The entire gun law debate is defused by a simple statement may of you have heard before.

If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

If someone is going to use a gun to commit a crime they don't stop and consider the law before they do it!

Something needs to be done, do you disagree

Yes I agree.

There's already laws.

What else can we do?

And just who can we trust?

Should we ban all weapons?

Who gets to enforce?

I think the gun control enthusiasts are going about this all wrong.

They try the "muskets" argument and that gets blown out of the water.

They try the "militia only" argument and it just highlights their lack of reading comprehension skills.

They try the "reasonable restrictions" argument and that gets shot down.

Each time, they run into that pesky 2nd Amendment. So here's an idea: use the 2nd Amendment to your advantage. The 2nd Amendment guarantees the people the right to keep and bear arms. It doesn't say anything about the government's right to keep or bear arms. Want to ban "assault" rifles? Ban the police from having them. Law enforcement has no Constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms. Arm the Secret Service with muskets. Limit the FBI, CIA, NSA, and ATF to six-shot revolvers.

When you are successful at taking away guns from those that have no Constitutional right to have them, then try to take them away from the people that do.

I live in a foreign country

and there you have it.....

there are a few on here from other countries that understand and agree with how we do things here regarding guns but the majority have no clue and try to force a world view on Americans that simply will never be adopted. Personal responsibility and unalienable rights are a tough to swallow for folks who don't have that paradigm.

You are dead wrong on your assessment of the 2nd Amendment. This right is there in order to serve as the final check & balance against tyrannical actions by government - not to allow farmer Bob to putz around taking pot shots at rabbits with a muzzle loader.

....And the second amendment argument is null and void. they said you could own muskets to defend your state, not self aiming snipers that can kill you from 1000 plus yards

I think restrictions on people are in place. A crazy person should have no place around guns, yet it keeps happening Something needs to change. But it likely never will, the NRA and gun nuts wont budge, they bully people into making decisions and it needs to stop.

We need change

This is where the OP lost me. First, most of us are not "gun nuts" we are law-abiding citizens that understand and cherish our God-given rights to freedom and defense of freedom in the face of authoritarianism and tyranny. When you say we need change, you're trying to tell me that you know better how to protect myself or my family when it is I, the individual that reserves that right. This is why we won't budge and it's why we will NEVER compromise in the face of anti-gun rhetoric.

Second, you show me exactly where it states in the Bill of Rights that we "could own muskets" to defend one's state. By your logic, the First would be null and void as they didn't have mass media or the Internet back then either. The Second is not null and void and, in fact, more applicable now than ever. Ask yourself why it's the Second and not the ninth or tenth. The Founders understood the importance of this amendment and what it meant as a right of the people.

We have over 20,000 gun laws on the books and none of them have stopped these massacres because: 1) bad guys don't follow laws and 2) the laws we have aren't enforced.

Finally, you show me ANY "gun-free zone" in this country and I'll show you a place just begging for a shooting rampage. Why do these wackos attack "gun-free zones" almost every time but don't walk into gun shows or police stations and unleash their fury? Ask yourself why that is. Could it be that the "gun-free zone" thinking is completely ass-backwards?

First off, are you a US citizen??

Secondly, do you understand what the 2nd Amendment entails?

Third, Laws have never stopped criminals. What on God's green earth makes anyone think that banning something will stop criminal behavior?

gun nuts

Ummm...To be quite frank...Who the HELL do you think you are?

Why do you get to post inflammatory rhetoric that disparages entire societies and by extension.....ME...not to mention, the majority of people on this site...those I would call friend

Why do you get to call me names...spurn my beliefs...Insult me...threaten me and mine...

You lost whatever creditability you might have thought you had with those two words...How dare you...

Thankfully I'm not a moderator on this site...and not willing to return the denigration favor...

Perhaps you should...man up...and offer us an apology...and we can continue to agree to disagree.

This thread should be canned...as it's left a
taste in my mouth

Let me say what others here may not. I would leave this country if the government tries to take our legal guns. Sure...I own one for home and family protection, but I would leave because I DO NOT TRUST OUR GOVERNMENT. Not one bit, not one word. It is ALL lies and they are completely about power and control. If they can take our guns...they can take anything. Money, freedom and life...at least as I know it.

I don't trust our government to rule us as king or god. Do you?

OP. There is no debate here. If you do not like american laws do not come, visit or spend money here.

Your opinion has been weighed measured and has been found lacking. NO offense of course its just a cool line. Still this is where other peoples fail to realise the second is quite clear. It does not allow room for debate. it just is. Its like gravity it just is.

I understand where you're coming from but leaving is not an option for me. Not because I can't but because I won't. If the US is to fall then wherever you may go will soon be next. The fight against totalitarianism needs to happen here or it will never be fought anywhere else ever again. The Founders, in their infinite wisdom, gave us the instruments with which to preserve our freedoms and I and millions of others fully intend to use them....or die trying.

The Gun Debate

If I`m the one with the gun, then there's no debate.

A crazy person should have no place around guns, yet it keeps happening Something needs to change. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Should we also put restrictions on Subways, Trains, Planes, Cars, Kitchen Knives and Computers because crazy people could use them for bad things? Wouldnt that be kind of Idiosonic?

That is the gun debate in a nutshell.

The one holding the gun there is no debates.

Which is why there should be no gun debate.

Because they are trying to make that scenario with Government being the only one with a gun.

This guy is absolutely right. SOMETHING needs to be done about what's happening. We should probably start by repealing the unconstitutional gun laws that take away citizen's & soldier's right to bear arms. When you disarm the populace and leave them unable to defend themselves against the wills of madmen, society suffers.

Fort hood massacre #1: Oh no, they couldn't defend themselves because of stupid laws?
Fort hood massacre #2: WHY ARE THEY STILL UNARMED?

There are far, far to many immature and reckless people who should not own one yet still do. - See more at: www.abovetopsecret.com...

And why is that?
Didn't have these issues a decade or two ago, now did we?

Perhaps your statement could be shortened to just "There are far, far to many immature and reckless people."
Period.
That would explain a lot more.

Clearly, we should just ban people, since we're all bastards anyway.

Because soldiers can only be 'trusted' when they are thousands of miles away fighting the wars those politician's start.

When they come home the get treated like a red headed step child like the rest of us.

That can't be 'trusted'.

I always wondered what the debate was over....

Are we debating as to how to limit an evil, carnivore, eat other species into extinction, top of the food chain species from killing or is it just over guns?

Yes we should ban guns and go back to the good old days ! Bows ,spears ,swords ,axes, knives, clubs etc much more fun ,skill involved ,dont need a licence ,a good way to get your agro out of your system ! wheres the fun in merely pulling a trigger ? wheres the adrenalin burnoff ? killing was always popular, especially in the old days ,having a Duel with someone was Legal ,and i can think of at least one person i would like to return the complement, for stealing my girlfriend underhandedly and getting her pregnant ! yep they were the good old days
