It could be some NASA buff having a go with us, it could be NASA overlooked this one all together (I hear they photoshop stuff out all the time) and it could be real thing too. Don't know. Am not a photo expert.. Maybe somebody could have a better look at it

If you mean the object at centre top of the photo, it looks like your regular type of rod UFO that I've seen pictures of before. Interesting photo, do you have any other links that show where the photo originates from?

Most likely something on the lens. If you look carefully, it looks like there is a line from the one point of it.

Yeah, probably something on the lens.

Interesting...but I'd have to think if it was anything that it would have been photo shopped right out of there. So that leads me to think that it's nothing but then again...

Non this is the only one I could find.. So no other references. It does come from the marsrovers gallery.. Have no clue further as to what it could be. It even appears to have some sort of contrail behind it.. I have not a lot of time to search any further since duty calls but maybe somebody else can? marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov...

I have downloaded it to to make sure it doesn't suddenly disappear and made a screen print

It kind of looks like a missile taking off with a smoke trail. I am not a good judge though because I rarely look at this type of stuff.

Yes, I seen it posted somewhere else, grabbed it and enlarged it and I thought holly heck it looks nothing like a conventional aircraft. That's what they claim Rods look like.

Thanks for that Elq10000, I'm looking through all the images now. In the image you posted it doesn't look like a lens object, IMO it looks more like a rocket or a missile.

If you are referring to the black scratch looking thing in the sky, I'm pretty certain it's just an image processing error.

We see these all the time on the SOHO cameras, and for whatever reason regardless how well documented there errors are, they always seem to find their way to a post here with claims of aliens, space ships, killer mystery planets or something else.

This, of course, isn't SOHO, but, due the extremely weak nature of Mars's magnetic field, the bombardment of solar radiation on the surface is bound to glitch some photos every now and again.

This isn't to say that if someone really wants to believe the black mark is an alien spacecraft that they can't go on continuing with that belief.

Probability, however, is with the black mark attribution going to image processing error, or a few pixels corrupted during transmission back to Earth over the hundreds of millions of miles the data needs to be sent.

You are welcome, just hope something comes out of this. As long as it is unexplained it remains a ufo, and although it is a picture of Mars, it probably has a down to Earth explanation

I placed the pic on some other forums as well and am wondering if some sort of satisfying answer will come from it. Will let you know too if I myself learn more

This photo is from a Thirdphaseofmoon video.
Third Phase of Moon is a UFO video production group on youtube that specializes in hoaxing UFO videos and pictures with CGI.

I think this is the video (it might be a different video, but same or similar CGI model):

Anything and everything Thirdphaseofmoon is Fake.
Just google Thirdphasemoon + hoax. There's a fun interview with one of the guys by blogger Shielaaliens where she calls them out on the hoaxing.

That picture is shopped you can clearly see the smudging/background disturbance around the object.

Ok, but even if it is photo shopped, I was only using it as a reference as to what I thought it looked like and I still like the photo too.

I agree with Druscilla , it looks like a problem on the image rather than being a physical object in the sky .
Roll on Aug 5 , can't wait for the Curiosity rover to start sending postcards home

It could be, it would be logical, this is also why I placed a question mark at the end of the title. Still, until proven differently it remains an unidentified object, or smudge. Maybe we could get NASA to comment on it? Maybe somebody here as enough photo skills to figure out what it is. It is rather intruiging though since it does appear, to me anyway, to be a moving object.

But then again, I am no photo specialist
