I don't make threads starting with my full knowledge of history, it would take up too much space and be OT. Yes, we know what control Ukraine was once under. That is not pertinent to this conversation and the current status of the entirety of Ukraine and the Crimea region, which is not,at this time, part of Russia.
AND Russian is not the official language. Ukranian is the official language, though Russian is a major language used, even in government, side by side with Ukranian. It would be almost the same as French in Canada or Spanish in the US.

YOU are the one needing an education.

In fact, what was you point?

Mea culpa, my point being - grow some balls yourself and start fixing your own problems and government and stop telling others what to do and stop 'helping' us and bringing 'democracy and peace'

Ukrainian people already regard Crimea as Russian (not territory but technically) and noone asked your opinion.

The US has a treaty with Ukraine which includes helping them from invasion. It is not a 'pinky swear' or wink. It is a REAL treaty.

You mean the same treaty the Russians signed?

Judging by the substance of your posts, I'm going to guess your 17 years old with a surface understanding of things. Therefore, if your not part of the conversation your part of the problem.

Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between the Russian Federation and Ukraine (Kiev, May 31, 1997)[131]
ratified by the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (March 2, 1999) Which Russia is ignoring. There have been several events of russian ships ramming Ukranian fishing boats. No, it is not the same. The US doesn't ram Ukranian fishing boats with huge ships.

1. You know the drill, we don't do that at ATS. Thank you.

2. The biggest problem is American way of thinking. We don't think of solutions like you do. We don't call NATO every time Putin farts. It's almost summer and people in Crimea are gonna lose some big tourist bucks this year, that is A PROBLEM.

I suppose you know everything, eh? Must be nice. Might want to stop regurgitating all the little talking points you read on the interwebs.

Maybe the USA wanted them to "capture" this drone. Russia took the bait.

Like they wanted Iran to capture their drone. What a strategy !

Just admit it, the US drone technology is a joke. Simple.

I can now imagine the Russians laughing at this hilarious incident.

What if this downed drone is only one of 20 flying over Crimea right now? Is it still impressive that Russia only managed to bring down one? Do you honestly think that this was the only UAV from the US flying over Crimea? We only hear about the ones they caught. What about the ones that they didn't?

Same with the Iranians. You have any idea how many UAVs/UCAVs are likely flying (and have flown) over Iran??? And we only ever hear about the one that they captured? What about the dozens that have flown and continue to fly over these areas undetected??? It's utter ignorance to think that you know exactly what is all going on. It is likely a lot more complex that you give it credit for.

As for the Iranian fiasco...the US could have easily destroyed that aircraft after the fail-safes mysteriously failed to do their job. Why didn't the US go in and destroy it? Perhaps...just perhaps the US anticipated the Iranian response; that this particular aircraft would be received by the Iranians as a "gift" of sorts...They FINALLY managed to get "one" from the evil Americans who flew their aircraft unabated over much of Iran. While receiving this "gift" (which the Americans likely viewed as a calculated loss) the Iranians finally think they've gotten some leverage over the Americans. It is in this instance that they let their arrogance get the better of them by boasting about it and making the US lose face internationally. But what if that was all apart of a "calculated loss" that the Americans had planned? Enter the "Trogan Horse".

And this is precisely where is where it gets interesting. Once the Iranians "plug" the aircraft in, it feeds them information...but what if that information is false information? Meaning, what if the information they think they're getting, is actually bogus information designed as disinformation? What if by "plugging" this UAV in, it releases a wireless Trogan virus that then compromises critical Iranian defense systems? Hard to believe?

American ignorance and arrogance? Maybe...But considering some of the things that have come to light about the US and CIA...this isn't one of the most absurd conspiracies to think up. The same is true for this drone that the Russians captured...maybe, just maybe, this drone has a bigger mission than simple minded individuals like you can comprehend.

One thing is for sure...since that particular fiasco in Iran, the US has not lost another Aircraft...and this has been a few years. The US has obviously not stopped flying over Iran. But again, we only ever hear about the ones that they find. What about the ones that get away? Maybe, just maybe the American drone technology is a lot more advanced than you give them credit for?!

Not sure this has been suggested, but thought I'd put it out there - also, I am a bit ignorant when it comes to the US/Russia tech sharing relationship...

