What if a Russian war ship was in nearby US waters? Or near a country we were "spreading freedom"? I am not supporting Russia invading the Ukraine, though it seems like a large number of the people of that land are not opposed to joining Russia. We just LOVE getting involved in everything. Sadly, one day we will be spread too thin to protect our own. There are much worse things going on in this world and the US government could give two steamy logs.

This is exactly what I've been thinking. To put it in perspective, if a Russian war ship of some sort was hanging out close to or in our waters, I'm sure we'd be all over it.

Your "If" isn't and wouldn't ever happen. US pilot's treat their aircraft much how you are suppose to treat a gun: Never point at something you don't intend to shoot. When we do shoot, it isn't up close either, but rather miles away. Anyone with a ship that could park next to US knows this and we know they know this. Since the dawn of the Cold War Russia has always used this type of provocation to test us. Whether it was their Bombers approaching Alaska or their subs near our fleet/coast this is typical USSR tactics. And if it was a maverick " Fly Boy" then it only proves how completely unprofessional their military is, or the pilot was ordered to harass and that is why this was a provocation.

There have been times the US has used reconnaissance air craft too close to China or others, but to buzz a war ship with a fighter plane was begging the US to pluck it out of the sky.

What makes you think that Russian warships haven't been parked off the US coasts before? The Navy watches them with P-3s, which are NOT going to be doing something like this whole watching them.

What makes you think i think they haven't ?

And i highly doubt it was under circumstances like we see with russia and Ukraine...

US has an agreement to protect Ukraine ,Russia knows this. Us parks warship in Russia's back yard during critical times . US gets butt hurt because some russian maverick pilot does 12 passes ...........

....give me a break ....

Correction, US MEDIA gets butt hurt. The only people freaking out over this are the media and people that don't know better. The military MIGHT file a protest for the way he flew near the ship, but I doubt it. They stopped doing that years ago.

The media are idiots that think this sorry if thing is rare. They also reported that two Russian bombers flew over Guam armed with nuclear weapons.

You make some valid points. Russian armed troops were present as a means to influence the vote and probably filled out the voting ballots. This is nothing new in Soviet style elections, which is exactly what we saw in Crimea.

I think Russia annexed Ukraine simply for access to the Black Sea, since with the exception of the Arctic region, Russia is essentiallhy land locked, with little or no access or channels to the Sea, and so they likely viewed access to the Black Sea as a vital interest for their Navy.

China is another ballgame altogether. They are a rising economic power, and their military spending is advancing at a record pace, which I am certain has many concerned for a number of reasons.

I also have my concerns over a potential China-Russian alliance that would be designed to damage, and potentially destroy the U.S Dollar as the world's reserve currency.

I totally agree with you on your points about america being the only super power but if you think that one ship parked on the border of Russia would survive an attack from multiple land based missle salvo's then you are dreaming. Its one ship, and very awesome ship yes, but it is still one ship.

I would expect that if this ship did shoot down the recon Su-24R, there would have been a response.

If america did wipe out Russia, I'd expect that none of us here would be still posting as both sides would have nothing to lose and nothing left.

I don't think the U.S. would " wipe out" Russia. My point was that if there were a conventional military battle or confrontation, the U.S. would easily prevail. A nuclear exchange, I agree...nobody wins.

Yep, history says nothing new. Remember the Russian sub the the Gulf of Mexico - predicted WWIII still on hold.

Does the US own that part of the sea? Or air space? sounds like FUX news is trying to make a Mountain out of a mole hill..

wish we had Access to record on how many times US drones violated "air space"

Just saying....

No, they don't own that part of the sea, but all naval ships are surrounded by a no fly zone. You DO NOT fly anywhere near them, it's damn near an act of war.

It's a wonder the ships Capt. didn't blow it out of the sky. He had reason for sure. I wonder if that pilot, no, I know that pilot knew he was putting himself and his plane in great danger. US war ships are nothing to fool with. They got lucky IMO.

More like the US got lucky they didn't shoot it down. Both sides in this knew what was going on.

Forget the Gulf of Mexico, we've had Soviet and then post 1991, Russian subs in the Puget Sound. No WWIII then either.

This. The only warm water port accessible to the Russians is the Black Sea. It is an essential strategic asset for them to hold on to and that is what this is all about, plain and simple. They want to take over Ukraine for this exact purpose. It would be like us invading...Oh, I dunno, Panama to take over the canal and then saying we were helping free "ethnic Americans." Of course, since we built the damned thing, we would have more claim on it than the Russians have on the Crimean peninsula, but that's another discussion.

Bankers made the Soviet union invade and take over the Baltic states and half of Poland?

I'm guessing that you blame everything evil in the world on the bankers, emirate?

Yep. They caused the depression which hit Europe as hard as it did the States. Guess who rose out of that morass in Germany, attacked the Whole continent of Europe and SovietUnion? Thats what made the Russians conquer it back… the National Socialists (Nazis) under Adolf Hitler.

Riiight...and the aftermath of the German defeat in WWI had nothing to do with it? Hear about this thing called "The Treaty of Versailles?"

Ever hear of the Molotov-Ribbontrop Pact?" That is where the Soviets and the Nazis agreed to divide up Poland and Eastern Europe. In 1939 Hitler invaded Poland from the West, Stalin invaded Poland from the East.

Germany also invaded the Czechs and invaded the Sudetenland. Russia got the Baltics as part oft he deal as well as half of Poland and then started after Finland.

I wasn't talking about the Soviets "conquering it back," I was talking about the Soviet invasions in cahoots with the Nazis that started it all. It seems you, as most people, are not aware of this fact of history.

Doesn't "provoke" literally mean that the U.S. warship or whatever responded aggressively with some kind of force ?.

I believe a more accurate description of what supposedly transpired would be " Russian aircraft Harasses U.S. warship without any effect".
