When I joined ATS, I was given a list of 4 rules to go by here

rule #1 - wear tin-foil hard hat at all times
rule #2 - do not feed bacon to the trolls
rule #3 - keep salt shaker handy
rule #4 - coffee goes in the mouth, not on the screen or keyboard

I've just broken #4.

J

ETA: rule #5 - never touch food labeled Springer or SkepticOverlord in the fridge at ATS Headquarters.

Try putting yourself in their shoes, you bleed for a week straight and have everything in the world working against you for a week and a half, every month. It's a nightmare.

This thread has garnered many interesting reactions.

Many of which seem to wish to spread the pain, which is perhaps a turn on the idea of spreading the wealth..

I have actually had several of the women in my life say that they wished they could just go into hibernation, or something, for that week. But I see the same suggestion here, albiet worded as a fun joke of sorts (perhaps not the best idea), and people immediately suggest its actually a better solution for men to ALSO experience it every month.

People are strange.

Oh, and candlestick is from a very different culture, and actually starts communicating rather well if one doesnt just approach with outright aggression. Hard to do when its reciprocal, definitely, but it is what it is.

All that said, I think it would probably be a better idea to use resources to minimize suffering during this period (pun intended), rather than trying to introduce more suffering and pain into the world. We already have plenty of it.

This is indeed a very interesting thread and I show up late as usual. You mention spreading the pain as spreading the wealth but I'm not sure that's the intent. It seems to come with the idea that those who do not experience menstruation directly tend to underestimate the effect it has on the body and the mind. As we saw in the videos posted earlier when those two brave men agreed to go through a simulation of the pain of childbirth, it's not taken very seriously until it can be actually felt.

Another thing I wanted to add is that many many cultures have and do separate the menstruating females from the tasks of daily life and many still are separated from the house each month. In parts of Nepal for example they are sent to stay either outside in small makeshift shelters, sheds and often times are left to themselves in the elements. There is a movement to end this practice but some still prefer this tradition.

In my neck of the woods, the pacific northwest of California, the Yurok people have a similar practice but it is a time of ceremony and is seen as a time of great power. It was explained to me by a friend that they can focus on the spirit without being hassled by advances of the opposite sex. So this idea or a need to be left alone is not new and most definitely shared by cultures all over the world, it may just be an instinct that does not fit in with our industrialized schedules of life.

I, thank goodness no longer have to worry, one of the bonuses of being a cancer survivor, but I would have loved a monthly vacation.

I understand its a nightmare Jenny, trust me lol.

This was thread was light-hearted, i knew it would generate discussions, clearly what i said was a load of bollox. It was just humor..well my humor anyway

10 minutes prior to the creation of this thread, our lass flipped her lid for a few split seconds which is what made me write this up, in reflection of all the times the ladies in my life go through this crazy cycle.

I'v been posting here for 6 years now, and people still don't get me lol. If i ever comment or make a thread, its either sarcastic or trolling a troll and when I'm not posting, I'm in awe by candlestick's sheer brilliance at cherry picking single words and adding them together to get a completely different point of view than 99.99% of people on these boards.

Thank you for pointing that out. I have found I can learn a lot from Candelstick, if you can deny ignorance for a second and keep the different culture and native language in mind.
