I swear. That really makes me angry. What are they going to use to replace it? Apaches? HA! dont make me laugh! the F-35? not likely. No the Soldiers are going to be left out in the cold this time.

Please feel free to post your respects.

why would you be angry over such trivial stuff ? A10 are not survivable on modern battlefield filled with large calibre AAA and MANPADS. Even the AH64 and the rest of Army Choppers wont be on the FLOT because they are even in worse danger than A10..

against real enemy with full anti air support and missiles, american will lose.. so why worry ?

This like the Carrier is doomed claims. However, the A-10 like the Carrier does not exist or fight in a vacuum. In a large scale war (what is was designed for) the A-10 would play its role very well. This was a weapons system designed to fight while the enemy had a massive advantage in numbers of both combat aircraft and ground based air defenses. Of course nobody has that avantage against the USAF anymore in Aircraft numbers and as we have always seem ground based airdefense systems have always been shown to be easly defeated by simple counter measures.

The question of the A-10 is if it is needed or not. It adapted very well to operating against insurgents and such. Which is what its primary mission would be now, and which not many other options can fill that role. its former primary mission of dealing with massed armor formations is no longer really valid as those formations no longer exist and when facing US airpower they would be quickly chewed up by a variety of weapons systems.

Granted most nations do not have commited CAS options and instead depend on artillery or mrls for support. The speed of US forces makes that a bit harder though.

Beginning of the end for Pilots never mind Aircraft.
In ten years we will be crossing the pond on commercial flights with no-one at the helm.

uh.. Carrier is doomed in a real naval warfare...

so far US never put it's modern carriers into real war.. but if history an indicator, look how easy it is for the Japanese pilots to hit and destroy US navy ships in world war 2 with untrained japanese kamikaze warriors..

can you guess which blip on the radar that will be the primary target of massive supersonic antiship missile attacks ? the endless 'Vampire' calls would be the nightmarish cry in all ship's CIC..

Ya Japan was real successful. You have no idea what you are talking about. And to say carriers are doomed just shows a lack of understanding of what you are trying to get across.

I remember back before the war in Iraq so many armchair warriors were saying America would fail...........I am betting you were one of these people.

tell me, when have the US navy ever encounter attacks against their carriers since world war 2 ?

in every war after worldwar 2, USA never fought an equally strong enemy , but always choose weak ones.. heck even weak ones like korea and vietnam still kicked US military's behind

WE don't often choose a THING,the disfunctional UN tells us what to do our allies agree and then bob's your uncle.
Unless of course you re a hustler from Chicago....THEN you just screw it all up so they'll run to you later for help.

Thank GOD the officers in service stood up to him and sacrificed their careers or we would be in Iran with a male/FEMALE draft. They want the ladies dead too folks, three cheers for feminism and other short sightedness.

CHINA lost too THAT was an equal fight accept ,they are small and breakable because WE eat meat.
THAT and we are free thinking and KILL at 10 to 1 odds on EVERY turn when directly confronted which is WHY they must hide from the bigger nastier American.

the notion that US can defeat china is so laughable , history proved that the last time US military met with the Chinese , even with abundance of air power and fire power, the US forces lost and forced to retreat to the demarcation line in korea. Division after Division of US Army were destroyed as they had to pass thru numerous chinese ambushes along their path of retreat. South Korean Premier Divisions practically ceased to exists as the chinese PVA descend upon them. The US Marines so full of bold talk , abandoned the US army force protecting their flank and flee to the coast and boarded the ships to pusan.

and that was in 1950s.. if China and US fight a real war in 2015 , it will be hell on earth for US military when their carriers and ships get destroyed by chinese supersonic missiles and submarine torpedoes.. Sure the chinese also take horrible losses but can the US public accept the fact that US military getting slaughtered by thousands in some unnecessary war far away ?

if US gave up the it is defeated , no ? dont tell me you are too deluded to realized that US was defeated in the battlefield so totally that they abandon their south vietnam puppet to their enemy

look , i dont have anything bad to say about american boy scout. if you really a boy scout then i assume are a learned person with a bit of field expertise. I dont get why you persist in derailing the thread by derailing it into paranormal / djinn issue.. ATS got threads for that you know , so please stay on topic and stop with the childish insults.

PLEASE GO BACK TO TOPIC : A10 GOT AXED - OP ANGRY

Anyone remember STEEL-TIGER ? it is codename for american intervention of Ho Chin Minh trail in vietnam war. USAF used AC-130 gunships with it's 20mm and 40mm cannons as primary weapons against Vietnamese Trucks along the trail (the 105mm equiiped Gunship is not operational yet).

