No more than three grams a day though....it's hepatoxic.
I've poisoned my liver with it.Twice.

One paper I read, from human trials, is that the average person can handle about 12 grams of pure Curcumin per 24 hours.

Pretty surprised to see you say the rest, as hundreds of papers are related to how it helps prevent hepatoxcitity.

Turmeric is a good thing to have in the house. There can be some side effects from using it all the time though. I think using it a couple times a week is good and if you have symptoms of some of the things it treats, by all means use it when needed. I always keep it in the house now, and use mustard on my sandwiches more often. I try to use various food chemistries to keep sickness away.

I could go way deep into this but I am just going to warn people that starting to use something like turmeric excessively all of a sudden can unbalance the body chemistry Try slowly working up the amount you use. For people with low blood pressure, be aware that turmeric does lower blood pressure as does celery and even homemade chicken soup. They all have a little different way that they do it also.

great thread ! been using Turmeric for a while now not that I have anything that needs treating(healthy as a horse thankfully), but its always good to prevent possible problems.

it is truly amazing that it can help with so many things! the first time I saw it I said to myself ''we must order turmeric, plenty of it'' especially when I saw it helps with Arthritis/OA, my mom hasn't noticed a difference yet but she hasn't exactly been taking it as she should even though I remind her all the time how good it is, we take 2 800mg capsules each day.

not trying to advertise or anything but some people asked where can they get it so I'll just put this here.

Puritan's Pride (puritan.com) I order almost everything I need from them, been using them for over a year now and their products are really good in my opinion and the prices are very reasonable with constant specials being done.

"Vitamin T" eh...

Facepalm.

Yeah, that's why none of these disorders are found in the East Indian population, cause they eat so much turmeric...

So why is India's life expectancy 10 years less (68.9 vs 78.6) than the United States?

With the amount of poverty, lack of decent infrastructure and over population. Im suprised the difference is only 10 years. Why is the United States life expectancy so low when it is considered a first world?

Twenty grams a day for three months?

I'd also managed it with pro-hormones a month before that which probably didn't help.

I still wish to insist though.

3 grams a day

Ha, I use Turneric for a very different reason - In the process of making bio-diesel out of used cooking oil, turmeric is used as an indicator when titrating the trans fatty acids - turmeric turns red at exactly the correct ph.

Great work - I have been promoting turmeric also for several years, and it is indeed a miraculous substance. I include it in my diet daily, along with a range of other things I consider to be indispensable - I consider turmeric, hemp and management of omega6/3 ratio to be the most important things you can do for your health.

I hope people are taking note.

Nobody should use something in massive doses exclusively, especially not all the time perpetually.

A week ago a friend & I got into a bit of an minor ordeal of the issue of Acai Berry. He's managed to find the best possible way to get the full powerload of the stuff, frozen online overnight, but talks as if its all that matters. And is spending a lot of money to do it, although is doing quite decent on the antioxidant-dollar conversion. BUT, just measuring the value of plant food sources based on their total antioxidant content alone proves scientifically to be deeply flawed logic. This is proven by the fact the Acai Berry has well in excess of 10X the antioxidant potential of Yellow Turmeric, yet has vastly less than 10% of the total PubMed papers published in real world anti-ailment results.

These studies: 80%+ of which has been done in the past 10 years, while probably 90%+ has been in the past 5 years. And yet despite all this science, some people still might declare that overdosing on specific highly-marketed subjects like Acai Berry is the 'only' way to go.

The scientific reality is, however, that overdosing on raw antioxidants actually feeds many cancer tumors [dont have the energy to pull up the citations just now]. With the true 'super-foods', obsessing over 1 alone would be liking OD'ing on one of the proper Vitamins while ignoring the rest f that list.

Morning,

My daily doses include:

-Multivitamin for active adult males
-Co Q10
-Acidofilus Bifidus
-Harp Seal Oil
-Trophic Iodine

And last but not least:

-Curcumin

I never start my day without 'em.
While that list will never gets any shorter, it may get longer as time goes on...

Turmeric (yellow root) is the main ingredient of all curries.

There is so much to find about this spice on the internet.
I've used it all my life, being from Indonesia. Taken alone it's not so delicious, but you can use in everything you put on the table.
A bit every day in a smoothie goes down great.
I've seen a vid where a doctor shows you how to cook half a cup with 1 cup o water, stirring constantly for about ten min. Then it will keep for one or two weeks in the fridge. You can drink it with f.i. milk (use one teaspoon). They call it golden milk.

In India it is called "longevity spice".

Buy a big bag of it and use it every day.

I made tumeric tea once. I thought, whatever it is thats going to kill me, is not as nasty at that !!

Haha but I do eat that stuff like crazy.

You obviously have a deficiency of tumeric in your beer.

I've seen this before. Next you'll be saying that the garlic in your whiskey isn't working either!

When chugging spoonfuls of turmeric-garlic paste, it doesnt even touch much of my tongue or teeth. It's important if pasting, not to make it too dry that you choke on it.

Good god so I'm not the only insane person who has actually put a teaspoon of that stuff in his mouth and then tried, in vain, to wash it down.

Fun times

i need some more tumeric...

I discovered turmeric at the same time that I discovered juicing last year. I have switched over to smoothies recently because juicing was kind of a hassle. I blend frozen berries with fresh ginger and turmeric root, sweetened with honey. It works better for my inflammatory pain than ibuprofen, plus I just feel healthier. You can't taste the turmeric at all. Bonus is I haven't gotten sick since I started doing this. I used to get one or two head colds every year, but not this past year.

Don't forget to take some piperine you people.
If I attempt to make again, turmeric a daily thing, I grind into my hand a little pile of pepper, about the area covered by a quarter.
I bought a bag of turmeric about a month ago, saw this thread and figured, 'I may as well open it up, since that is why I bought it'.
Ehhhh (pronounced meh), I will make yet another attempt at making this a regular thing, a person above has got me thinking about rice now. I am thinking curry, chicken, rice, garlic, celery, onions and whatever.
Hmmmm.
Now I need a mop for all this drool!

It's funny, the name, it could have been tumoric, but that would be counter indicative.

Funny, I havent posted in awhile and all it took was a spice and a wanting tongue!

I've been taking 34 grams a day (2 tablespoons, one in morning, one at night) for 3 years! I make my own caps with 100% organic pure tumeric, I get the caps from a health food store and I buy my tumeric bulk from Glorybee in Eugene, Oregon. In the last 6 months I also added black pepper and ginger to my caps. I began using tumeric to manage pain. I'd taken so much 800 mg ibuproben I trashed my stomach and could no longer use it. It worked, it managed the serious back pain I had as well as systemic inflammation I'd stuggled with for 10 years! A side effect was it lowered my borderline high blood pressure! Another side effect: asthma GONE! It is a blood thinner, so I had to stop it when I had surgery. It cannot be used by folks on bloodthinners.

In all my research I have not found the 3 gram limit you spoke of, or that it is hepatoxic! Can you give references? The only hepatoxic research I came across was a mouse study, it concluded that mice were tumeric sensitive! It's a goverment study!

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9782784

International Journal of Pharmacology calls tumeric protective against hepatoxicity in rats!

scialert.net/abstract/?doi=ijp.2005.252.256

The positive effects of tumeric is so overwhelming there is much too much to link to.

I feel incredible on tumeric! I am closely followed by my doctor with regular blood work. Prior to tumeric I struggled with daily pain. My CRP was off the charts for years, now it is in a tolerable range. I am still researching the cause of my inflammation, probably wheat, but I haven't been willing to part with it...tumeric gives me that choice!
