There is also the rogue pilot theory as reported in various MSM.

Perhaps he had invited passenger company or was having a party in the cockpit, decided on turning off the transponder and auto piloting / choosing his own course / knew a quicker way / made an error etc. Perhaps unlikely but again another possibility.

Part 91.205 just says a magnetic direction indicator is required.

This latest news cnn is presenting and above tend me to believe this was indeed a hijacking.

With what we now know from what I've linked before, this cockpit appears it could be easily breached. He had let woman all flight, smoked, etc. in the cockpit.

My latest theory is a hijacking. Tracking devices turned off. Other plane when trying to communicate caught the end of a struggle. I'm leaning to Uyghur terrorists like 2'weeks ago which no one claimed responsibility for and like they tried to do in June of 2012 or 2013 like posted earlier. My newest question would now be where were the 150 or so Chinese nationals on board from inside china. How it went down is still up in the air.

This guy is a geek. He even setup his own flight simulator at home. If this were true, any problem the flight encountered would have to have been outside his experience to overwhelm him. Colleagues said he knew the 777 inside out.

In any case it looks more and more like a theft/highjacking with each passing hour.

They have radar proof that the plane was flying low and hundreds of miles off course after it's last radio contact.

The question I have is, why haven't we heard demands if it's a straight up highjack?

What would Iran pay for a fairly new well maintained 777?

The commercial fleet in Iran is one of the oldest in the world.

Or is it going to be used as a bomb?

Either way they needed to go to an airport big enough to handle a heavy, and in that part of the world that means Intl airport or military base.

A big white plane with Malaysia in huge blue letters down the fuselage would be seen at a regular airport, so that leaves a military base. They couldn't just put it down on a flat stretch of land either, there would be no way to refuel.

Not to argue or anything but I would imagine the passengers giving some sort of effort into sending at least a message to the outside world. I mean there are over 200 people in that plane, it'd be hard for hijackers to monitor the activities of every one of them.

If it was indeed a hijacking, i believe it would take a trained military unit to accomplish one given the extraneous factors that you should consider in handling a jumbo jet and more than 200 people.

Hijacking not a fact, but it makes sense with the threats (and nothing to do with passports), and recent internal turmoil within certain areas in China. And that the pilot was well established, tho co pilot seemed like a cowboy and should be looked at too.

Plane turning now is a fact? By human hand they are saying. Could it make that turn otherwise?

Transponders shut off somehow, if their is no inflight break up, manually shut off must be high on the list of possible options...right?

Travels 300+ more miles a fact? More questions could arise from this one once question 1 is answered.

I also read the US said "some" have claimed responsibility while we've only heard of The Chinese Martyrs Brigade taking claim. Is some more than one? Or reference to a group/organization?

US picks up no flashes with technology. Would that technology pick up a plane hitting the water or land? Without fuel?

Could they get more info in the garbelled communications from the other plane making contact? Would that be in any voice recorder from the plane trying to make contact?

Spy tech is somewhat secret so we have to make educated guesses, but if the plane just drops out of the sky, either broken up or intact and hits the water, it leaves no unusual IR signature like an explosion would. So, that leaves the possibility of infrasound, and without knowing the sensitivity of infrasound probes in the area we don't know, but someone just posted about an infrasound specialist going to the area. I think the infrasound detection is more likely if the plane is intact when it hits the water, than if it's broken up because the smaller pieces might be traveling slower, and make less noise when they hit the water.

A plausible theory...pardon if already posted.

What if the group of hijackers took personal belongings to stop this. Would everyone not be caught off guard? Sleeping?

Why travel 300 more miles without a distress call?

Is this how you make sure there are no survivors? Search the wrong area for days?

Is that a normal flight crew in Malaysia?

Seems a little male heavy since there are only 3 crewmembers in the cockpit.

If the cabin crew was involved as well as a member of the flight crew it could explain a few things.

IF THIS WERE TRUE...

So the Malaysian military had this information all along and they just wasted everybody's time. Precious time that could have been used to comb the Malacca Straits instead of concentrating everything into the Kota Baru area.

I find this just...very very odd. What else are they not telling the public, especially the families of the passengers and crew?

What the hell are they trying to hide?

Malaysia really does have a lot to answer for. Not telling anyone of the missing jet until hours after it was missing. The backtracking of the five passengers story they told all day yesterday. Now the plane was tracked way off course and just now coming to light. There is more they know.

Reading through that, I noticed a lot of stuff that could be tampered with by use of the E/E hatch that was listed on PPRuNe as a weakpoint of the Boeing 777. If a passenger was able to release some type of gas, they could have knocked everyone out and them from the passenger area, entered an electrical room of the plane and disabled such things as communications and the cockpit door. There was also mention in the video of access to oxygen and causing depressurization.