Would it be a big no-no if the United States & Russia were found to be in collaboration on developing cutting edge war machines? Would it be a big story if it were discovered the US had been providing Russia with it's latest in technological advancements & vice-versa?

Maybe having the drone 'shot-down' or 'brought-down' is a sneaky way to transfer technology to Russia. Make it look like something else and deliver the tech with a perfect alibi. It could even be used to spin any sort of propaganda they'd like.

Was Crimea annexed yet? Would this be considered Russia territory?

well you figure it out, by yourself ... crimea has nuclear weapons, as remains since USSR ... and the only nuclear superpower, after USSR falldown is ... yes, Russia.

So, Crimea has always been Russian territory ...

This is getting to the point of no return. This is a huge statement by Russia. I am now convinced that this will continue to escalate.

Why is this a huge statement by Russia? basically, the US will deny it ... at best, and we're back at square one.

Putin has vasts interrests to ensure there ... for one, Ukraine has been acting like pirates that demand "taxes" for gas to go past their territory. And yes, those lines are russian ...

Second, those guys in Ukraine are nationalists ... since when, did we feel bad for nazis? is that something started with Mr. George Bush and Co. ?

Since when, did we start to feel good about people who yiell "Ukraine for Ukrainians ... auslander raus!" ...

Maybe you mean such attitude is OK, if the people who are being kicked out are Russian ... and it's only bad, if the ones who are being kicked out are Jewish? is that what you mean?

OH, it's liberty ... liberty for what? Liberty to take nuclear arsenal, and what ... sell it to the highest bidder in Azerbadjan? Liberty to steal Russian gas?

And what's this about WWIII? do you see any germanic people in this war, at all? Maybe you misunderstood the entire WW ... bla bla scenario. It was a war against the germanic people ... who lost, and are all but dead.

When on earth, do you think any germanic peoples will be able to rise again and make an empire big enough, for the rest of the world to want to "murder the entire race", more or less ... the third time?

Not any time soon ... so, no there is no 3'rd world war ... maybe a war is brewing, but there are wars all over the world, every day ... 24/7.

So yet again we have another fabricated story. How many stars! If Russia or 'Crimean Self Defence Forces' had captured or downed a US UAV then the images would have been spun to death on the media. Rent a mob in Crimea would have been pictured jumping up and down on it with every western journalist currently in Crimea invited to watch. Far too much of a propaganda coup not to as an example of 'NATO/US meddling'.

Based on the release of a controversial leaked telephone conversation, we are now in a position to confirm that the Kiev Maidan Independence Square February 20 sniper shootings directed against innocent civilians were ordered by opposition leaders integrated by Neo-Nazi elements.

Acknowledged in a leaked telephone conversation between EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and the Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet, the Maidan opposition rather than president Yanukovych was behind the sniper killings on February 20.

Why didn't Obama talk about "costs" to be paid by the current "government" of Ukraine for killing their own supporters / people?

The other leaked telephone call also proves the US government were involved in the overthrow of the previous elected government... you know the famous Victoria Nuland "f*** Europe". It seems the way is to deny everything until you are caught out by proof.

good on the Russians for doing this...
I hope they stop every attempt by the US to interfere with what's happening in Ukraine...Putin did well in Syria by thwarting Team America's plans for that country........

Lol

Correction

The rest of the world and the Ukrainian people themselves feel it is Russia who is interfering in Ukraine, the US was carrying out aerial surveillance on an invading army's build up and movements on the request of the worried Ukrainian government, I'm. to all that sure how it is possible to invite duly interfere, so perhaps you could explain this without using conspiracy's

Also... I'm not sure if you have noticed or not but Syria is still very much on fire, and before you get overjoyed about Russia keeping Assads minority government in power over there, the Saudis and Qatar will put a financial black hole in Russia's economy trying to keep the SOB afloat,

Assad the president of his very own hell on earth, I'm sure he's wishing he didn't take orders from Moscow now looking out the window and seeing the state of his country and his decision not to step down

The bottom line (this thread purpose anyway) is that Russia took down a drone over a country that was NOT Russian territory. In any other scenario that is a very provocative action that calls for a serious response.

I'm tired of people saying that it was Russian territory. It is NOT. It is sovereign Ukraine where US likely had permission to fly over. The vote for annexing Crimea had not happened yet.

And to the people saying that Ukrainians want to be Russian... Tell that yo the over 50,000 people who protested the aggression in Russia today.
