For those who never stop vilifying guns.

Just remember this:

Our politicians,
Our congressman,
Our president.

Hide behind people with guns.

Why is it good enough for them, but not us?

Gun ownership is the epitome of what equality is.

Everyone has the right to own them.

As Samuel Colt once said,

God made man, Colt made them equal.

So people with guns have saved six lives. Thats twice as many as were killed by the Boston terrorist attack, so I'm sure MSNBC and CNN will give this story twice the attention as the bombing.

I'm a Chicagoan, and It was not concealed carry that dropped the murder rate, it was winter. A brutal, record setting winter with 26 days of sub-zero weather, and the second highest snowfall in 150 years. Gang-bangers don't like the cold.

I don't even think that any concealed carry permits have actually been issued yet, my understanding is that those permits are just now finally starting to be issued by the state police...it does take time to deal with all those applications.

That being said, I think we will indeed find a decrease in crime over the next few years due to the new concealed carry law, but this drop was definitely not a result of the new law.

I just wanted to add to the Americans who think having guns make your life safer. I have never heard a gunshot in my entire life, I can walk about my entire city without the fear of being shot, mugged or harmed in anyway, I know no-one who has ever been killed at the hands of a weapon whether knife, gun or whatever.

To quote the great Mr. Bale. Oh, good for you.

Anecdotal stories can be answered with like:

I live in a fairly safe place too, or at least until this past year when a women was stabbed to death in her home during a robbery.

Guess what? That is not ever going to happen to me. NEVER.

I pray every night.

I am safe. My family is safe. In the name of the Sig. The Windham. And the Desert Eagle. Amen.

while i agree the unarmed world like say palistein is not doing so well against oppression by heavily armed totalitarians
i just though id through a monkey wrench of fact into the rest of your post

BTW when Russia steamrolls Europe like Germany did, I would bet they wished they had guns.... Oh I forgot, that could never happen today...my bad. -

New Ukraine Government to Citizens – Turn in Your Guns by Friday

gunssavelives.net...

It is not a monkey wrench...this is what happens every time oppression wants to take over. We seen it over and over in the past...disarm the general population first and you can do anything you want with them after that.

mugger
While it is good news that these citizens can finally exercise their 2nd amendment rights, the article is a bit misleading.
The first concealed carry permits were issued in late February, so the decrease in crime can’t yet be attributed to more people carrying guns. I'm sure in time, we will have a better record of how this pans out.

It was the mass fear and panic by the petty criminals.

They're dumb, but they knew what was going to happen, and they were also scared some people might take things into their own hands ahead of time.

I know this. I live here.

And a very good friend of mine is a Chicago Cop.

The police saw a difference right away.

And of course, many criminals didn't actually know when the CCW law was going into effect.

Rumors were all around that it was immediate.

Like I said, the petty criminals aren't that smart. They don't pay attention to laws anyway.

Thats what you think. The vast majority of criminals are VERY smart especially when you mention the organizations in Chicago.

Majority of crimes in Chicago are gang/mob related. These people know the other person has a gun and that does not prevent them from handling their business.

I think everyone should have a weapon to protect themselves against government or their numbers. But anyone who thinks that having a concealed weapon is going to prevent someone from committing a crime is delusional.

Sorry but that is the reality of today, gun ownership is only viable protection for citizens against citizens.

There are a few big reasons why Russia and China would not invade the US. One is we are isolated and it would take a huge effort to get a foothold on our soil, and the other is everyone owns a gun or two or 10....Think of 5000 Russian paratroopers going into East LA...they never make it out alive.

Not too fast about rolling on your belly and baring your throat over Government tyranny. Remember we are 50 united state not a democracy, and so that is 50 different countries and if the time came for another civil war type scenario the civilian stockpile would have an effect.

Why not? You've got someone who lives in Chicago, who says that it seems to indeed be the case, his source is apparently the cops on the streets of Chicago...

When news of this rule change took place, or was being considered, who do you suppose were first to find out? The cops. ...and might they have not "accidentally" let that leak out to the streets?

I can easily see that happening. What do criminals, who steal for a living from other peoples homes, fear the most? An armed, and trained, homeowner. Cops don't really want to shoot him...too much paperwork. The homeowner might not be so minded.

What does a mugger fear the most? An armed victim, who really doesn't feel like being a victim, and is willing to defend himself/herself.

A new CCW permit law puts that little nugget of apprehension into the bad guys mind... Is that old man armed? Is that woman armed? Maybe I shouldn't try.

God I love it when people say this...

Do you honestly think that most americans, those willing to fight this hypothetical tyranny, would be waiting in a defenseless compound for the gov't to roll over them in tanks/APC's? Waco was run by a mad man, a delusional wanna be messiah.

Those American's are not mad men, or women...

I'm here to tell you No they wouldn't be. They'd be in the hills. They'd be in the forests. They'd be in the sewers. Underground. Out of sight...

Something else to ponder, as well...

Many, many of them would be military veterans with combat experience in places like Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Where they learned the hard way about guerrilla warfare. ...and they can teach others, too. How to hide. How to shoot. How to survive.

Anyone thinking it would be easy for the govt needs to rethink that position.

