I think they were low threat environments to the aircraft running sorties due to the lack of radar and integrated anti aircraft coverage. Iraq had that at one time but that was before the first gulf war.
High threat environments have advanced radar coverage with networked anti aircraft weapons.

The "skin" of the aircraft would be the structural outer layer of the airplane. What in normal aircraft would be the aluminum that separates the interior of the aircraft from the exterior.
In advance airframes that can be a combination of many different materials and alloys that are then coated with different materials that further help it reduce it's signature in the desired EM range.

It's low threat because Iraq doesn't have any fighter jets trying to take theirs out of the sky, the ones that did go up at the start of the war came down pretty quickly after, the F-117's came in along with EF-111's (if you inclined to believe the official story) and bombed most of the radar installations and SEAD missions destroyed most of the ground to air defenses with HARM missiles. F-15's took out most of the aircraft that came up that night, Sadam buried the rest.

The metamaterial skin would go on over the body, it's like sheets if that makes sense. There's a documentary on the F-35vsX-32 which shows how RAM skin is applied.

Is it the EF-111's you are not inclined to believe? Again I am new to the subject and I know I have seen pics of the F117's so those are real I guess. I am extremely interested in this thread and topic if you could explain I would greatly appreciate it.

Also thanks for the explanations on threat and skins. I will watch that documentary for sure, I have read RAM so many times in this thread I am dying to see it on video.

Doubt it, it's been classified since the time of the F-117 without too many people knowing about it.

Yeah it's the EF-111's I'm not inclined to believe, there's no point sending a non stealthy jet with an F-117, a few pages back we were talking about the actual jet that flew in with the F-117 that night, the one that has a recording of it talking to F-117s on the dark web.

EF-111s? Yeah OK...that's a brilliant idea! Let's send in the stealths and use these as decoys? Lol that right there should tell you something

One Sparkvark did get a kill In the first few days of desert storm though lol with no air to air missiles it did a few evasive manovours and the other jet crashed into the ground.

I see, that makes sense that it would be unlikely to send in a non stealth plane. Yeah I remember the post about the recording of the communication you mentioned. I gathered it was a classified air craft that only people involved in the operations know about?

Well at least you guys got it, I'd look like a twit if you didn't!

There's a purported photo of this F117 companion getting about, no doubt you've seen it, looks like it's taken from behind as it's taking off at night?

Is it real?

Can I post it?

Not sure as to the reality. But be careful about posting stuff like that. Theoretically if you're not under an NDA about the program, you're ok if you do.

Long time lurker, first time poster

I am truly fascinated reading this thread (and others on this aircraft projects forum). I almost can't believe an airplane that has seen active service for about 25 years and has probably been seen by thousands is still not known to the general public and no clear photo's of it have ever been published.

This kind of thing always reminds me of the quote by Ben Franklin: "Three may keep a Secret, if two of them are dead."

Any chance somebody could give a hint as to where to look for this elusive photograph

Ok found the pic..it's hosted on rense.com, so maybe it's a fake, and almost certainly not top secret :/
