It has not been used as of yet so I am not going to heavily speculate on why the Iranians are constructing the mockup.

And why not?

You know what 'speculation' means...so why would you be unwilling to speculate in a speculative thread?

Could it be that you have a morbid fear of being incorrect, even while just innocently speculating?

I thought the 'brotherhood' were made of sterner stuff?

A flight deck build over a dry dock and something else being built under cover of it.

Maybe they are building a missile ship to lunch there nukes.

I personally think it is a propaganda set piece that they will tow out into the Gulf, fire a missile (or two) at and sink for their state run television stations. Their premise will be, 'Look, we have the technology to sink an American super-carrier.

Likely tactic on their part but we do not have to engage at any close distance by vessel; aircraft and missiles can certainly handle their littoral assets.

And another of your quotes to my assertion that faked carriers MAY be used to fool an enemy..

Layout the circumstances were anyone would be duped by a fake carrier hiding another ship. Please be detailed on how it would go unnoticed until it was time to strike.

You can't have it both ways matey.

Either it's convincing for the role, as you assert above, or it's not.

So would a faked super-carrier be convincing or not, even for a slight military tactical advantage that could make all the difference in a heated and nervous pre-battle situation?

If not, how do you think it would fool a static public who are certainly not operating on split-second, life or death principles and would have the luxury of detailed examination at leisure?

One way, or the other...not both.

Here is a pic of the mock carrier before it was painted. The shadows all match.

Thank you and welcome to ATS. So the mock up is a real fake then… not a photoshop job?

"During the past two days, the Western media has made speculations about a ship being built by Iran in the southern waters. The ship which is a mock-up of a U.S aircraft carrier is part of a movie project called "Airbus" which narrates the story of Iran Air Flight 655, which was shot down by U.S navy in the Persian gulf with 290 civilians on board including 66 children, in an effort to put pressure on Iran to forget about punishing Saddam for his invasion."

Here is a non shopped version of the mock up. Its lacking those bs details.

The one thing that it's really, really, missing: water to put it in.

Um?

So if I make a facebook ID "US Military", will you quote what I say as "Source: US Military"? That would be cool, even though I have nothing to do with the US military.

Just kidding, I find the movie prop idea as plausible as any, but if I had cited that source I would have called it "facebook ID: Iran Military".

I doubt they would make it in full view of satellites, after all they do know about satellites, they have sent their own up into space

having a satellite does not guarantee you can evade other countries surveillance.

You obviously did comprehend what I wrote. No where did I say this was going to be used to 'fool anyone', it is obvious by its size and construction that it is not even a reasonable good reproduction of an American super carrier.

You can't have it both ways matey.

Either it's convincing for the role, as you assert above, or it's not.

I made it clear that it is not convincing in any way other than they can film themselves destroying it and it looks like a carrier. It will not react or perform like one but I do not think they really care.

So would a faked super-carrier be convincing or not, even for a slight military tactical advantage that could make all the difference in a heated and nervous pre-battle situation?

No, it would not. How could it possibly fool anyone with any type of military detection or surveillance systems?

If not, how do you think it would fool a static public who are certainly not operating on split-second, life or death principles and would have the luxury of detailed examination at leisure?

One way, or the other...not both.

Who said it would fool their public? It just needs to resemble one so they can use it for propaganda purposes.

uhmm....no navy leaves planes on a flight deck when it goes into dry dock, and even for routine scheduled docking, all planes are flown off even before it gets close to a dock. this isn't real, there isn't a conspiracy.

That's great..no one on this thread has claimed it is a real boat and it was pretty much established that this is apparently a mock-up for a movie or a propaganda piece.

carrier, complete with fake U.S-style airplanes, near the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

The mock supercarrier seems to have been modeled off of an American Nimitz-class (CVN 68) carrier, down to the number "68" painted on the flight deck, though its intended use remains a mystery.

Pretty Crazy... Possible mock up for propaganda? hmmm

Commercial satellite images obtained by CNN reveal that Iran is constructing a large-scale replica of a U.S. military aircraft
Why is Iran building giant mock-up of U.S. aircraft carrier?

Maybe they're building it because they're going to make an Iranian copy of the Steven Seagal Film UNDER SIEGE..."Im just the cook"...

Then I would be rooting for the Iranians to sink it and him.
