All is very interesting but is it possible to come back to the California sighting and the Green legend ?

===

So if the Green Lady is NOT a Mach 6+ aircraft using boro-laced
ZIP fuel flying from Ohio or the Carolinas over to Turkey and then
over to Afghanistan/Pakistan or from Edwards over to North Korea/China
then it MIGHT BE these GREEN FIREBALLS which are indicative of
Electro-magnetic-plasmadynamic drive and sheathing technology:

en.wikipedia.org...

which have been since since AT LEAST 1949 !!!!!!!!

aaaa---ooooooo---gggaaaaaaahhhhh !!!!!

There are several patents around the superconducting turbo electric bypass machine that will enable more powerful engines to drive a mach 5 hypersonic commercial business jet.

HyperMach new design has a top speed of Mach 5 at 80,000 feet and 7,000-nm range. They are busy developing and testing the critical technology built into the SSBJ’s 76,000-pound-thrust H-Magjet 5500-X hybrid turbofan ramjet engines. Lugg said the company holds “major patents” for its “revolutionary propulsion technology,” which includes a superconducting turbo power core ring to generate the aircraft’s high electrical power requirements.

“The first engine stage produces more than 10 megawatts of power, driving the electromagnetic compressor and bypass fans,” he noted. “There are five turbine stages in H-Magjet, all producing multi-megawatts of power.”

Nextbigfuture.com, Oct. 2016 - Superconducting ring generators are core technology enabling a planned mach 5 Hypersonic commercial business jet.

Maybe if we start saving now we can get stargate a ticket on one? We have something like nine years. Maybe an ATS benefit concert or something. Plus, its got "superconductors" in it! Huh? SUPERconductors??

Original ATS thread from 2011.

ETA: I thought it was kind of neat and had to share. No hard feelings stargate. Just needed an entry way into the conversation so that is my lame attempt at humor!

Green lady...were talking about the green lady.

Any thoughts to thermal mitigation for her? Keep it green lady specific.

I say use Active Cooling very much like what they use in
GPU/Graphics Cards where Liquid coolant attached to the
outer skin is pulled away from the exterior to a large INTERIOR
heat sink that can ABSORB LOTS OF HEAT for a given period of time
such as 3 to 12 hours and when the Green Lady lands, the heat sink
(be it containing another thermodynamically active liquid or
a hard material) can be dumped or replaced on-ground.

For exhaust cooling, I would suggest dumping a volatile (i.e. alcohol?)
into the exhaust to aid in rapid expansion thus cooling the exhaust.
...OR...make the exhaust go through a serptenine ducting system
wrapped in liquid cooling tubes which takes the exhaust heat and
dump it into the time-specific Liquid or Solid heat sink.

That's a few options that I can think of....

Well that is very interesting, as i have recently read about a new solid heat sink, that can absorb a tremendous amount of heat, the electronically shed if later.

Well theres lotsa possible ways.

Metamaterial skins that convert heat into electricity.

Pico second IR lasers to induce a plasma bloom acting like an air spike pushing the bow shockwave away from the fuselage reducing friction and heat.

With aircraft weight equals drag so anything to keep her dress side down is golden. Also how is the electricty stored or is it direct draw from the turbines?

Well unlike other posters in this forum I don't claim to be a super secret insider who builds black aircraft made entirely out of CAPITALIZED BUZZWORDS, but I have heard a lot of talk about magnetohydrodynamic generators.

The idea is that you can accelerate a plasma (or any conductor) by passing it through crossed electric and magnetic fields and use that to propel yourself... Or, like all motors, you can turn it into a generator by running the process in reverse. All you need is a stream of conductive material (like a plasma) passing through your device and you'll get a voltage.

Clearly a greater electric current translates to a greater voltage, so ideally you'd want a large volume of fast-moving plasma such as a jet exhaust.

Now, I hear about this a lot, but I have no idea if it's a viable technology for the "green lady" or any other aircraft, and I'm not even sure how I feel about the green lady anymore these days. I've read this and other threads up and down a dozen times and I have a massive evernote notebook with all of the juicy speculation tagged and organized for easy review.

The idea of using the exhaust to create reallu high voltage is called a flame jet generator. Works sorta like a van de graf generator but instead of a belt carrying the electrons away to create higher voltage potential the jet exhaust is.

Id use it if it were up to me to create a powerful dielectric field by having a opposite charged leading edge and then tune that dielectric to screw with incoming radar and optics.

But i really like theidea of energizing and acceleating the plasma (exhaust) even more.

I dont remeber the specifics, but in the mid/late eighties, one of the cruise missle MFG's, built a prototype "stealthy" cruise missle. Their aim was to minimize the thermal footprint of the vehicle from the ground. The thing that I remeber the most was the use of a "boron slurry" fuel. Sound familiar, the boron slurry had a very low exhaust temp., making it much harder for an IR seeker to lock on.

