By leaving them alone and letting them live their own lives. Simple as that.

Knock on their door everyday, with a copy of the bible, telling them they will burn in hell if they don't join your cult. That will soon win them over, a tactic that works really well for the Jehovah witness's.

The Lord God Almighty says to smite them.
You are obligated to follow the holy word.

Careful...they may smite back!

Maybe read your bible some more especially the part about Jesus protecting sheep not just sheep who label themselves Christians.

I trust Jesus to be a blessed one guarding the gate with all the other blessed ones making sure no ravenous wolves come in. Jesus knows who is a sheep by the fruits and who is a goat(anti Christ) even when they call themselves sheep.

OK, so I am not a heavily religious man nor do I practice any particular religion but I do believe in spiritual life and a creator. I believe that it is no accident we are her now to face the lives we face. So I just moved to a town one town over from my hometown. It is a very conservative town. There is enough room at the 7 churches to hold the whole town. My neighbors are really nice people. They are both educated teachers and in my opinion quite intelligent.

Just the other day they seemed to make a point to tell us that they were atheists'. I must say I was surprised due to the type of people they were. They were good moral people who have adopted a child and been good parents. Their daughter is wonderful and is a good friend of my daughter. But I wonder, without a sense of god, where will this child go?

Will she wonder what her future is with no hope or knowledge of something greater. How can I help these people realize that there is more to life than human flesh and blood and we all will reap what we sow?

If you really want to help them, the best thing you can do is leave them alone, and let them follow their own path. They found what makes them happy, just as you found what makes you happy. If they feel like they need to change, they will on their own path.

You try to force them to change, all you're doing is allowing your own ego to tell you you're right, and they're wrong. That, in itself, is wrong.

You can slay them for their blasphemies and claim their home in the name of the Lord.

Christians have been doing it for centuries.

Or better yet, you can simply just leave them alone

p.s. I know of a scary NDE account....search Gloria Pollo.

When I was coming to the end of my descending, I ended up in a place where there were swamps. There were millions and millions of people buried in those swamps. The people in those swamps were buried up to here. I was given the knowledge that the people in there were the people who had given their bodies over to concupiscence, to pleasure. There were thousands and thousands of miles of that mud. You want to know what that mud is? It's all of the non-holy ejaculations. How many millions and millions of sperms get released every time there is an ejaculation? All of that creates a horrible swamp and darkness.

And these people are in there being tortured by thinking of every person whom they had relations with outside of the Sacrament of Marriage, because that is the only holy relationship, the one in which Jesus is in their midst, which is only through the Sacrament of Marriage. Outside of that, even if you are the only couple in existence, those are ejaculations outside of the grace of God and every person with whom they had intimate relations with are in there stuck with them in that swamp. The shame and pain that they feel there is of a horrifying magnitude.

Scary that anyone would believe that bulldust, yeah.

To highlight, why? This is what she saw. God made the beautiful sexual act, our participation in God creating
a brand new person with a body and a soul. He made sex for marriage and procreation. Both, for good reason.

Look at the consequences here of not following...believing God. Hardly any next generation and the destruction of the family.

And yet, look at all the animals that have sex for fun. And engage in homosexuality. I guess they must be evil too.

Also, our species is not in danger of going extinct from homosexuality. Although war might do it, if we can't learn to look past the small stuff.

If you hate them then leave them alone never to find salvation. If you love them then lead the neighbor hood by example of charity and goodwill in the name of the lord.

How about just leave them alone - these are educated adults, good people, with morals, intelligent, adopted a daughter.
They have a right to their own beliefs.

The OP isn't coming back anyway....but this advice is abysmal. The daughter will find her own way - the parents have decided on theirs. LEAVE THEM ALONE.
THEY DON'T NEED ANY "HELP".

Unless, of course, the OP has a pole-saw or pruner or cup of sugar or hammer that might need to be borrowed for an hour or two....

if anything, the OP should LISTEN to them - without judgment, without condemnation, without pity - just get to know them. They were "fine" before he discovered their atheism.....so now they are developmentally disabled and to be rejected if they don't 'come round' to the OP's way of thinking?

Maybe they told him pointedly that they are atheists because they don't want anyone "inviting them" to one of the 7 churches in town.

I wonder, if they had said they were Wiccans, would he be calling someone to come and exorcise the lot of them??????

Leave them alone.

Well if you believe in no particular God then why do you believe we will reap what we sow? Why do you believe they must believe in a Creator? Granted I am Christian I am just curious as to whats the point in wanting them to just believe in a Creator. Then they are going to want to know which creator.

a reply to: BuzzyWigs Why only hilight one line from a two line post. I mean all you do is take half a simple message to twist it. My advice was very sound and called for no direct contact with them and was leaving them alone. i stated to simply make the neighborhood a better place through charity in the name of GOD basically leading by example and if you or anyone else has problems with that then you should take a step back. The knee jerk reactions lacking thought that simply go with the flow is a no win road. Again i mentioned in no way directly contacting the neighbor for religious training camp yet you still find fault.

Wise people know that they know nothing.
You think you know much more than two educated neighbors. So let me help you with your decision.

The neighbors most likely spent some time considering this spiritual option. We are all familiar with the proselytizers, the committed, the true believers who are so ready to 'share'. They demand that we say god in official statements, put the word god on our money, give them tax benefits to act insane, promulgate really crappy politics, promote sexism and any other type of craziness because they believe that god has informed them that this is so and needed.

Your neighbors weighed sanity against goofy. They went with sanity as opposed to formulated, fascist falsities.

Folks such as yourself are nuts who think that the shell on your head contains fruits of wisdom. NOOOOO, it's just nuts.

They may want to enter into a discussion with you since they broached the matter. They undoubtedly have causes for being atheist. Ask them why they went this route to enter the future. It may be entertaining and they will appreciate that you inquired. You can also attempt to make your points but you had better have more than FAITH to back your positions.

Keep it up Charles, my admiration for you grows stronger with each post.

This could have actually been a thread about Christians and Atheists coming together, and how to actually bridge that gap.. because I am certain it can be done.

You would be great with Game Theory.

They come together all the time and get on fine but as soon as either side starts imposing their views onto the other problems can arise....like the OP wants to do.
Keep your religion to yourself and don't try and convert the ones whom do not need converting..plus keep religion away from state and state schools and it will be all good, but one side want that in state affairs and want a theocracy and many will fight that and have including the USA founding fathers.

Sorry Charles but you were out of order.
No one knew his past until you brought it up and you were the one who put the opening thread into the "Don't attack him he is mentally unwell" field.
Personally I don't think his post was from a mentally ill person but it did need pointing out what many people have said.
If a guy can't take a bit of ribbing on the net he shouldn't be on it.
But I think the OP can cope.

It was more stating that this thread was an opportunity to educate on how, even in the most unlikely of circumstances, we can still work together rather than simply be contrarian.

I am not interested in the typical religion vs atheism stuff. It seems I am a part of an increasingly dwindling group.

Leave them alone. Pick an easier battle. Hey? Why dont you let them help YOU to become an Atheist?

Get my point? They have right to believe or not, just like you do.

Dont try to save the world. You cant. Now...why not PRAY for them instead? And...leave them to their beliefs....

My advice to you is just...(let them be). The best thing I think you can do is...pray for them...but don't try and change them; if they choose to change or not...that is up to them.

I have found in life it is best to love and accept people as they are; you can't change them...you can only change yourself.
