Smart wording.. bet the US law makers are drooling at the opportunity of rewording it for its own populace.

Until that actually happens, you have no basis for any backing of Russia on this.

You suddenly think mass censorship in Russia is okay because you suspect or fear that the US wants the same thing?

Mine had over 200,000 in one day this year (non political science blogger). I'd be outed in Russia.

Why would you be having a problem in Russia if you are not lying on your Blog

OR if you are merely stating your opinions,

Just like Western Propaganda regarding gays in Russia, making it seem they are oppressed, while Gay clubs are flourishing in Russia.

but hey, Russia is worst thing since cancer, if we are to believe MSM

Even if that is the case, your poll of the approval rating of Putin is a hoax with less than 0.06% of the populace actually asked for their opinion on the matter.

I think what you are saying is Hoax, there you have it, two can play that game.

Bottom line is, West is furious that Putin has high approval rating,

and west is furious that Russia is not reduced to a homeless prostitute by now.

TOO BAD

Second time you have bought up the LGBT community in this thread. You seem to be fascinated by gay people, you are either a closeted homosexual yourself which most homophobes are, or you have very little ability to argue your point without bringing up the LGBT community. I have already asked you once to stop trying to derail this thread with your own propaganda issues.

But Putin only has a high approval rating according to 1600 Russian pollsters which equates to 0.06% of the population. I don't think the West really should be mithered by such a silly poll do you?

Whilst I do think Putin is at times a great statesman and is currently running rings around the West, i am more worried what an ex KGB man is capable of doing if things don't go his way.

Who decides what the "lie" is?
These laws being pushed through in Russia rely on state opinion, meaning that any accusation made against the government can be called a lie and the site shut down and those involved arrested.

It's interesting to me that on a site like ATS, where freedom of opinion and your right to speculate is paramount, people here selectively support mass censorship.

Like the largest gay club in Moscow being fire bombed, gassed, shot at and eventually closing down this year because they were getting absolutely NO support from the police after these regular attacks?

Like the hundreds of examples of videos put up and shared throughout fascist groups on the VK social network, where people have been kidnapped, abused, tortured and raped on camera, with the police again doing NOTHING to investigate these crimes?

You clearly have no clue what is actually happening to LGBT people in Russia.

www.informationclearinghouse.info...
Paul Craig Roberts writes "Professor Martin Gilens at Princeton University and Professor Benjamin Page of Northwestern University have examined American governance and have concluded that the US is an oligarchy ruled by powerful rich private interest groups and that the US government has only a superficial resemblance to a democracy. Their analysis is forthcoming in publication in the journal, Perspectives on Politics.

Their conclusions are striking:"

“The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on US government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.”
“When a majority of citizens disagrees with economic elites and/or with organized interests, they generally lose.”

“In the United States, our findings indicate that the majority does not rule–at least not in the causal sense of actually determining policy outcomes.”
“The preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.”

Given the fact that the US does not have a law such as the one Putin is making doesn't mean he might be right in doing so .Russia is different from the US and they got to do what they will do .If you consider that PCR is correct then a law to suppress or at least make them accountable to the truth seems like a good idea .The US people can say what ever they want weather true or not and it does not effect the Govt. Policy anyway .

Oh noes! Having to take personal responsibility for the accuracy and veracity of the information in your blog! PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY! The end of the world!!!

Lets face it, if you are honest, and your information is accurate and factual, as it SHOULD be, then this law won't cause any problems anyway. The people who are objecting to this law, I worry about, because.. Well, are you posting inaccurate informations?

Let me spell it out to people what's happening.

Western Powers, US mainly, tried to topple Russian Putin government some time ago, by heavily sponsoring NGO groups. They tried a Russian colored revolution.

It Failed.

Putin responded by banning ALL FOREIGN financial support for NGO groups and other media organizations.

If you want to bitch about Russian government, you had to do it on your own time and your own money, no more sweet US dollars for your patriotism

So what is happening now, because of continuation of Western Propaganda, new law will force a blogger to prove what he is saying,

If you are saying you don't like Putin, and that he is crap, you are welcome to your opinion.

But if you are saying Putin is killing russians or stealing billions or drinking human blood, etc. Then you need to prove it. (though people are getting easily away with it by adding "may" such as, Putin may have killed 1 million russians etc, by adding "may" you are leaving room for being wrong)

I will remind you, that Putin has 70% approval rating, for a large country that is a big deal. If that rating slips, he is going to have to allow more relaxed rules. But for now, people like their country the way it is.

