Well, they do have the Wounded Warrior Project which helps veterans
[One good thing about Bill O'Reilly, he is constantly talking/promoting WWP, that's where we first heard about it]

But to do a surprise like this buddy did for the Marine, well that just takes the cake IMO

That would make an inspiring reality show, surprising veterans in a similar fashion
Let the friend be the main one in charge...

Of course, since there would be no yelling or fighting etc., etc., the show would never make it off the ground
Only negative reality shows get high ratings seems like....can't stand any of them

Only reality shows we watch, if any, are Face Off/ Ink Masters /Tattoo Nightmares

They used to have a show on television that surprised people with home renovations. It was on some cable channel I think... and I watched it a few times and found it an enjoyable and pleasant show, although I cannot remember the name of it.

I'm sure there are enough Americans who would watch the same type of show, more even since its about returning military surprise renovations!

I can see something like that taking off..

I'm with you on some of this stupid programming though... I pretty much just don't bother watching television. I cannot understand why people get into any of these shows.

Of course you dont believe my. Ive been in italy for 8 years getting treatment. Of course you dont believe this has not just happened to me. Of course you prefer to turn a blind eye and be distracted by feel good stories like this while the same 'nice soldiers' are not questioning their leaders orders.

especially after things like this....

www.abovetopsecret.com...

This story is a distraction. It has all the hallmarks. Deny Ignorance.

So,you're saying you were shot in the face by a soldier in Italy, was it? When did this event occur? What were the circumstances?

Ahhh I see the school summer holidays have started already!

What does surprise me is that a chap of 21yrs service could only afford a cheap fixer upper. Surely with that amount of service he should be paid far more than that? Or is the US military notoriously badly paid? Seems a bit out of sorts that a Master Sergeant can only now afford to buy a house when he's retiring!

Very nice story, Snarky. Many of my family members (dad, older brothers, uncles, cousins) were soldiers and these stories just warm my heart.

And please keep in mind Tis The Season.....for trolls. School is out in a lot of areas so the young'uns gotta do something with their time.

Soldiers get crap pay, most families live BELOW the poverty level. I had 2-3 soldiers under me that needed to go on FOOD STAMPS just to feed themselves. Their off post rent was high, and were both on a waiting list for on post housing. One was on the list so long, they transitioned out after 3 years and 2 months AFTER they left, I got a phone call saying their housing was available.
Why did this happen? They were lower enlisted, and when an officer or NCO transfers in, they get preferential treatment, and the lower enlisted so would get bumped down the list.
It sucks.

You're not going to become a millionaire on military pay and homes in the San Francisco area are extremely expensive.

You right it is exactly what they ate. Mindless killers who found a legal way to satisfy their barbaric needs. Each and every person that go to the military know exactly what they do. They go there cause they WANT to. Each and every person going to armed forces and their family are mass murderers,, at best murderers and accomplices. Do not come back with crap telling how sorry they are or psychologically scarred or # you are. You chose a career where you know you will kill people. Live with it. Stop trying to convince others you are good person, you aint and you deserve every single second of bad karma coming your way. You will all go to hell or the equivalent. a reply to: SubTruth

Do you know how STUPID you sound? Every person that enlists is a mass murderer? They enlist so they can kill?
Get over your ignorance! I enlisted and guess what? I was a cook and supply clerk, no enlisting to kill, I joined to serve my country. Wake up and grow up, tough guy behind a monitor.

Oh and by the way, if anyone wants to comment on my cooking killing people by food poisioning: stuff it :p

It is quite amazing how many people think that the military ONLY consists of fighting men

Just because one is in the Military does not mean that they are on the battlefield
There are a whole slew of other positions, such as you mentioned cooks/supply clerk

Oh yeah, I heard about you supply clerks, you guys are sneaky. You're the ones to watch out for!!!

Much respect~

For me anyone who is a soldier in in the US is as bad as a German soldier was under the 2nd world war. Traitors to humanity and upholder of the fascist corporate system to scared to do anything except what they are told for some stupid programmed sense of nationality that only feed the top and use violence at the bottom and their us citizens.

If the military really was something to protect the US they would already have seized all the politicians and bankers and CIA in a coup and informed the people of what is really going on so that there can be a real election with all the cards/information on the table. That would end the FED and Corruption. But no as in Rome the stupid Army just follows orders and the internal enemy destroy the empire from within. People never learn.

You got cooks, supply clerks, mechanics, medics, vet specialists, drivers, military photographers and journalists, a ton of non combat jobs in the military.

Won't ever happen. If the military staged a coup, then our country would be led under a MILITARY DICTATORSHIP, simply not gonna happen

Anyhow, enough, on topic, I loved this story, I choked up when the MSGT started crying. The bond between brothers in uniform isn't one I can describe.

Can you explain to me how Military are risking their lives for us......? You do realize they are fighting, in ANOTHER country, other people who are defending THEIR country..... So the rest of the world does not give a damn about what you and the suited goons think they are doing for OUR freedom. We where been plenty free before 9/11.....I give more respect to firemen than anyone overseas fighting a war they started. At least a fireman doesn't go around starting fires, then calling all units to put it out.

So then, the regular soldiers just up and decided to invade Iraq and Afghanistan then?

Oh, wait that was the same politicians you civies keep electing isnt it?

Soldiers dont get to decide. They sign up to defend their nation, as such they have to take an oath, which means following orders they do and dont like.

What about the national guard who signed up to help their home communities, like with floods and forest fires hurricanes tornadoes earthquakes etc..... They get ordered to federal duty and shipped off just like all the others, against their will.

Once again by the same POS politicians you elect and take no responsibilty for the actions of.

If the regular soldiers got a choice they would be home with their loved ones, but even their votes dont get counted most of the time. Do you know how many over seas ballots get lost every election cycle? Especially from a war zone during a time of war? Most vote for the guy that will bring them home and use diplomacy for peace.

I think your statements are as full of ignorance as anything I have ever read.

These are not war mongers we are talking about, they signed up to defend their country, they get forced to fight these idiotic wars.

They sign up to defend even in peace, because once you are invaded, it is too late to train and equip an ARMY, the entire nation would be overthrown long before that could happen.

So we must have a standing ARMY, ready to fight at a moments notice. The politicians are to blame for everything you have said not the soldiers. Who will go to jail, for "failure to follow a lawfully given order".

Your kind......if we didnt have a standing ARMY and were invaded, you would be the first complaining about them not protecting you.

So we have one, that is misused by the politicians, against the will of the soldiers.

Did I explain that clear enough, or is the ignorance still gripping your mind?

Op, I love this. Thank you so much, I heard about this on the "free beer and hot wings" morning show the other day, but never got a chance to explore it further.

This is amazing!!!!

This is what battle buddies do for each other, they got each others backs. This is what we were taught in my time in, and what they still teach to this day in basic and military culture.

Star and flag OP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And a beer, as this is the way folks talk where I am from, we have a couple of beers and enjoy good company.

Stories like this give me faith in humanity, thanks for the share.

> People trained to kill other people being nice to each other? Gives you faith in humanity?

It would be nice to see people helping strangers. It would be nice if these people stopped killing brown people.

Sorry, no time for people acting all nice when in the military! If you decide to choose a profession killling people you are NOT a nice person.

Speaking as a father of a daughter who has served for 10 years, including a tour of afghan, can I just say your comments are abhorrent and deplorable. She is a lovely person and I would suggest a lot "nicer" than you are after your scummy comment.
