Basically, they made a visual display expressing an emotion, illegal.

I find this to be rather extreme among other things, mostly unacceptable.

This type of logic, if you want to call it that, paves the road for more sinister things.

Unless I read your post wrong, it appears to me that we may agree on this one Beezer.

The problem here is not the flag...

The problem here is the homeowners associations...

Bunch of greedy-self-righteous-do-gooder-not-in-my-back-yard
a-holes, more concerned with their own rules and property values
than reason and common sense.

That being said, the guy needs to take the flag down. He agreed to
the rules and now he needs to stick to his agreement...just because
it's a flag and he's a veteran doesn't change the that.

He should've whined about it when he signed up for it...

You know, if that was a huge flag flying in his yard, I could understand that
But it's not

Aside from the HOA rules and all that jazz, how much of this has to do with the flag itself and how much has to do with the fact that it's a Veteran doing this?

So no decorations what so ever on the porch, no plants?
What's next?

To make a big deal over a silly little AMERICAN flag is just ignorant, rules or not

My question is this:
Which neighbor doesn't like him and reported him to the HOA???????

The nitpick of the century. A small flag in a flower pot? I bet there are some sorry looking potted plants that don't get fined.

Just a way to leach money from people.

Nobody has to report you in a HOA, they do regular patrols and check each and every house. They find the infraction themselves long before some one reports them.

The long and short of this is don't move into a HOA.... Unless you don't mind having some freedoms taken away for the "greater good"

We're on the same page here.

It's disturbing that someone could even come up with a rule that would dictate this.

I wrote out a big long thing and then my internet went out.

HOAs are absolutely insane. My parents moved down to Florida into an HOA community and they've already had to put up with their ridiculousness. Apparently one day the HOA came up with a list of colors that your mailbox can be and then went around the neighborhood checking mailboxes to make sure they were in compliance. When my parents' mailbox didn't match the colors on their little list, they had to repaint it. The worst part is that my mom thinks it's a good thing to live in an HOA community, that it's somehow safer. Nevermind the fact that our house was scouted out to be burglarized, that the house next to us was broken into and vandalized, that a house right down the street was robbed because the owner was a drug dealer, or that there's a pedophile around the corner... We're somehow in a "safe" community because we have people to order us to change the color of our mailbox.
THIS is one more reason why we should be allowed to own guns. If a group of people decided they were going to take my home from me because I had a little American flag on my porch, they'd be taking it over my dead body.

Crazy *ing nutjobs.

You won't never catch my azz in suburbia!!!!
No way, no how...

Shame the neighbors won't ban together on this one
It's not like he's flying the Rebel flag or anything deemed offensive....oh wait, forgot, the American flag is offensive to some

Hmmm, what country are we in again???

Sorry, I understand the rule thingy, but this is just silly IMO

This ranks up there with the judge who said the elderly lady's house could be sold to pay a $6 debt. The losers in the government office pushing it won't even kick in $6 to help an elderly lady. Sad world.

I can see an HOA doing things that would prevent loss in property values.

But can anyone come up with an explanation that states how a flag would lower property values?

What other reason is there to have an HOA to begin with?

To force people to live they way those who have taken charge want people to live.

This says a lot to me,either they tried and failed or this really is a rule that majority of people in that HOA want.
Or this HOA just does not care and they run things their way and if you don't like it, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You know what they say about absolute power...

That's what goes on even in HOA's. People have too much time on their hands and kind of like the feeling the little bit of power gives them. Making a vet take his flag down would give someone a huge rush, I'm sure.

It's nuts. People are nuts.

So they can make up little rules and then sue people who don't comply fast enough. Criminals.

I'm serious though.

Imagine you all are in the room when they are writing the rules.

Someone says, "No flags. Period. Of any size!"

You say, "Why?"

That person answers. . . . . .

Thanks for the update, and F/S.
The climate for ownership of your own undisturbed space is
becoming impossible unless you are 'of the hive'.
Rules are being more used all the time to weed out non-conformists,
individuals and most dangerous of all, those willing to fight for
what they believe in. Where's the injury except to the absolute
authority of some set of rules and the consortium that drew them?
Sure I'll keep my yard clean, and get your sheep.... outa here.

It's no wonder those vermin in DC are characterizing veterans as the
most dangerous enemies of the state. It seems to be trickling downhill
more as of late, and is an accurate reflection of what the government
stand for. I'm not going to wax poetic like a patriot and brewer, but may
some meek inherit the earth four yards at a time, because Larry was gone.

Kinda like a 'Preppy-Mafia', huh???

Well, not to that extreme but,.... you're under their rules, so if you don't comply, it's well-----

I imagine it is all types of flags and not just the American flag. Though I could be wrong.
