"I never do it. When I hear others using it around me I stop them and ask them to explain why. Once the rational brain kicks in, they stop."

Dear Looking, You have intense powers of persuasion.
Or you are hanging around the wrong crowd.
No, make that the right crowd.

What would you like us to talk about?

OK, you caught me. I'm a race pimp. So let's talk about not talking about the "N" word.

If the n-word is so extremely offensive does that mean there's something awful about blacks?

Seriously never understood what was so bad about it. As far as I know it's just short for the country Nigeria.

I know ATS is anti free speech, but surely some posters here are in favor of it?

Okay - I'll be the black sheep...
I have used the word...in conversation with people who know me intimately.
When I do...it is most often employed with an intent to 'startle' them (because of the social conditioning that has gone into it). It might be worth noting, that this is not the only word I use in such a manner...
Others have used the word on me (in recent years) to measure whether I would be suitable to...join their clubs. I guess I failed those tests.

I can agree that the word is associated with ignorant racism, but it's interesting to note how the word has evolved from being derogatory, to being a term of friendship for some groups of people...mostly younger folks.

I got the N word under control, now if I could find a control for the F word...I'd be pure!

"Okay - I'll be the black sheep..."

Dear WanDash, did you do that on purpose?
Seriously though, you candor is admirable.
Since you admit to using the dreaded "N" word as the white person that I reasonably assume you to be, shall I assume
the least scintilla of racial animus on your part?
Of course not.
Whereas others would seek to humiliate, emasculate, and dehumanize.

By the way, WanDash is undeserving of any doubt on my part.

I think there are more important issues in the world than the use of a word.

Whatever you do NEVER use the - ger version. Shame on you if you do. That's all I have to contribute to this

That is such a BS thing. Tomato, Tomahto...wtf they are both red and make great sandwiches. As far as I am concerned they are both the same.

They both mean the same, they both are the same.

I agree...and the fact a group of people call themselves that tells me it is ok for me to say it as well.

We do many things to shock others and get attention, yet we still discuss it. We are not children around here and can have an honest discussion about the word without advocating racism or the use of the word itself...which I know you are not implying, just saying.

And I happen to be a big fan of disco and even some rap. There is garbage in EVERY music genre that perpetuates some sort of hatred or stereotype.

So no hating' on disco....ya hear?
