The crosses around town concerns me. How reliable are the sources ? Could it be marking where someone died ? Or are you thinking more marking for future reference? Dislike

I don't have any idea how reliable the sources are, but the Tartars are muslim (I believe?) so I would have my doubts they are there to memorialize the death of someone of the household. This would only leave the 'future reference' statement which I hope against hope is not the case.

Agreed. Since the Executive Order authorizes this all to be done without prior notice, I would guess that the assets they knew of were being frozen before the ink was dry on the signature.

Given they've been talking about this for a few days, I imagine it will be similar to the bank 'haircuts' in Cyprus. All the money will have been moved before they can get to it.

The article says 2 bombers is normal. The increase would be concerning only if the source is credible....

17:03: The US military is sending 12 F-16 fighter jets to Poland for a training exercise, according to Polish media reports. The Polish defence ministry has not confirmed the reports, says Reuters.
Earlier, the US Air Force announced it was sending six additional F-15 jets to Lithuania to bolster the existing "Baltic Air Police" mission there.

ETA ,, to clarify a 'nuclear bomber' is a ship that is capable of launching nuclear weapons, not necessarily a ship that ONLY carries nuclear weapons, correct? Could this be a play on words that is meant to shiver us all ? Aren't nuclear capable ships also just ship that can serve other purposes? TIA

Is it just me or are things heating up again?

It seems that way to me as well, however, I don't know if it really is or it's just my usual cool exterior being cracked by this particular series of events. When all this started I was so sure nothing would happen, it was my husband who was worried... now we've flip flopped on it. Go figure. On topic:

This seems like a rather strong statement released by Canada's PM. I live in the US close to the Canadian border and usually listen to the CBC (better reporting) during the day and this is maybe the strongest statement I've heard from him:

17:38: In further reaction, Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper says his country will not recognise any referendum held in Crimea as long as Russia maintains its "illegal military occupation" there, Reuters reports.

Sounds to me that Obama should grab his toque hat and puffy coat and go take some lessons from our friends to the north on how to talk a little tougher. I would love to hear something like this come from the US.
