Growing up in the area (south burbs) we always called it "the arm pit of the world". If you not rich enough to take many vacations, you are stuck there. Nothing to do but eat, sleep, work and party. If the end came no one would care. Those who would are on vacation or the doctors and lawyers left behind...darn.

The whole state is in a long term self made DOOM! No prediction is needed. Just a matter of time before it becomes the new Detroit statewide. Leaving this world for the next doesn't sound so bad to me so bring it on!

Fear and worry kills enjoying life and that is both Chicago and Illinois. I am out west and wish I moved here decades ago.

Doom Porn? Predictions? Destruction? Chicago? what's the difference?

I do miss the food though. Not big on being another ant in an ant hill.

The only prediction that concerns me because I have several kids still living there is the great earthquake of St. Louis. It happened before and will happen again. The effect on Chicago even though it's not direct would be fatal. Many people have made predictions on the Madrid fault but it will be the scientists that will be the closest.

And while they are cleaning up their communication skills so us sinners can understand what the heck they're saying, perhaps drop the "thee" "thous" and "thine" for more modern grammar... because aren't their primary missions (aside from assuring their own eternal buttocks heavenly abodes) to save us ignorant folks from eternal darnation? It would help if we could understand them... maybe.

And sure, why not Chicago? Didn't the dark prez (and likely anti-chris) live there? Good enough reason to flush it down for the mercurial powers that be...

All the scenarios I've ever heard of where Chicago gets hit by an earthquake involved the middle of the country getting unzipped along the New Madrid with Lake Michigan getting emptied out into the resulting rift zone. Basically, the only way I can think this happens is if the current plate N. America sits on suddenly decides to split in two with each half going different ways.

Not going to say it can't happen ... but the likelihood of it? Let's just say I think ISIS has a better chance of destroying the Kaaba and establishing their Caliphate along with seizing the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan.

Actually a few years ago, the western suburbs had about a 4.0 earthquake and I think it was just about a year ago when there was a 2.5. The official explanation for the 4.0 was an ancient previously unknown fault. (but it was right around Fermi Lab, the US CERN, so I think it was some experiment mistake).

Add in the New Mexico and Oklahoma earthquakes and it goes from silly to just very highly unlikely.

It wasn't an earthquake it was massive amounts of dynamite being set off in the granite quarry between Countryside, and McCook. It was originally reported as an earthquake but later in the day the quarry admitted to setting off large amounts of dynamite to further strip the quarry, I live not to far from the quarry in question.oh and Fermi lab is not to far from that quarry.

I watched the videos 'cause I love doom porn! The older I get, the harder it is to scare myself, though.

The one thing that really stood out and made me laugh was how religious fanatics see vision and say 'praise Jesus' and 'hallelujah', so it comes from God.

Psychics see visions, and it's from satan.....

There was a random 2.4 in McHenry , Il a few years ago , other than that , I'm not worried about Chicago.
I AM, however , sick of Illinois and so ready to get out of this state ! lol

I've been here over ten years and in all that time I think only one has come true. It was an earthquake prediction based of sun activity or something like that. It could have been an accurate prediction or it could have just been a coincidence. The others based off the sun activity never happened.

I have been able to track Earthquakes tied to sun activity accurately for a few years now. The key is not flares, or CMEs it is the sunspot numbers/size. The Sunspots release a stream of solar wind that gets absorbed by our magnetosphere. About 48 hours after a major uptick in sunspot numbers/sizes Earth storm system experience a sudden increase if magnitude (category 1 grows to category 3-4; small thunderstorms become great thunderstorms). Once that built up energy is released (mostly through lightning) 24-48 hours later a large Earthquake somewhere on the border of the plate that experienced the release of energy occurs (usually 6.0-7.5 magnitude).

The latest episode of sunspot increase occurred between 06/29/2014 and 07/05/2014.

A 6.9 Earthquake struck the North American Plate on 07/07/2014 (48 hours after release of energy) in Puerto Madre, Mexico.

Typhoon Neoguri upgraded from tropical depression to category 1 typhoon on 07/02/2014 (72 hours after uptick)
Typhoon Neoguri upgraded to category 4 typhoon 07/06/2014 (notice the solar wind stream slowed down the day before on 07/05/2014).
Typhoon Neoguri downgraded to category 3 typhoon on 07/07/2014 (no longer being fed by solar wind steam).
Typhoon Neoguri released its energy on 07/09/2014 on the Pacific Plate.

A 6.5 Earthquake struck the Pacific Plate on 07/11/2014 (48 hours after release of energy) east of Namie Japan.

If the sunspot numbers suddenly increase, 48-72 hours later Earth storm systems increase due to solar wind influence on the magnetosphere. That energy is redistributed to the Earth's crust through lighting strikes when the storm make landfall. 48 hours later the plate that received the energy releases it through an Earthquake on that same plate.

So far I have had 90% accuracy.
