So how's your second amendment rights now? Feel like you could use a little protection? What happens when you call 911, do they say let me see if anyone from Nashville is available? Health Care cuts? They probably need health care more than anyone else. What's next they going to cut the ammo supply? Maybe if the cops in Memphis changed their name to something like officer Jose Martinez they could get some of that money Obama is asking for to deal with the illegals.

Is anyone else in government there taking cuts? Mayor, councilman, manager, planning? Or just the guys who are out chasing bad guys.

Also crime rates are falling all over the country, we have too many cops as it is and they aren't even real police anymore just ticket writers anyway. Fire the bums and free up some room in the budget.

I agree with you 100% Star for you !

you do realize police only enforce the law by charging criminals after a crime has been committed....they do not stop crime they just charge people so why would crime get worse ?

So when somebody is breaking into your house call after they get in and take everything while you watch. lol

They stop, arrest, prevent, and occasionally start crime. The DA is for charging criminals.

the LOL factor is you believe they will arrive in time to catch the crims in action....the police here in this country charge you then you go to court and if found guilty by the judge you are convicted

Newsflash: Criminals and Crime already run unchecked in Memphis.

Memphis is the Detroit of the south. If I were a police officer in Memphis, I would be applying for a job elsewhere.

I was in Memphis a few years back and saw a guy carrying in a book store. Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-carry, but it seemed odd in a book store. I asked him if he was police or what. His response was "You are not from around here, are you?"

lol His response when I asked him why he was carrying in a bookstore was simply: "This is Memphis."

That's the average salary in the US. Lots of people are making a living under the same type of pay, and they are seeing people who make a living off their backs through their taxes throw a fit over it.

I understand that cops put themselves in harms way, and I'm grateful for it ... right up until they start thinking I owe them a better living than I enjoy for some reason.

And they're really just dupes. The real mismanagers in City Hall will use this as an excuse to pass higher taxes on everyone, including the cops who are mad, so that they can suck up more money at the top and pass down precious little of it to those same cops. The cops should be mad at the fat cats who earn way more than they should who live in the permanent bureaucracy of every city sucking up funds like they won some kind of free money lottery.

So 400 cops arent at work? And the city just goes on at it always has? Seems there are 400 too many cops.

On the point of the value of police:

The Memphis Police Department’s clearance rate also increased, going from 24.12 percent to 26.51 percent.
link

So they 'solve' about a quarter of committed crimes.

And about that 911:

With more officers assigned to make traffic stops and work specialized units, new figures show that Metro's average response time for all calls jumped dramatically -- from 18.7 minutes in 2003 to more than 30 minutes last year.
link

A 75% failure rate and a half hour 911 response time pretty much make the Memphis PD pointless. What's 400 cops? Another 5% up or down? Shave 5 minuted from the response times? Woo-hoo, you'll only have to wait 25 minutes!

Seriously, why bother? How much does all this fail cost the taxpayers?

The leadership in Memphis is extremely corrupt and extremely racist. A recent Mayor announced over the tv, in a speech that he would be perfectly happy if all the whites in the city left to move to the suburbs.

If a white mayor had said something similar he would have been tarred and feathered and then roasted on all the network medias. This man just got a pass and there was not a single mention of it in the news other than in Memphis. Everyone knows that blacks cannot be racists, right?

In Memphis, citizens being safer is an impossibility. Might as well say that fewer police in Detroit results in safer citizens.

Umm...yeah.

If that is the case, the city should count themselves fortunate only the few police have called out sick that did or have.

The city is run by morons who have zero experience running anything and have made the most horrendous decisions you can possibly imagine.

Eliminating pensions and altering health care for first responders is just one more example of the stupidity of the Memphis leadership.

There should be a law that establishes minimum IQ and education levels for people running for office.

Because, morals aside, the thing that keeps most people from doing as they please, is the potential of getting caught, etc.

If there is no chance of getting caught, or ever being found out, a vast majority are more inclined to break the "law".

That, right there, is the underlying to "most" of the countries problems. It deserves much more attention that it gets, and not just for the cops sake, but for all our sakes.