The greatest danger for the AC-130 when it is operating is : a) Full Moon (gunship operate only at night) b) 37mm and 57mm AAA gun c) SAM was introduced to the trail later

When the inevitable happened , a Gunship was hit dead on by an SA-2 and totally destroyed and another got damaged by SA7 MANDPADS , every AC130 gunship in theatre was suspended for a while until squadron wide ECM addition.

WHATS THE POINT OF ALL THESE ????

A-10, Helicopter Gunships, AC-130 gunships cannot operate above enemy that have MODERN ANTI-AIRCRAFT DEFENSE...

US military never have to face an enemy that have modern weapons since germany.. US soldiers never faced massive artilery bombardment since Korea (some marines in Vietnam DMZ battles tasted these a bit)..

So the american soldier psyche think he is the toughest guy on the block , which is delusional when in fact it is the artilery support and air strikes that stopped/slowed the enemy infantry. Once you destroy american artilery and deny air superiority, the ground soldiers will break mentally and morally and quit.

THATs CAVALRY scout as well not a BOY scout ( Although I did make "Weblow" before I lost my Dad) go back to school and learn the difference
AC130 wasn't IN Veitnam they were refift WWII aircraft called COSIGN DRAGON C47s and BOXCAR aircraft NOT the Hercules.
The Lockheed AC-130 gunship is a heavily armed ground-attack aircraft variant of the C-130 Hercules transport plane. The basic airframe is manufactured by Lockheed, while Boeing is responsible for the conversion into a gunship and for aircraft support.[1] The AC-130A Gunship II superseded the AC-47 Gunship I during the Vietnam War.

FUNNY I guess I WASN'T under an artillery BARRAGE from MODERN Russian trained Artillery teams.

www.first-team.us...
A10s get shot up all the time..it doesn't WORK to well and shows them where the enemy are to killwww.bing.com...=detail&id=C663E34DF2043472CF995A83FA3D5ECCF4BA24BB&selectedIndex=3

ANY other point I can stomp you into the ground about because of ERRORs again?
I LOVE people like this they MAKE me LOOK far more intelligent ONE can only hope HE is working for the bad guys he sure loses like them.
WE ARE the worlds best by either gear ,money or training we have MILLIONS to choose from and the bar IS high.I think Israel has better pilots,SAS is the BEST elite and PEOPLE from other countries who try to tell ME as a combat vet who I am are a joke.
edit on 19-7-2014 by cavtrooper7 because: finished my point.

LLRP teams didn't HAVE support during Viet Nam WE as and armored Regiment didn't NEED it we just overran the silly people who couldn't fight, but then again you've been so wrong ...

funny way to say no hercules based gunship in vietnam,, i guess all that herk flying above the trails are cargo aircraft dropping flares ? i wonder if their outragous BDA (totally fictional by the way) was caused by these herks pilots dropping some 40mm sized cargo all over the trail ?

you said you are a soldier but you dont even know the AC130 history ?? You dont know one of these thing get smacked head on with SA2 no survivor ? and you still pretend to be a man of service ?

i find this amusing to say the least

Amen.

Soldiers love the A-10 because the guys that fly them are really bloody good and those bullets land exactly where they are meant to, hell they feel safe just 10 meters from the target and know they wont get hit.

The bloody bombers, now thats some scary #, i dont care how "precision" a bomb might be, JDAMs or guided Small diameter bomb - its a bomb and that shrapnel flys all over the place.

Give me a skilled pilot with a 30mm auto cannon anyday. "bzzzzzzzt" *explodes*

Getting rid of them is bizarre and insane tbh.

First you mention Korea and say the Chinese slaughtered all these American troops, let me introduce you to somebody that would disagree... en.wikipedia.org... Chesty and the USMC heavily outnumbered slaughtered the Chinese for days... did they fall back yea, that's what you do when outnumbered and surrounded. Many more Chinese met their maker on the long march from frozen Chosin than did Americans.

Then you bring up Vietnam... enlighten me, when did the Chinese defeat the Americans in a straight up fight... because I am pretty sure we never lost a conventional battle in that war... the Vietcong certainly messed us up in unconventional ways, that was the failure of US leadership in that time not the US soldier.

Then you mention AC-130... what on gods green earth does the gunship have to do with the Warthog? the A-10 can loose half a wing and most of its vertical stabilizer and still fly home, I Seriously doubt there is a tougher thing flying.

You jump around so much in your argument I cant tell if your a horrible troll or have a rabid hatred for the USA... if its the latter I suggest you seek help because that level of hatred will only poison every avenue of your life.