You could store the energy in capacitors for use in laser defensive AIDS directed by smaller more powerful radar.

I can't even begin to fathom how far this technology has come, if they were this advanced during the days of the Soviet Union and even further in 2000 another 16 years must have phenomenal leaps and bounds.

Hopefully we'll see the results in the white world within my lifetime.

Apparently it's flying around doing ISR missions.

lol

Like you I do hope they move some of the tech to civilian aerospace.

They CAN....!!!! Ram a portion of the jet exhaust into a cavity resonator.

Microwave Cavity:
en.wikipedia.org...

Simple Resonator:
en.wikipedia.org...

The hot engine exhaust MIGHT have enough energy and heat
to cause cascade reactions in the resonator so as to emit
Microwaves, Ultraviolet (i.e. as in Ultraviolet Laser emissions!)
and other EM bands which can be used as a pump for a
Maser or Laser of a specific wavelength and/or power level
which is then used to heat other fuels or for other defensive
and/or offensive purposes.

Maser:
en.wikipedia.org...

The maser/laser can THEN be focused up front of an aircraft
or even to specific parts of the outer skin at specific
bands at enough of an energy level to cause localized
superheating of the atmosphere to push it out of the
way to increase speed, increase RF/Radar Stealth, etc.

Sooo.....

If you read this missive:
en.wikipedia.org...

And talk some math with regards to "Spectral Radiance"
vs "Burning Temperature"

physics.stackexchange.com...

which IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH COLOUR TEMPERATURE IN DEGREES KELVIN:

and have a gander at this article:

Why are there Blue and Green Flames:
www.uwgb.edu...

and FINALLY take a look at these two charts:

Flame Test Colours:
www.compoundchem.com...

AND

Candle Flame Temperature:
www.explainthatstuff.com...

and FINALLY read this article....

Adiabatic flame temperature:
en.wikipedia.org...

THEN I can espouse a theory that the Green Lady is GREEN because
AT NIGHT the colours being burnt are a PREDOMINANCE OF BLUE
with YELLOW sooooo.... the materials being burnt are between
1200 and 1400 degres Celcius ... I ask WHAT single or two fuels
burn around 1200 to 1400 degrees celcius?

I also say...if you decrease PRESSURE you're going
to decrease temperature....therefore.....in this case
the fuel MOST LIKELY to be burning near 1200 to 1400
degrees CELCIUS at a reduced exhaust temperature
and pressure is....AN AMMONIA MIXTURE....!!!!!!!!!

So can you say Ammonium Perchlorate AND something else?
...AND...the ONLY REASON you burn that at said 1200 to 1400
celcius high atmosphere combustion temperature, MEANS....

A COMPOSITE FUEL IS BEING BURNED:

Ammonium perchlorate composite propellant:
en.wikipedia.org...

....as an aside read this document:
"The Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate"
by A.G. Keenan (1968)

Which means you're flying at around the upper limit for combuston
of any kind which is between 130,000 to 145,000 depending upon
atmospheric processes and thermal atmospheric expansions
caused by the sun.

So the Green Lady can FLY ALMOST TO THE STRATOPAUSE
area between 130,000 feet to 145,000 feet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's past 25 miles or 40 km high !!!!!!

Soooooooo.......the Green Lady CAN fly really high in its Maximum configuration
BUT its "Operation Flight Ceiling" is going to be around 15,000 to 20,000 feet lower
than the lower part of the maximum range, so I say around 110,000 to 115,000 feet
will be what the pilots WILL NORMALLY SEE OUT THE WINDOW when piloting the Green Lady !!!!

.....

Again, why do you need to fly at 110,000 to 115,000 feet?

Can you say NRO (National Reconaissance Office) ???

The Green Lady is a Spy Plane !!!!!

----

And based upon TWO flight directions, she is flying over
North Korea and Pakistan/Afghanistan for the MOST part
as her primary photographic missions.

Her secondary missions will have overflight areas
near Yemen and Syria because of possible refueling
at AFB's in Italy or Spain or Turkey!

A THIRD POSSIBLE MISSION will be over south-eastern
CHINA to find the internal testing areas for the new
indigenous Chinese stealth fighters/stealth bombers
and their rail-based or truck-based mobile nuclear
missile launchers and/or their underground bunkers!

Each of the 5 to 12 Green Ladies will fly 3 to 5 missions
per month for at least 15 and as much as 60 overflights
PER MONTH. So we need to look for JPxx fuel purchases
used for the landing/takeoff chase/escort/refuel planes
which should come out to around 20 million gallons a year
in my estimation! And who also makes Ammonium Mixture
fuels at 20 million gallons a year? Find that and you have your answers!
