A short scientific study on the correlation between sun spots, CO2, magnetic fields, and basic earth climatological history.. Just the facts as they have been determined with records and independent scientific study.

Huh? I think you need to read graphs better.

If you think the data in this graph was manipulated, provide a source to counter it that shows higher than 300ppm CO2 concentrations prior to ~1950.

The scale of the graph, 50,000 years per unit, would not show any other period of 100 years, like the line on the right. 100 years is 1/5000 th of the distance between hash lines.

Since they use ice cores to find the co2, maybe there wouldn't be any ice when the co2 was high, according to the theory.

Or maybe the layer was very thin and beyond detection.

More like 10 pages of people who don't give a # about the world they leave to their children.

Global warming happened before, but this time, it's because of the activities of mankind. And that's something new.

Wow, I was genuinely surprised that many of the ATS viewers selected the "Not worried at all" option. Perhaps this speaks to the need for greater education or perhaps it speaks to wilful ignorance by many who are happy to shelve such issues for future generations to de-politicize and analyze. Regardless, I hope the following video featuring John Oliver and Bill Nye the Science Guy, will humourously enlighten everyone who watches it about the reality of global warming.

HBO is owned by Time Warner media (source), which is in turn a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (source).

In other words: Political tool. Not necessarily truth.

The true scientific method is to assume all theories wrong, and so far even the IPCC can't make a model whose predictions sticks to observations, they have to re-new their "predictions" to try and match the chaos of climate.

This means conspiracy theorists will believe anything as long as they have the feeling it's not the established view.

And it's kinda funny because a majority of Americans have been brainwashed into believing there is no warming, so it IS now the established view, like you can see it from the poll. So basically, if you believe there is no warming, YOU ARE THE GULLIBLE SHEEPLE!

So now, the true underdog position is to say that the global warming is true and that the oil and gas and car lobbies are trying to brainwash the population, just like they did with cigarettes back in time.

Of course the reality is that global warming is real, but its mechanism is still not perfectly understood (and no, there won't be a new ice-age in the coming years you simpletons).

Great video BTW. Really pins how stupid and gullible (and selfish) the global warming skeptics are.

It's not because we can't model what will happen in the next centuries that it denies the reality of the warming occurring NOW.

But I guess you are too deluded to even get this and prefer to jeopardize the future of your children than to think for yourself and realize all climate skeptics are shills paid by the industry.

My god, you people. "Deny ignorance" lol, and then they dispute a fact. A FACT!

So, here we all are, sat, stood, lying down wherever we are on this planet of ours, which we all know...we do not own, and we are debating what? Global warming? Climate change? Severe dire consequences? Why are we debating?

We are like firemen in a house ablaze; arguing about what caused the fire, what consequences it is going to have, seeking a consensus on these questions before we actually allow ourselves to act and put out the fire! Not only are the fire experts in debate, but the occupants of the house are in debate with their neighbour occupants debating about the wider effects, and even though there is smoke coming out the roof, some are actually denying that there is a fire at all! Wow! Everybody sees the smoke...

The debate is irrelevant: simply because it is focussed on 'proof' of 'cause' in order to 'convince' and gain a 'consensus' to 'act'. Unfortunately, the time to act has been and gone. It has passed. Nothing that we do is going to benefit us in any way. So, even though the focus has shifted, we are still debating as if it hasn't. The focus has passed what we can do to what we ought to do as preparation for the wider effects.

Long term temperate climates around the planet have lost their stability, and can now be thrown out of kilter temporarily for brief periods as the planet readjusts to the catalysts, and it is this that is the real point of the debate, the speed and scale at which temperate climates are thrown into chaos, each one is a hefty punch to the environment where they occur, bringing severe disruption to that locality (note: 'locality' can mean a whole country!). We can deal with a slow and steady decline far better than a swift and staggered one. Climate disruptions are not occurring in a nice smooth curving decline, but in jagged peaks and troughs of great intensity.

Taking temperature readings from around the planet is not going to tell us the cause of the planet's fever, only that it has a fever. Even the patient's history (held in ice cores apparently) isn't really going to show the exact same disease, just similar symptoms. The fact that large ice sheets have snapped off the Arctic and Antarctic regions and gone floating out to sea does provide evidence of warming in that area. How else does ice melt and break off?

Off course, traditionally, the ice returns in a push me /pull me circadian rhythm, but we have evidence now that the cycle is not returning to the start, but that even in winter the ice is thinning, and that glaciers around the world are receding and disappearing, turning to slush and water and heading for the seas. What seems to be occurring is that returning ice is not as dense as it was the year before. Land ice at the polar regions is melting and adding its content to the seas, with brief reprieves each winter.

Steadily, over the coming decades and perhaps, centuries, land ice will add to the level of the seas. Perhaps, it is the planet's way of making extra room for CO2 by adding volume to the sea to create greater carbon sinks? Animal life, including mankind, will be caught up in this process of the planet's adaptation, and many will experience severe hardship, and perhaps some will undergo extinction? Man will survive, he has the ability and technology to do so, but he has to act, and not party with fatalism like he doesn't give a damn...eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we all die! I suppose what we are really debating is the agreement that in regards to climate, do what you need to do, just don't touch or inconvenience my lifestyle. In that event, we will fatalistically end up doing nothing.

