I actually first saw the news on a breaking news banner on yahoo and i clicked it and it went to the yahoo news page (no story) i refreshed and the breaking news banner has dissapeared....strange

and yet another dot appears on the map of "un-connected events" the pacific ring of fire is alive and well.

I just posted this on the quake thread but will repeat it here. This is an EXTREMELY shallow quake for such a large one. I am hoping they change this depth...but wow. If that stands, then I am concerned this could be a similar situation to what just happened in Japan, in that it might be a foreshock to something bigger.

Hoping I am wrong, but look at where it is sitting, the size, the depth and history.

Other posters are right on that the biggest threat right now is a tsunami. Again, at that depth...huge risk. I hope I way off base here and this is the end of the event...time will tell.

I saw on cnn and weather channel that it would be about two hours atleast before a wave reached N.Z.

Aye, it's all quiet for now. Lets just hope it stays that way.

ETA: Is it my imagination or did the sea on that feed just get much rougher?