Also NO GAY AGENDA, NO GAY PROPAGANDA

To bad for Western Bankers, they really like to screw other countries with Gay and Lesbian groups, and with Drugs too.

That half ass twisted back thinking is concerning; Propaganda around the board, people are

Read the previous replies. The STATE will determine the truth is what this comes down to. RUSSIA will censor anything that does not tow the party line with this law. Is it that hard to grasp this?

No I am afraid YOU don't get it.

If you post that you think or in your opinion, Putin was sucking your blood at night in your bedroom. That is fine.

But you can't say

PUTIN WAS INDEED SUCKING MY BLOOD AT NIGHT, you need pictures in that case.

You people are just ticked off Russia won't allow western propaganda which costs Billions, to destroy Russia.

Russians used to be stupid drunks, while America laughed, that is no longer the case.

I have read some of your published articles on a variety of issues and have often visited the website that you work for, however I must say you seem to be very one sided on this debate with regards to Russia as if you’re wearing rose tinted glasses. What has Russia done for you that your homeland has not?

I agree that the west has for to long tried to interfere with the internal affairs of both Russia and China, but you also must see that Russia is not the “promised land” either. Yes both the US and EU Governments should keep out the internal affairs of other countries, but with the recent study from the US the government has little or no power anyway. So surely that would mean the elitist are to blame rather than the countrymen of either the US or EU.

That being said, I humbly do not agree with your opinions on this thread, I have noted that you have clearly reminded fellow ATS members of your stance in this whole Russian debate, but if I could draw your attention back to the original OP which also included other countries around the World that also have similar practices. I also went on to say that we have the same practices taking place both in the UK and US with the NSA and GHCQ. However you seem to be so narrow minded on the aspect that Russia can do no wrong that its not worth discussing this point with you any further.

wow wow man

you have me confused with someone, I have no articles, I don't publish, I started few ATS threads and the thread that I am extremely proud of and tells you who I am is the first thread I made on ATS.

Called.......Radiation and Cancer, you don't have to die, I didn't.

So then, is it fair to say you don't believe a government would or could manipulate a law for the purpose of controlling information in some form or another? FYI, I have no dog in this fight. I'm just curious.

Then that is my mistake and someone with the same screen name is also very passionate about this topic on other alternative websites.

However the remainder of my last post still stands.

Interesting to say the least. I think the law is good ans vad, morons on the net with large followings DO need to be more responsible with what they post IMO but it is definitely a slippery slope this one.

If the Russian people do not protest it, who are we to? As the poster under the OP said, I think many in the west hate Russia and russians so much simply because they do noy thinknlike westerners and they will not allow their views to be swayed.

Related to this, Livejournal, which was bought and is now operated by a media company with close ties to the Kremlin, and has become the most popular blogging platform in Russia, a month or so ago shifted from open source to closed source code.

No prizes for guessing why that might have been, and what tools for spying on users they will be busily introducing.

Putin gets a lot right, doesn't he?

I wonder why he needs to use secret police then? No telling if he actually did, I guess. Could be just another statue of Saddam toppling over, now couldn't it?

No wonder they ban our websites lmao I would too. The US has the most effective psy ops in the world. Not that Mr. Ex-KGB was any better. Maybe he has recently repented of his sins? Doubt it, he is probably still just as intent on world domination as the central banks are, but it is possible.

The back and forth here over how popular Putin really is reminds me of Kim Jong Un's recent "election" where they said there was a 100% turnout and 100% of the people voted for him.

This is because Putin is a Christian, and knows his prophecies
(Daniel 2:31-34) 31 “You, O king, were watching, and you saw an immense image. That image, which was huge and extremely bright, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was terrifying. 32 The head of that image was of fine gold, its chest and its arms were of silver, its abdomen and its thighs were of copper, 33 its legs were of iron, and its feet were partly of iron and partly of clay. 34 You looked on until a stone was cut out, not by hands, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and of clay and crushed them. . .
The feet are the last kingdoms that stand before the the final destruction coming to mans kingdom's

Describing the mixture of iron and clay as one “kingdom,” The clay, therefore, “the offspring of mankind,” or the common
people.

The common people undermine the ability of the World Powers to act with ironlike strength.

Therefore, they must not be allowed to communicate freely, kinda like at the tower of babel: (Genesis 11:6) . . .“Look! They are one people with one language, and this is what they have started to do. Now there is nothing that they may have in mind to do that will be impossible for them. . .
We have one language once again, the internet has put the common man in a postion as never before

And Putin knows to keep his power, he must control it.
