clue as to the reality of it all. That is why I am grateful for ATS and some other alternative websites...if it weren't for being able to find the more down to earth and real scuttle butt as to what is happening, I guess I'd be all zombified-like too and not tuned in to the issues as well as one should be...I swear, today, I kept looking for Brad Pitt to show up in the supermarket like he did in World War Z and start having to take out the sleep walking populace.

I saw the Chief on earlier this afternoon saying something to reporters and only got the end but he made a comment about how things weren't going well (before the announcements that he was not in charge anymore) and I swear he looked like he wanted to be sick.

It was nice to see at least one of the men I would guess helped make that nightmare last night happen, in shambles today. Missouri has been known to disband whole departments. Perhaps that step needs to be considered here.

Are any other members seeing oddness in the #Ferguson hashtag on Twitter again? My two different twitter client apps give an "error" message when I try to refresh #Ferguson, other unrelated hashtags/feeds are fine.

HA! I saw him too, the whole presser. He looked like a shot deer, caught in the head lights. I thought he was going to throw up at one point.

Did you see he kept wiping his nose, couldn't keep his hands off his nose. In body language, that is an indication of deception. He looked completely freaked out.

I'm sure he's used to calling the shots, and not having anyone question him. He's out of his little *I'm the Boss* comfort zone now.

Sharpton's show on MSNBC is covering live (Overhead views too! No flight restrictions now?) protesters going down a main 4 lane road in and taking a full half of it.

I guess we are going to see how true the words of the State Patrol were earlier, very soon.
