Iran Unveils Domestically-Built Drone

www1.voanews.com

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is hailing the country's first domestically built drone bomber. The unmanned aircraft, unveiled Sunday, is the latest in a series of Iranian announcements of military advances.
The Iranian military displayed the drone, dubbed the Karrar - or "striker" - at a ceremony attended by top officials. State media say it can carry out long-range attacks up to 1,000 kilometers carrying a 200-kilogram bomb.

So Iran has it's own automated drones now it seems.

Along with it's upcoming nuclear program it seems that there is more of a balance with the US when it comes to defensive power.

Seems President Ahmadinejad doesn't want to attack anyone - just to not sit idly by in the face of tyranny.

Interesting times for sure!

You think that drone makes Iran in balance with the US?
It has a limited range. Don't call it a drone, call it a target.

I remember the last time we got wind of the Iranian's releasing the photos of their attempted launch of some missiles they had "developed" when it turned out 2 of the missiles failed to launch and they photoshopped in successful launches.

We'll see later on if this thing can work or not, but at least they're learning to not do test runs with the media showing all of the test units at once, they're just releasing one at a time so it's anyone's guess except for those with the the capabilities.

They've had them for some time. And this one looks like a 90s US one. Iran is 30-40 years behind the US. Only makes sense they would start using things we started using 30-40 years ago.

So what this seems to be is a GPS guided bomb, or they copied a Shadow drone from anyone of the other countries around there that have them...old technology.

Yawn....nothing big

You ever notice if he isn't in the news every few months he feels the need to say something that puts him there. If you go back and look at everything that puts him in the news it is almost always some stupid one liner....

Whether it's effective to any degree remains to be seen.

The point is Iran is starting to "flex" its technological muscles. Yes, yes - it isn't the US in terms of actual might. But compared to some of the countries the US has...ahem..."liberated" in the past few decades, Iran is coming along leaps and bounds, technologically speaking.

Sure I don't like their [Iran's] policies and religious views - but they have every right to persue a personal arsenal and nuclear power for defense and deterrance like any other country can/does.

I highly doubt Iran will be the ones to "punch" first.

Could you imagine, basically a remote control aircraft(DRONE) being used as a terrorist weapon! It's just a matter of time and I think the producer of the weapon has got to be held accountable. THIS COULD BE HHHUUUGGGEEEE!!! In the wrong hands

It would be nice, if, just once the technical accomplishments of another country outside of western influence was lauded on ATS, instead of being met with sarcastic derision fuelled by unoriginal thinking bought about by media programming

Don't you think?

Except arguably Iran is not by any means "outside" of Western influence. And many of these "technological advances" have been in the past nothing more than regular modifications to existing Western technologies. Take for instance the scout helicopter they supposedly developed, turns out it's nothing more than a Jet Ranger helicopter modified for military purposes. Then they've got their missiles as I stated earlier, nothing more than modified Chinese missiles.
Ahmadinejad isn't even the real leader of Iran, he's the clown who puts on a show while the Supreme Council plays things out behind closed doors.
These systems are a part of the show he puts on for us.
I find it really hard to believe Iran is capable of much until they finally manage to overthrow the stated Supreme Council. Technology doesn't advance much when you're under the thumb of an unending dictatorship.

It is not cure for cancer, you know. It is a drone. And Iran is not third world country, it is rich in history, culture and finances. So leaving question if there are reasons to"laud" any military hardware worldwide aside, Iran launching satellites and rocket with animals to space - is important and deserves a credit.
Iran launching a drone though????

Already posted HERE but none-the-less a good topic to discuss. The question is will we use this new weapon to justify going to war with them.