What you say is so true Seagull. In my rural neck of the woods, owning a gun is no different than having a jar of peanut butter in the cabinet. You just assume every home has at least one. Between the hunters, and collectors of what Daddy passed down to them, I'll say there are more guns than people. Do we have crime up here...not really. A few vacation cabins broken into during the winter when they are vacant is about it.

But, I do remember about 15 years ago, a couple of brothers in their early 20's, bad guys at heart, with a long criminal history of violence and mayhem. decided they would rob 2 old maid sisters, in their 80's. Thought they'd be easy targets, as one was in a wheelchair and the other took care of her. Church going old ladies who lived alone off the beaten path. Those boys were dead wrong in their assumptions.

Upon breaking in a back window thinking they could intimidate the 2 old sisters, they were greeted in the family room by 2 armed old ladies, the one in the wheelchair actually shot the private parts off one of the brothers, the other held them both at gunpoint until the sheriffs, about an hour away, made it to their home to rescue the would be thieves. I remember one quote by one officer, the 2 brothers were crying with relief when they arrived because the 2 sisters were arguing about whether to shoot the other brother too.

Robbers are cowards at heart. They prey on people they think they can without getting harmed themselves. Armed citizens level the playing field.

It seems you are all for 'those people' dying faster. Please keep your head deeply rooted in the proverbial sand. It will keep your non-reality based thoughts away from the people.

When we look at WWII, Germany basically rolled across Europe and you are suggesting that could never happen again.

Taken entirely out of context. The Reich had far superior weapons and machinery along with highly indoctrinated superbly trained solders using the element of surprise and a brilliant propaganda saturation.

Every single Frenchman could have been carrying an assault rifle and it would not even slowed the Wehrmacht down.

Wouldnt have mattered either way.. the French would have laid down regardless... their French.

If you really wanted to stop people getting killed then end poverty. I'll say it again. You have to end poverty. You're letting it happen.

Until you stop poverty...and I'm sure you must have the answer on to how to do it...I'll keep my private firearms to protect myself.

As I don't see poverty ending in my lifetime.

Never underestimate the power of the human spirit to find a way out of this flesh trap. Reminds me of the saying the spirit is ready but the flesh is weak. It is awesome that murder y gun rates are falling but they will just find new ways to die.

Every time a gun thread comes up I think to myself how many Euro's, and others foreign alien folk, have no clue what the U.S. has going on within it's borders.

Ain't no comparison between Euroland and US of A.

Ain't no way I'll be unarmed in these lawless times.

Millions of illegals, drugs running rampant, gangs of every color, a murderous government, mass shootings by crazed loonies, knifin's, stabbin's, robbin's, jack booted police, roving bands of blacks, crazy right wing christian religious fanatics, skinheads, irish, greeks, muslims, nazis, medicated psychos every where you turn, all of 'em potentially armed, legal or not, gun smugglin', liquor, weed, crackheads, meth freaks, good lord, you'd be a fool to walk around unarmed.

Facts on the ground in Chicago are proven over and over in the US of A, only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is when a good guy with a gun shows up.

Wow. It must be Hell living in constant fright, terrified of your sorroundings 24/7. Accute paranoia and fear of EVERYTHING should be classified as a mental disorder and treated as such. Hope you get treatment one day and balance your life a bit before you shoot someone in a sudden panic attack.

-------------------------------------------

He is not mental or even close. I live near a major city in the US and I am on alert all the time. Never go out at night by myself and watch everyone. I don't own a gun but lived here long enough to not get myself in a bad situation. I just had a situation in the Wal-Mart about who was in line. This guy ask me where the line was I said the behind the people behind me as they opened up another line he jumped in. Where everyone behind should of had been able to chose a line they wanted in. He jumped in line of everyone, I smelled alcohol and let it go.

As a long time Chicago resident (been here my whole life) I can say that any "murder rate" figures should be ignored until the weather warms up. Knowing that we had one of the worst winters in a very long time there is no surprise that the murder rate has been low recently. But once the weather heats up and we near the summer months we will be seeing the figures climb crazy...

To give you an idea, 14 people were shot in the city of Chicago last night... As a resident of Chicago I would say that the problem is still very real...

I will stop poverty. It could end tomorrow, as soon as people decide "no one should have to go without basic needs" it's not hard, you just don't want poverty to stop yet. Do you? Otherwise all your time and effort would be spent on that.

For those who've replied to my post concerning the idea that the really bad weather in Chicago may have had more to do with the drop in violence than CCW permits, I ask that you read the rest of the post. I am a supporter of CCW permits and I have a firm belief that this measure will cause the violent crime rate to drop dramatically. I only feel that proclaiming that the reason that the crime rate has dropped only because of the CCW law may be a bit premature. It will show a significant drop, especially as the weather warms up and the gangs take to the streets once again. There will still be the gang on gang shootings but, based on other states and cities that have gone from a gun free zone to CCW, the rate WILL drop.

It's all attributed to the weather and not because people are carrying weapons and to think otherwise is plain stupid. I live here, I understand how cold weather = not a lot of murders, but when the hot spring/summer days roll around we will be seeing LOADS of murders and shootings... Like I replied with in my earlier post, 14 people were shot in Chicago last night...
