China is developing advanced capabilities to deny the US access to the Pacific. The days of just sending a carrier to scare a potential adversary are slowly going the way of the mighty vessels we called battleships in yesteryear. Its time Washington take a new approach to military power. America can retain its advantage militarily, here is how:

I suppose we could arm the Japanese and Taiwanese, and the Australian and Phillipine forces with better arms than they currently field as a stopgap as well.....pitting China against the US is hardly what will be the outcome of the current Chinese arms buildup....
Our allies need to be strengthened as a deterrent as well....no?

Are we at war with China?

Why do we need military dominance over the whole globe?

Do you think we're in danger of being invaded or something?

All valid criticisms of the way we operate our defense department. The comments are also valid to some extent, continually filling a barrel with a hole in it isn't good policy.

All thats needed is that theres enough presence to deter anything stupid, it worked in the cold war with the Russians as both sides knew what actually doing something daft would do and i'm sure China does as well so as in any willy wanging contest its not just the US its the US+NATO+allied forces in the area which will make anyone think twice

This report sounds like a "lets pump a few hundred billion extra into the navy" for my pet project report

China is in no rush to fight anyone face to face as its military is well under par at the moment and true its getting better it'll take it probably 20-30 years minimum to reach the level of the US and by which point naturally thing will have moved on and if anything its working on a simple policy of for every dollar it spends of the military the paranoid people in the US will spend 100 and by the time they realise it everything they own will be property of China anyway

Here is a list of Nations without a military

Countires without an armed force

When was the last time you heard of their women and children being blown to pieces?

Also Iceland have no standing army, they have no need to spread death to other nations.
They simply want to protect their lands from nations that do want to murder others *cough* US *cough*.

Not yet

That's what happens when you get weak, as history shows countless times

China makes no bones about challenging the US in an "Unrestricted War" and seek to dominate the region with threatening rhetoric towards its neighbours Taiwan, Japan, Philippines etc etc

This is common knowledge tho I'm sure you're aware ?

You have to understand that the US is the target just like the champ is in any sport, Everybody wants that belt and if you want to hold onto it you have to defend it, maintaining dominance at sea specifically in the pacific and surrounding seas is a first line of defence, once you lose that superiority you lose the title soon after, while it is not certain that would include an invasion force, you may well find yourselves worst of and being owned by the Chinese government instead

Defence and power projection is important, it fends of the vultures and keeps you safe and protects foreign interests to which your economy may rely on

It's a dog eat dog world, not much has changed

Lol

Seriously?

They're nearly all part of the European overseas territories? which comes under the West/NATO

They don't need armies they're protected, not to mention They cannot afford one considering they're all mainly tiny islands

Some of those countries in that list come under the British commonwealth and actively serve in the British army, panama for instance come under US protection, hell the US built the canal, Iceland has links to NATO

Iceland holds the annual NATO exercises entitled Northern Viking. The most recent exercises were held in 2011,[12] as well as the EOD exercise "Northern Challenge". In 1997 Iceland hosted its first Partnership for Peace (PfP) exercise, "Cooperative Safeguard", which is the only multilateral PfP exercise so far in which Russia has participated. Another major PfP exercise was hosted in 2000. Iceland has also contributed ICRU peacekeepers to SFOR, KFOR and ISAF.

Nice try at twisting and distorting but if they wasn't part of any protection programme China Russia and the West would seeking to do business with them there is not much of the world left which isn't or haven't picked a side

Prove me wrong

Costa Rica is an independent nation in South America, not part of NATO
Greneda is located in South America and was invaded by the US (of course) but still retains independence
The Marshall Islands are north of Australia but have independence
Nauru is the same as above
Mauritius is off the coast of Africa and has no affiliation to anyone else
Panama is an independent nation south of Mexico (again in spite of being invaded by the US, for no other reason than to build a canal...)
Vanuatu is in Oceania and has had aid from France and the UK but remains independent

(you are welcome to prove me wrong on these by the way, my world history isn't spot on)

Granted half of them are NATO or US protected, but half of them are not.

