If we can't fix ourselves from ourselves on this planet, what the hell makes us think we can do so elsewhere ?

Let's face it, the human species are locusts... we leave a large swath of destruction behind us everywhere we go. I pity the next planet we choose to colonize.

Once we've completely drained this one of all its life-giving resources, I don't think we're going to have much choice but to eventually spread out into space.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

I think the problem is people's entitlement mentality.

People have actually grown to believe they deserve all they have, if not more.

Not realizing that everything they have was built with/through/using:

1. Natural resources which were left by the Creator to no one in particular.

2. The labour and the fruits of the labour of others.

So why should they own it privately? Just because they want to and say they should?

So, basically, only according to them?

It's like the rich tell themselves they've built their own factories and they work in their own factories and the Earth was specifically given to their grandpa as his own, to hold and do with as he pleased.

No one should own more than one home and no one should own or have less than one home.

We could take care of everyone. If we wanted to.

They conveniently forget all the people that till their lands and work in their factories or did the science and developed the technology their plants use.

They come to believe they've built or earned everything they have by themselves.

A position as arrogant and conceited as it is mistaken.

You don't get to opt for that.
You get to opt for one among the options the human community who collectively own this rock allows you to choose from.
However, you don't own the boat. You're just one of the crew who, collectively, owns the entire boat.

I changed my mind. I decided to build my own rocket and to take your stuff since you have more and I really, really like socialism.

Thanks.

Colonizing space is our only hope. There is a 100% chance that at some point a planet killing asteroid will hit earth.

Maybe not for a million years but one day it will happen.

The world will save itself with or without us. With technology advancing at such a fast pace earth and humans will be fine unless a catastrophe happens. So with that in mind self sustainable technolgy to survive and live away from earth would be the way to go because if the earth is doom we could still live here with our technology meant for space or other planets.

All I see here is greed and envy.

You see others who have more than you, so you think the answer is to make it no one's by making it "everyone's," then it will all be yours ... or at least, everyone else will be as miserable as you.

You are so caught up in your greed that you can't even be generous enough to let those of us who don't want any part of your world have enough to leave and go our own way even though it would mean there would that much more left for all the rest of you.

U beat me 2 it.

There is this question of heaven and hell though which popped into my head one day.

Would heaven really be such a nice place to be if the people there treated it the same way as they treat this place?.

Don't mistake me for being religious, I am not, it was just a random epiphany kind of thought.

The questions of heaven and hell are very contentious. Looking in near death and reincarnation experiences does hold some interesting information. How a diversity of religions approach this topic can be quite confusing.

As for my personal take on it, heaven or hell is pretty much the same place. It is how the universe remembers us.

Good luck to you building your own rocket yourself, out of stuff that isn't collectively owned or that the community allows you to take for sweet nothing.

Again, remember. This would be socialism.

Not capitalism, wherein you can legally conjure up arbitrary amounts of monies to loan yourself at interest to buy anything you want or need to get offplanet.

Nor feudalism / monarchy wherein you can simply claim it is your divine right that we build you a rocket to leave the planet with and stock it full of stuff you want or might need. Or build a pyramid.

What would be much more likely is that you would simply starved, not wanting to be part of the new socialist society nor contribute anything to it and outing yourself as an all out enemy of it.

Why would a rational (socialist) society feed, clothe, house and generally look after its sworn enemies, like capitalists, libertarians and other right wingers?

You seem to be talking from a place drowned in entitlement mentality.

You think you are entitled to own what you have, if not more.

This is not so. You are not entitled to anything by your own decree. Or some deity you might try to invent and popularize to bolster your claims of ownership.

Why do you persist in believing you entitled to what you claim you own?

According to whom and what, besides yourself and those whose own personal interests coincide with yours?

Oh, the state?

You mean the same state that 'steals' from you in taxes in order to enforce your claims of ownership against everyone else who might beg to differ as to your authority to claim ownership over what you do?

I thought you libertarians were against the state, want it disbanded, abolished, view taxation as theft and what not.

By the way, who will print the money in a Libertarian Utopia?

Or are you going to just use gold so you need no money issuing authority? How are the people without gold going to trade? What will you do about counterfeit gold coins (filled with wolfram)?

Or is anyone who wants to going to simply print their own money?

What are you going to do about counterfeiters? Courts (private courts)?

Who will make the laws and enforce them? Private legislatures, private police?

Watching the catastrophe that is descent into your ideal society unfold would be awesome.

In your hypothetical land I just bought a nifty 3-D printer and built two rockets. One to sell and one to keep. I used the proceeds to buy a second planet which I will environmentally exploit and then shove into an orbit with your planet.
