Before i go on ahead, youve all seen the old b and w footage of NY from 1905 or the footage before the earthquake in the early 1900s in the U.S they have been posted many many times.

Also there is a famous person who has colour photos from 100 years ago in Russia, and there are pictures and many websites of it

This blows all of that out of the water.

Swap to 720p and you have almost crystal clear colour footage of Berlin from 1900

Yes 1900 almost 115 years ago.

Absolutly unbelievable, just think, every single person in this video is now dead, and this isnt just blurry footage from eras long gone
the fact that this is in such clear colour, makes you realise how real these people are/ were and how short life is

PS, one ironic thing, isnt it sad that a video from 114 years ago is better quality than most ufo videos in 2014

Cries no reply?
this is almost like a time machine
and unlike the other clips you hear about all the time, which are in fuzzy b and w
this is almost like the footage was taken yesturday, not 115 years ago

Is it me, or the frame rate doesn't match the one used in this era?

Isn't it possible that the frame rate was tempered with so to give a more "realist" footage (since the old frame rate gave the impression everyone were walking like squirrels); and, by extension, isn't possible that the footage was digitally re-mastered so to give it more "realistic" colours (since the old footages gave the impression the universe was in black and white - or sepia)?

It's nice footage, a window into a long lost era.

Without sounding rude, you do know the colour is added, right?

That is very cool indeed, yes the color is artificial but thats ok.

Its strange to see everyone with their heads up looking around and not head down burred into an ipad/smartphone/laptop.

There is a strange calmness to everyone, content and alert. Fantastic little find! S+F

Even if the color is added, that burst of life it adds to old photos and films makes all the difference. It gets a solid WOW & the OP gets a S&F from me for sharing it

Thats like looking at a singers hair and saying how beautiful her hair is, and somebody saying `you know her hair is dyed right`?

I mean who cares
and im pretty sure this is a damn good likeness to real life
and it brings them closer to life, like real people

Outstanding footage, absolutely amazing and also a touch saddening to see what we've become. Chances are most of the people in this footage were hard working, decent folks with morals; you cant take a picture of a busy city block these days and say the same thing sadly.

eta: S&F and thank you op

Also just to add
it isnt `coloured in with a pencil`

its simply applied through filtering strips which add colour to it
with the exception of one or two things, its more or less exact, so i see no need to talk about the technicalities

Thanks for posting it. Yeah, it has been coloured (the u is important, grrrr go away squiggly line spell checker, there's a u in colour!)

Anyhoo, did you know there is also a part two of this footage!? Here's some more of that old age action!

Sigh..... Love it when common folk get wise on photographic technique.
It blantanly obvious that this is coloured. You are not getting a near acurate result of what it looked like but you do get an IDEA of what it looked like.

Its not exactly the first time this has been done....

Another important aspect is that colourfilm wasnt invented back then so the original film does NOT have any colour information you can magically bring out.

Looks to me like it was shot around 1914 judging by the Soldiers big send off.

I'd probably agree with you. A lot of men in uniform for the very early 1900's. It's probably around the late 1914 early 1915 period, when the war was still popular.

Spooky, moving and beautiful!

This isnt the original upload of the video, MrYourentertainer posted it first under the title Berlin 1900 in colour!!!! ,along with a brief description.
The footage spans 30 years apparently from 1890-1920.

P.S I´m sick of repeating it time after time, so here is the following: i just wanted to keep the title as short as possible, so i didn´t want to write " Berlin and germany in the years of 1890-1920" . therfore, i chose the year 1900 to give the viewer a general idea of about what year the footage he is watching is from. So yes, some scenes are from munich, although the very most, 98% or so is indeed Berlin footage.

Thanks for posting OP

I realize that. Was it Noah Webster here in USA that first thought that words should be spelled more phonetically and then wrote his dictionary with UK spellings mostly changed? Not sure, but I think it was.

He for some reason left some words the same -- like tongue, instead of "tung".

BTW Thanks for the link.

I read that Orson Welles said something like "Keep that f'n Turner and his crayons away from my films!"