Man has been trying to act for quite some times now but it does seem some powerful lobbies and countries don't want anything to change, and certainly not to have to change their lifestyle. Same has been going on for fresh water, GMO, nuclear weapons.

But we all know who will suffer the most from all this and it ain't the richest countries.

This is mostly an American board so I think it's fair to remind the members here their country is playing a major role in keeping the status quo regarding the issues mentioned above.

Denial and ignorance are not excuses for inaction.

Maybe we can't do much but it's still better than being selfish and doing nothing at all.

Did anyone else notice that Germany is at 75% reliance on renewable energy sources at times? I don't have the link here but I've seen it source on a couple of reliable places.

That's real global warming action that doesn't hurt people or tax them. That's what we need to do.

The global average temperatures have risen the past decades. Hard fact.

The only thing the paid shills are skeptic about is the reason why (human cause or not? 99% of scientists claim that yes).

Maybe you should read more on the subject? Or are you one of those paid people who straight up lie about the temperature rise we experience?

Good job many around the world agree with the science and want to do something about it.
Climate change is happening but please continue putting your head in the sand and just believe in fairy ghosts instead eh?.

It's called "weather". Weather goes through cycles. The "science" has been shown to be manipulated and flat our fraudulent too often for me to give it any credence.

"Fairy ghosts"? Never heard of such a thing.

As every member, I too have my own opinion on the subject. If you're not interested in it, please skip this reply.

As for global warming, I'm not too worried about it. My belief is that it's a natural occurrence and that the earth has experienced drastic weather changes for eons prior. I do not believe it's man made, and with that thought, I do not believe there is anything we can do to stop it. From my understanding, other planets in our solar system are also experiencing similar changes which strengthens my belief that we, man, are not responsible and that it will run it's course.

And although I'm not worried about it, I am however afraid. Like many, I'm afraid of the unknown. The "what-if's" scare me. I have a child that I brought into this world, and it pains me to think that my child may grow up in a vastly different world, and not different for the better. Which leads me to part two of my opinion.

Although I do not believe we're responsible for the changes in weather across the glob, we are however responsible for treating our planet like a garbage dump. We know better, and we have known better for a few decades now. Trash doesn't magically disappear when thrown into the ocean. Nuclear waste doesn't magically disappear when we bury it deep underground.

All the chemical pollutants from power plants, manufacturing plants, and other such plants doesn't magically disappear when released into the atmosphere. Yet, we didn't care. Why? Because we're about keeping the cost of whatever product that is being produced or consumed down.

I'm a huge advocate of cleaning our act up. Recycle, reuse, cut down, make last, those are some of my core beliefs. It all starts at home, and hopefully others (companies) will clean their act up too. While I realize that some of the waste we produce must exist, I believe we should at least be doing what we can to cut it down as low as we can.

Here's two examples that upset me so much and are easy to understand when it comes to why we must change the way we do things.

1) A large cargo vessel uses crude fuel to propel itself across the ocean. This pollutes several times more DAILY then that of a car does YEARLY. Yet, we the consumer are expected to hang our heads in shame and drive less. And although it's good that we're getting alternative fuel sources for use on the home front, why should big businesses get a free card to pollute like this? To save money?

2) There's a large garbage "island" (AKA The Great Pacific Garbage Patch) which is essentially a huge conglomerate of trash that's floating around in the pacific ocean. This is OUR fault, the consumers fault.

I could list numerous gut wrenching stories like these, but I think we all get the picture. These are just two things out of many that we have to deal with. We only have one planet as of now. We're also not the only living beings on this planet.

You obviously know more about climate than the majority of climatologists. You should consider a new job?

Also funny the only scientists using the same argument as you are all paid by the energy industry.

There was a time conspiracy theorists would pick the good side in their combats. Now they just want to contradict for the sake of it.

I bet 50 years ago you would side with the doctors saying cigarettes or asbestos are totally healthy and that they had studies to prove it.

Many people care and act. No need to project. There are tons of legislations in Europe to regulate emissions of pollutants.

Even if not for ecological reasons, going for renewable energies and less polluting cars is a smart choice promoting energetic independence.

The reasons why some "don't care" as you say it's because the industry lobby is extremely powerful in the US and people want to keep driving their SUV there because it's the american way.

In europe today most people in their 20's don't even have driving licence anymore because they consider cars not cost effective and polluting.

It's clearly an ideological problem because in the US Americans hate it when they are asked to do something for others and the planet.

Most are just too selfish.

There is a huge difference between climate and weather, you admitting that you don't know this speaks volumes.

The global average tempareature has been doing dramatic ups and dramatic downs for hundreds of thousands of years. This is hard fact, not cherry-picking on Earth's last decades, but instead considering a more complete picture of the Earth's geological history.
