India’s largest warship, aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, is “operationally deployed” along with its fleet of MiG 29K combat aircraft, Navy chief Admiral Robin Dhowan said in Kochi on Wednesday

The Navy has inducted aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya which is now operationally deployed with MiG— 29K aircraft embarked and being flown by Indian naval pilots,” he told reporters.

Robin Dhowan said the first indigeneously built aircraft carrier christened INS Vikrant being built at the Cochin shipyard, will be ready for trials in 2017 and for delivery by 2018—end.

He said the force has already inducted nuclear attack submarine INS Chakra, the P—8I long range reconnaissance and anti—submarine warfare aircraft along with the Shivalik class frigates among others, he said.

INS Kolkata, Indian Navy’s most powerful warship, to be delivered next month

Last week, when an Indian Navy frigate, INS Shivalik, visited China’s Qingdao naval base, China’s navy chief, Admiral Wu Shengli, asked the captain for a tour of the Combat Information Centre, the operation heart of the warship. The Shivalik’s young skipper, Captain Puruvir Das, turned down Wu’s request.

Kolkata’s all-round capability --- against enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles and fighter aircraft --- will permit it to operate without a bevy of supporting vessels, and also to function as the flagship of a naval task force.

The two remaining destroyers of Project 15A will follow in short order. By October the second of the class, INS Kochi, is slated to be delivered. INS Chennai will follow her in mid-2015.

Project 15A will eventually cost the navy Rs 11,662 crore. At Rs 3,900 crore per destroyer, that is barely one-third what the UK’s Royal Navy has paid for its new Type-45 Daring-class destroyers --- Rs 11,000 crore per vessel.

Project 15A destroyers are also potent anti-submarine platforms. New generation HUMSA hull-mounted sonar, supplemented with the Nagan active towed array sonar --- both developed by the DRDO and built by Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) in India --- are adept at picking up enemy submarines, especially in Indian waters with their distinctive temperature gradient. The destroyer can then engage them with heavy torpedos at ranges out to 100 kilometres, or with an Indigenous Rocket Launcher (IRL) built by Larsen & Toubro.

In the wake of Project 15A, MDL has already begun the follow-on Project 15B. This involves constructing four more destroyers for Rs 29,325 crore.

And the poor get Rich when they get employed in these projects and not to mention get valuable technical experience also saves costs as compared to buying ships from other countries...

I don't know what the problem is with the poverty porn brigade , maybe its lack of education or basic reasoning abilities

You know that won't happen. The American people will be more than willing to pony up the money so the millionaires and billionaires won't have to live like the commoners. Just like we did last time.

Blockading the Malacca Straits , even though BRICS is one happy family . India and China has always seen each other differently . IN case of a conflict Malacca Straits can be blockaded to stop all supplies to China . Even though Chinese Navy is powerful . It will be unable to break the Malacca blockade considering there is a heavy military presence in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Actually of you look at the Argentina/UK Falklands war the UK aircraft carriers proved to be vital for the UK defense of those islands.

Because it belongs to the Indian Navy and not the Air force . Indian Carrier is using those Mig-29s

NO colonies , we have two offshore Islands that is considered a territory of India
Lakshadeep island chain and Andaman Nicobar Island Chain ..

One side English and one side Hindi

as per your question on Mig-29 ... All Indian navy and Air-force have writings on both Hindi and English

India has has two traditional enemies that they develop their military to counter Pakistan and China. China has as of late taken over the roll as what India sees at its primary threat.

Yup.

Its not so much the US china has to worry about, but the rising power of Indian Military.

Both are huge in terms of population. If you ask me, that continent is getting a little TOO crowded with a bunch of over bearing EGOs, with the exception of India I might add.

I would like to see the worlds largest democracy handle a dispute with china should the time arise.
