His body had to be identified by dental records? Is that to make it official and confirmed or was the body badly ravaged by animals or decomposed? Also why was ICE involved in the search and rescue effort? That seems strange.
Also where is the proof that this guy was doing a 411 type investigation? Someone previously posted in this thread saying that. Where is the info on that?

I heard it, at 4 am, getting ready for work. What I did hear was this guy had been investigating the disapearances of the many people in national parks recently. He had a website called The Devil is in the Details, AND the place where he disappeared was called The Devil is in the Details! Which kinda freaked me out. Then I had to leave for work.
I see they found his body, will check back for details later.

I hope someone records his reaction and attempt to
explain the unexplainable.

He was found 1200 ft up, from where the campsite was.
So now this is going to go in the books as an even stranger
occurance than if he just disappeared.
During a news conference that afternoon, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said a medical examiner was working to determine the cause of death.
“It did not appear he had been trapped. It appeared he was laying over the terrain, partially covered by brush,” Dean said

I agree.
Even more of mystery and even more of a perfect fit for
Mr. Palides' criteria.
The off-duty firefighter was camping with fellow firefighter and paramedic Taylor Byars the night of June 13 when Herdman’s dog, Duke, ran from the camp site toward Sespe Creek.
The two men went after the dog and at one point decided to split up. Herdman, 36, was barefoot and wearing a shirt and shorts. Byars said that was the last time he saw his friend or the dog.
Do you really need bigfoot, the devil or aliens to explain this?

a little kid can add 1+1 together: RUGGED TERRAIN, BAREFOOT, SHORTS...
(Someone posted the maps and the first thing catching my eyes were the hills at the side of the river)

WHOH!!!!
He was found 1200 ft up, from where the campsite was.
So now this is going to go in the books as an even stranger
occurance than if he just disappeared. The area is highly
rugged and stixy.
Horrible outcome.
No sign of foul play.
Dean, who would not comment specifically on the condition of Herdman’s body.
“Sadly, nobody but Mike is ever going to know … why he would take off into this kind of terrain, in the dark, in bare feet,” Dean said.