My point simply was, why does the US need a bigger army? Never in any of our lifetimes will China ever risk military engagement with the US.

It's just more tax money going to s**t the US doesn't need to cause more death and misery in the world.

Sounds like you're fighting a good cause my friend, and definitely for the benefit of all...

I'm more than sure those country you speak of do contribute to in some way to NATO or has affiliation with thus giving protection

Please do some reading, if your truly think there are any country's with no links to the West or Russia China et el then you truly do not understand this world or how it works or what is going on

With regards to Costa Rica

which trains with special forces of Israel, and its namesake in Spain and other democratic nations, but is not part of the main police forces. Instead it is part of the Intelligence and Security Directorate (DIS) which reports directly to the Minister of the Presidency. In case of war in Costa Rica, the United States has offered their military to use at Costa Rica's disposal.

Anyone else ?

You're just outright lying

The Marshall Islands

Now sovereign nations, the three freely associated states were formerly part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, a United Nations trusteeship administered by the United States Navy from 1947 to 1951 and by the United States Department of the Interior from 1951 to 1986 (to 1994 for Palau). Under the COFA relationship, the United States provides guaranteed financial assistance over a 15-year period administered through the Office of Insular Affairs in exchange for full international defense authority and responsibilities.

What sort of world do you think we live in?

One where there are no threats and rainbow and jelly and ice cream ?

If you're in favour of Russia and Chinese et el dominance then firstly I'd ask you to go love it there as much as you do from within the West and then support there propaganda from there

My God! Its amazing how a few people (governments).can completly
condition "its people" we should be, as a race, standing up to these
people and saying "no more!"

These "people" have not moved on from what we have been like for
hundreds of years. They are like children in a play ground wanting
the best toy and fighting over it!

Its a shame that i will not see, in my life time, a time when we are not
brainwashed to be patriotic for your country. It should be patriotic for
your planet.

As long as people have this primitive way of thinking, we will always be on the brink of ww3.

That will be a great day for humanity, the first step into the next level of sentience for the human race.

The first step would be the abolition of money, that will come on the day that people will no longer need to work, or will only do it for the betterment of all life.

Once there is no more money, then war will end.

Right…

Like it wasn’t enough scaremongering the European nations for decades against the Soviet, now it’s time to turn the Asians against Asians… How amazingly convenient!

New market for the outdated legacy military hardware is here to boost the American war machines; this is kind of old stories.

You haven't come full circle in your thoughts and thinking unfortunately

Yes the world you speak of would be nice we're just know where near it yet

But perhaps you you don't realise to make it a reality, the Second World War need to end and be resolved... And a one world government need to be implemented because divided it just won't work and our history shows this, that is a undeniable fact

For now you're just going to have to pick a side which suits you and your family the best

It's not about wanting war or being brainwashed by a government, it's about wanting the best future for our children and that for me as your probably noticed isn't human rights abusing communist rule, western civilisation is far more advanced and further along in its development

Why should America be the one to pick up the check?

Why not make Australia, New Zealand and Japan pick up the slack in pacific defense its there back yard too!

Im pretty sure Japan and Australia could field a carrier group and a few 5th gen fighter squadrons.

Nobody needs to turn the Asians against the Asians China is doing a great job at that threatening its neighbours with its expansion plans what makes you think China will be a really nice alternative to US dominance? The US isn't trying to invade Taiwan Japan South Korea they're protecting and aiding them to have the right to exist

And as for scaremongering in Europe perhaps you had forgotten Stalin and WW2

Need I bother educating you on that threat or are you saying there was never any threat ?

No offence but how is that when someone like you comes short of logic suddenly issuing the departure to the opposite side of the debate..?

For decades we European danced in American tunes left and right, being scared to death every night and day by believing the outright lies just for you Americans could sleep well at night, crack the beers, yell at your T.V watching super bowl.

Don’t you think it it’s time to LISTEN instead of usual LOUDMOUTHING..?
