The site already offers this in our mini-profile but most of them are blank.
If you post it on your profile page or as part of your mini-profile information, then every time you make a post you are blabbing your business to everyone who sees your avatar.
If you choose to participate in this thread, then you are letting us know who you are & what your cultural background is likely to be and that information stays on this thread.....unless they decide to make it a dot on a globe. Then your information is on this thread AND you are an anonymous dot on a globe.
Also, this thread & anyone's posts can be deleted at any time which may make those who are usually more reluctant to divulge any personal info a bit more comfortable about doing it.

I don't give out my name publicly on line, but anything else doesn't really matter. It's true, if a 3 letter agency wants your info, you'd be pretty pressed to keep it away from them. Still, there's some creeps on the internet, so I don't give out my real name outside of private messages.

Well, I've noticed many of the men on ATS seem to display a fair amount of feminine qualities, and vice versa. I'm not sure if this will continue to be the case in the near-future, but ... I've noticed that the more intelligent+intuitive an individual is, the more likely the gender roles will be blurred... so go easy on the guy.
